This isn't so much a reply as it is an addition to the question. I am currently sitting at 3-4cm and 30-40% effaced and have been this way for almost 2 weeks. The baby was initially stuck and so every time she tried to move it was causing contractions. She has since become unstuck and is right there in position. 98% of the time I can literally feel her on my cervix. I started taking EPO about 3 days ago and have a DR appt tomorrow morning to see how things are going. I'm just now 36weeks. Any momma's experience something similar and have the EPO help stir things?

I walked for four hours at the mall and then had sex. and my baby was born the next morning. I was in labor the same night. and he was a week and a half early. If it is your first thought it usually takes longer.

I remember my friend was week over her delivery date and everything was fine and when she went to her Dr's he actually said to go have sex with your husband but if you are a single mother then walk and ride on a bumpy ride like the cross over the railroad tracks but you know what the baby is going to come when he or she is ready. My daughter was 2 days over due and she came out fine. Actually i drank castol oil but it didn't work at all. it made me sick.

I started walking about a week before I was due and then I also did have sex. The sex helps inducing labor naturally and if your husband ejaculates inside it helps even better.

I am not quite over due yet...but i asked my midwife, if there was anything that she would suggest, to speed up the process a little bit. She does not induce, so she recommended that i use something called "Evening Primrose Oil". It is nothing like Castor Oil....I researched it, before i used it...and here is what i found...
Evening primrose oil is a commonly used method of naturally preparing the body for labor. It does not directly induce labor, as commonly believed. Evening primrose oil acts as a prostaglandin, which ripens and softens the cervix. The ripening of the cervix can help the baby’s head engage deeper into the pelvis, which can help with dilation. Ripening the cervix can cause some of the contractions that start labor. Sometimes, though, these contractions are simply Braxton-Hicks contractions, which help prepare the body for labor, but do not mean you are in active labor yet. Ripening the cervix can help trigger the onset of labor, but it is unlikely that evening primrose oil will bring on labor in a woman whose body is not otherwise ready. Even if you end up having to induce labor, using evening primrose oil in the days and weeks prior to induction can still be beneficial. When the cervix has been ripened and softened, induction has a much higher rate of being successful. The ripening of the cervix may even aid in making labor faster and easier.
And even after using this before labor begins, it can be used for after the labor, so that your moods are stabilized. It is generally used for PMS and mood swings. I just took it (orally) for the first time, last night..we will see what happens!!!

well i tried everything recommended for inducing labor naturally from fresh pinapple and pineapple juice ( had to be fresh), walking, nipple stimulation(in a warm shower), walking, going up and down stairs, sex (the semen contains prostaglandins that ripen your cerivx),birthing ball, jumping jacks, jalepenos, any kind of extremely spicy food will work ( basically your trying to stimulate your bowels, which in turn stimulate your uterus.), citrate of magnesia, do not try castor oil..very dangerous for the baby. but basically i tried everything. the day i went into labor, i had went for a very short walk and came home and started having dull lower back pain but it wasnt that bad at all..23 hours later i was holding my baby girl!

Sex didnt work for me, but it works for many...I walked for 3mi outside with our dog at 38wks and I went into labor the next day! I think the tugging from my dog did it, but my friend was 38wks and we went on a 5mi walk...she popped the next day too!

I was a week late and just wanted to have my daughter, I tried EVERYTHING! Spicy foods, castor oil, sex, walks, blue and black cohosh, massage......just about everything that you have heard of for inducing labor naturally but nothing worked. I was admitted to the hospital and my doctor induced me. It was horrible! My suggestion is that you just wait it out and let it come naturally.

All these suggestions are just little ways to get our hopes up! I think the baby is going to come when it wants to. It's all just a coincidence that labor began while someone was walking or during dinner at a mexican restaurant or right after sex. Although I have heard something in the semen helps soften the cervix. But if any of these actually worked I would have a baby right now instead of being really uncomfortable and planning my next walk to get spicy food and then figuring out what to do with my son so my husband and I can have sex. Good Luck!!

walking is supposed to be great. I've started doing 20 minute walks around the block. Tried the sex thing, hasn't worked for us as yet although (TMI coming people) my fiance and I had sex last night and the mucous plug has appeared today (or so we think as it's accompanied by some not nice pains!). I found eating curries just gave me bad reflux and i couldn't sleep for a few days afterwards!

I read on another site that walking up a hill helped a woman go into labor.I have never tried it, and don't know anyone personally who have. But my mother went into labor with my oldest sister right after her and my father had sex.My Doctor also told me since I'm 40 wks pregnant to let my fiance stimulate my nipples it could bring the contractions on (if you think about it it makes sense because once you breastfeed your baby your muscles contract to bring it back to size) and to have sex.My Doctor said my fiance's semen will soften the cervix. So good luck to you and hopefully our little ones will be here ; ))

Evening primrose oil capsules you insert two at night internally, softens your cervix and can bring labour on. But only from 36 weeks. Did this with my first son within 4 days he was born and had an easy birth.

Sometime nothign works but if you are over due go see your OB doctor they may be able to do membrane stripping which only takes a few seconds works then go for a jog being careful to listen to your body then very hot shower water running on your nipples while you or someone stimulates the nipples.

We tried everything, sex, spicy food, walking, everything, there is this bakery that sells labor inducing cream cheese and it's said to work but I wasn't that desperate. My mom said she ate spaghetti and had both me and my brother the next day. I had spaghetti and my water broke the next morning...

Brandi,
I highly suggest using evening primrose oil. I put a very caspules inside and ingested a few too. I went into labor a few days later and the nurse who was checking me said my cervix was so soft she could stretch it further. I believe it also helped me not to tear as much. My son was born sunny side up. You can also try to pump on one side wait 10minutes and then the other.

Okay when i was two weeks overdue and going CRAZY here are some things i was told would help... Rasberry leaf tea is a very popular one, you can get it from your local health food shop. Also walking, sex are supposed to help.

Hi, I am a labor and delivery nurse and I will tell you exactly what you need to know...I see this ALL the time. NONE of the old wives tales will work. you can try them, and they may coincedentally work, but all in all, you cannot make yourself go into labor until your body is ready. if you have made it to 39 weeks, you can try nipple stimulation and sex, which stimulates the release of oxytocin( the hormone that starts labor) and the sex irritates the cervix and uterus wich may jumpstart contractions, though it is unlikely. if you are really desperate, talk to your doctor about inducing you, however, if you don't have a "favorable" cervix, the induction will likely fail and you may have to have a c-section. If your uterus is "favorable" you could be looking at a 3-4 day long induction, during wich time you are strapped to monitors, can't walk freely, and can only have clear liquids to eat/drink. my advice for your comfort is to wait on your body to kick in and follow your doctor's advice. good luck!

Homeopathic Black and Blue cohosh, but you need to look up the doses AND it needs to be AT LEAST your due date. Only works if your baby is ready. Worked for me, went into labor on my due date and had her the next morning :) easy, 11 hour all natural labor and birth :) gooood luck

Hot baths, long walks, pregnant yoga, sex, enema, hot ginger tea first thing in the morning, going up the stairs, pumping your breasts...all these things will only work if your body and your baby are ready for labor. Usually you can start trying these at 38 weeks with authorization of our doctor, if you are over 42 weeks some oxitocin could help.

-SEX. Without a condom. Male semen softens and "ripens" the cervix, and that helps get the labor process going.
-Walking
-Swinging
-Spicy food (I haven't tried it, but some moms I know swear by it)
-Climbing stairs (can start contractions but the motion also helps the baby move into the right position to come out)

I am not sure if this is appropriate but semen from the father works wonders! So sex, it worked with both of mine! Um I also know that long walks expecially up and down hills works wonders! That's how my friend got her labor started! Good luck!!!

Sex... orgasm! Lots of walking... workout safely! I have heard of oils and tea's however was told how unsafe the practice was... I am terrified of scary movies, but that sent me right into labor for my daughter! LOL Also ask your doctor about stripping your membrains, it's a bit uncomfortable but helps.
