Is the water breaking a little drizzle or does it always have to be a big gush? Also does it ever have any blood in it?

my water broke with my daughter in the middle of the night and it was just a little bit. i woke up in the middle of the night and there was a wet spot on the bed a size of a half dollar and i had no pain or blood with it. my hubby thought i just peed the bed but went in anyways and it was my water that broke.

When my water broke with my first daughter, it wasn't a huge gush like everyone is talking about. I sat down at work at the computer, and when I got up, the chair was slightly wet. Then with every sit/stand I did after that I noticed a little squirt of fluid. Nothing huge @ all. I called my Dr and went in to get checked. When I went to scoot down the exam table to have my cervix checked, I left a streak of fluid. My Dr said that DEFINITELY my water had ruptured or something because it wouldn't stop. It was a super slow leak, but could have easily been mistaken for peeing or something else. So, mine was a slow leak. My amniotic fluid levels dropped from a healthy 10 to a 7 - and so they induced me at 36 weeks pregnant. Don't let ANYONE tell you that is HAS To be a gush! It doesn't Have to be! Always go to the Dr/ER if you have ANY question. Prolonged ruptured and tears can lead to terrible infections with complications! IF you're ever unsure- just go!

I rolled over in bed and all of a sudden I felt a warm gush, I knew right away what happened. My sister told me that hers started as a drizzle, but when it got heavier there was blood in it. Both of us had normal births, problem free. So I guess it just depends on the woman and the baby.

[deleted account]

it can be a drizzle, you can tell if it amniotic fluid by trying to stop the flow like like you would try stopping your pee mid stream, if you cant stop it it is most likely amniotic fluid,if you are seeing blood it may be what they call bloody show, it just means you labor has or will start soon.

the best way i can describe it is, if you have ever been swimming adn you get out of the water, sometimes water has gotten inside teh vagina, and when it comes out, thats basically the same feeling, but it could be alot more water depending on the situation. Trust me, you'll know when it happens. Blood is ok, and happens often, as long as ther eisnt too much you should be fine

I HAD A LITTLE GUSH.. AND IT HAD BLOOD IN IT.. I CALLED MY DOC AND SHE SAID IT WAS PROBABLY NOTHING AND IF IT HAPPENDS AGAIN FOR ME TO CALL HER BACK... WHEN I WAS INDUCED THE NEXT DAY I HAD TO BE PUT ON ANTIBOITICS AND THE BABY AND I HAD A MILLION TESTS DONE TO US TO ENSURE MY DAUGHTER DIDNT GET AN INFECTION... EVERY THING WAS FINE... BUT YES U CAN HAVE BLOOD IN UR WATER.

my water has had to be broken with all 4 of my children and it was a warm gush of fluid. during my first pregnancy though, my labor was rather long and I really thought I kept peeing on myself every time I had a contraction. I don't know if their was any bloody show or not. most likely there will be some because of everything that is going on down there in preperation for the baby's delivery. I think if you are standing up though and your water breaks its probably only going to be a small trickle because the baby's head is going to be blocking the birth canal.

at the beginning for me it was a few trickles over a period of time, but then i knew my water had really broken after it was more of a gush. i didn't see any blood when my waters broke, but i did just prior, i believe this was 'a show'

i was being induced and a few hrs of being on pitocin my water broke.. I didn't know what it was but it felt like i peed on myself.. and i was just like omg.. i think i really just peed, but i didn't even feel it coming, it wasn't a big gush though, it was like a heavy drizzle, and a few miunutes later it happened again so i got up to go to the toilet and it came out more when i stood up, and mine did have a little bit of blood in it.

lol this is a bit gross, but when my water broke, i had the biggest contraction (longest & hardest, but not necessarily the most painful) then right after it was like a big gush of stuff that looked like (sorry) half cooked egg yolk.... all over the sidewalk (i was walking around the hospital in my nightgown trying to induce labour) then it just didn't stop. (so embarrassing standing on the elevator going back up to the baby wing) lol it all seems so funny now, but mortifying at the time... oh, i remember the "popping" feeling too, like someone broke a waterballoon inside me.... unfortunately, it was 7.5hrs later that my little bundle was born (they finally gave up for a c-section)

My water broke right in the middle of a pretty painfull contraction, and it came out in a huge, warm gush. It was such an odd feeling. Luckily I had just sat down in the hospital bed, and there were absorbent pads under me. There was a little blood from the mucus plug, and also a bit of meconium; which kinda freaked me out (even tho every thing turned out fine). The contractions got much more intense after that, and after they checked, I was ready to push! It all happened so fast!

Both times for me it happened when I went to go to bed. As soon as I stood up it was like i poured a jug of water on the floor and it lasted for a few minutes. Every time I moved around a little more would come out. Right after it broke the pain began with contractions every few minutes.

[deleted account]

I was laying in bed when I felt like a big bubble had popped in my belly. Nothing came out right away but I thought that maybe my water had broken so I got out of bed and as soon as I stood up I felt like I had to pee. I ran to the toilet and a bunch of clear liquid came out but I knew it wasn't pee because I had just gone. Form that point on every time I had a contraction a fairly big gush would come out. Also as soon as my water broke my contractions got really intense.

You can get prolonged water breaking but it would be a consistent stream, like when your peeing on the toilet but not so much force, it can also contain blood if the mucus plug has not completely removed itself. This is my understanding, I had to have mine broken by the midwife so I don't know for sure, this is just based on bits and pieces I have been told by the midwives.

I also was worried about this when i was near due and was always a bit nervous leaving the house in the last two weeks in case it happened in the middle of a crowded shopping centre! but luckily my membranes ruptured during labour (while i vomitted how lovely!!) apparently i blasted some of my membranes out with some amniotic fluid so it felt like a big bubble then popped and trickled continuously until my baby boy was born :)

I had a little dribble to start things off and wasn't even sure that's what it was. Then they broke it for me right before I started pushing and it was an enormous gush. We're all different. I do think I remember that it was a thicker fluid than urine would be though.

with my first one I lost it slowy over a period of three weeks. I would feel damp down there but that would be all. When I had him I had no amniotic fluid left. with my second it was a gush.

My water broke while I was sleeping, I woke up with a sudden urge like I had to pee, but as soon as I stood up out of bed there was a gush. After that there was just a steady trickle, when I moved or bended there was another small gush. It was clear, and should be clear. If or when your water breaks, its important to know the time, the color of it, if there was an odor and the amount, your doctor should ask you those things.

after my water broke i waited for like an hour and a half before i went to the dr... i knew the contractions had to get worse first... then after i got to the hospital i was in labor for 10 more hours and then i did 2 hours of pushing and then my son was born just as they were getting breakfast ready for people who were up at 6:30 in the morning... the nurse came in the delivery room and gave me my breakfast before we went to my room. I was breastfeeding my son and eating cereal at the same time... see was in shock and amazement that i could do that as he was my first child and i wasnt nervous about anything..lol

i had always thought that too and been told that you cant stop your amniotic fluid like you can pee but i did when my water broke... it had felt like i was about to pee my pants and i clentched my vaginal area really tight and wobbled to the bathroom and sure enough my water broke.. of course after that first little bit i couldnt control it anymore.. but the first gush i could... lol... its different for everyone.

Sometimes it has blood in it.. mine didnt have blood in it until i got to the hospital for delivery but everyones is different.

When my water broke with my first, it seemed like a constant flow of pee, but I couldn't stop it. There was no blood in it, just amniotic fluid. I knew right away what it was, and stuffed a towel between my legs to absorb the fluids. My friend drove me to the hospital and a few hours later, my son was born.

I was at work and I kept feeling like I was peeing on myself, then when I got home I realized that after peeing like 5 times, that is was actually my water breaking. It was a very slow dribble. So we went to the hospital, and sure enough it was my water, and since I was not having any contractions, I still had to be induced. After a few hours the water that was dribbling from me turned reddish and I called the nurse in a panic, but she informed me that it was normal. She said this happens as your cervix is stretching out, and the blood vessels in it can break causing the reddish fluid.

It can be either or both. And sometimes it could have a little blood but should be mostly clear. If it is green or cloudy you should be sure to tell your doctor because there could be maconium in the water and the baby could asperate it and have lung problems. No biggie though they just suck the babys mouth out before it takes its first breath.

My water was a big gush as well. I woke my fiance up and told him that I thought my water had broke. To me it was the grossest thing, haha. I called the health nurse and he told me to go to the hospital. I was 36 weeks. When I got to the hospitall they did a test to see if it had broke and it came back negative. 10 minutes later I was fully dialated and ready to go. Of course I was right and it was my water that had broke when the doctor went to rupture them and he told the nurse she did the test wrong and my water had broke. My son was born 5 hours later, happy healthy and screaming.

They had to break my water at the hospital so I'm not sure. But don't worry about being embarassed or anything like that... I would say that if your water breaks in public, you will have way more to think about than wether or not people think you just peed on yourself.

Yes, it can just drizzle a bit. . .and a small amount of blood may also be present. (Call your Dr. ASAP if it is a lot of blood.) You can call your Dr. and see if he/she wants you to go get checked out at the hospital. . .or just wait a bit and see if some contractions start happening. Good luck!

[deleted account]

For me I felt a pop in my stomach like a big gas bubble popped. I stood up to go to the bathroom because I thought that may have been what it was. It was a flow of fluid. After it breaks, it doesn't stop leaking. My mom ended up giving me one of the baby's diapers to put in my underwear like a pad so I wasn't leaking all over myself. Mine was clear until my 2nd to last check at the hospital and then there was a little bit of blood.

when my water broke i was standing in the kitchen getting a bottle for my older son. i felt like i had to pee really bad then all of a sudden i felt a gush down my leg. my pj pants and underwear were soaked plus there was a puddle on the kitchen floor...lol. i wasnt sure if it was my water because i had no pains and no more came out after that. i ended up phoning the hospital an hr and 15 mins after it happened and they told me to come in just to make sure. sure enough a little bit of my water had broken. there was still a big sac of it that they had to break at the hospital. they were going to send me home and let the labour come on it its own but my blood pressure was high so i had to stay. i was told that a lot of the time your labour wont start til 24 hrs after your water has broken.

When my water broke with my 21 month-old it was a big gush with constant drippling afterwards (all the way to the hospital). It scared the living daylights out of me too! It was 4 weeks early and I got up at 6 am to go pee and whoosh! gross! :P

My water didn't break with my 5 month-old. I knew to go to the hospital because the contracts were so intense and I was in major back labor. They broke my water for me right before my daughter was born. I didn't even feel it though!
