i have seen people leave comments over and over and over telling other moms to use vicks rub on their young children and babies...



it is NOT safe!!!! it has recently (jan 09) been found that using vicks rub on babies/young kids backs/chests/feet has been shown to increase mucous production and can lead in to severe respiratory distress and even death in a few cases.



using this is an "old wives tale" from generations past when people didnt really know better!! we have the research and facts now, so check it out!



be safe and always always always look into something before you use it on your young ones!! especially something meant for adult use only!!! better be safe than sorry!



and im sure, some will say " i always use it, it works great, and my doc said ok blah blah blah"

.....in some cases though, it hasnt always been "ok", and sometimes docs arent quite so up to date!



just becareful! :) i dont want any moms to have to go through an ordeal like that!

Vicks has a vapor rub for babies.  As with anything you should be careful.

yes, but the one i see over and over is vicks. only vicks i have seen mentioned! thats the one to really  be careful about! and good info about the oils, very true as well!!

I agree that vicks vapor rub is meant for adults anyway and should not be used on children under 12 but Karvol does a vapour rub thats no where near as strong, it's pretty weak to be honest but if a kid is seriously suffering it's better than nothing and it is designed with small kids in mind.  As for essential oils you need to be very careful using these around kids as well as many can be harmful if you do not know what you are doing.
