I have a 5 year old that has a had a pillow since he moved into a twin size bed and that was around age 2, although it usually ends up on the floor. However, my 18 month old has had a pillow for about 3 weeks now. He came down with a cold and wasn't sleeping at all because he couldn't breathe, so we gave him a full size but quite flat pillow and that seems to have done the trick.

My older 3 didn't have pillows until they moved into their bigger beds, not toddler, more like a twin size, so they were around 3 or 4. My youngest, however, had a Boppy from the day she was born. She moved around alot if you laid her down. We figured out if she wasn't being held, she wasn't comfy (head supported higher than her body). So, we used the Boppy to prop her up on. She started sleeping through the night at 3 months old, which is when we started this. She also slept with me many a night while my hubby was deployed to Iraq, and she would wiggle up onto his pillows, so I just started letting her sleep on them. I never put anything but a Boppy in her crib or playpen because I didn't see her being able to roll away from them as easy there...Hope that helps!

My son had a pillow from 6months he refused to sleep lying down, try her with a breathe easy pillow from mothercare.

my son has had a pillow for ages, I waited untill he could safely roll around (front to back and back again) but he would have probably been about 7 or 8 months old and he has had one ever since, I don't think he would sleep without it now.

Another poster just reminded me of a friend's child - he was a terrible sleeper until they noticed he would sleep outside of his own bed with his head on a pillow. So they gave him a pillow and his sleeping improved out of sight. Doubt it would work with all kids, but hey, just goes to show there is no rule that suits everyone. They did buy him a "kids pillow" though, which was quite small and thin.

My son is 15 months and he has had a pillow since 5 months old. He refused to go to sleep without one. It has never hurt him.

Hey, I'm pretty sure I've read not to give them a pillow until they're 3... That said, we've given both my older 2 pillows when they moved to a "big bed" before 2 years, but made sure they were very thin - and they still often don't sleep on them!

We didnt give my daughter a pillow til her 2nd bday when we moved her to a toddler bed. And we did it more for looks since she still ends up pushing it onto the floor most nights since she moves around so much lol
