I started my son on heinz farleys but after a couple of weeks I found it didn't agree with him, so I asked a few friends for suggestions and they said cow and gate. I started with the hungry babies because he has been a very hunger baby from birth ( I tried breast feeding but he never got enough milk) I've found that cow and gate is good for him, he's now 11 months and on the follow on milk and goodnight milk (which works wonders but is from 6 months+) You can always ask the midwives advice and if the formula you try isn't good enough then there's no harm in trying another. Hope that's some help

We had to use a soy based formula because out daughter is alergic to dairy. Don;t worry the nurses will all help you figure it all out!!

I use Enfamil because that is what the pediatrician recommended.

I use Similac for my son and it works great. Also, there's a special kind for nighttime feeding so they stay full longer during the night. I don't know if there is Similac in your area, but I also like Enfamil. The hospital should have suggestions for you also. Good luck! :)

just seen your profile and your from england so i don't think the formulas which the other ladies posted would be of much use to you... as obviously we have different brands of formula here; cow and gate, aptamil, heinz farleys, hipp organic, sma.

i think your best bet would be to try and choose a formula thats available in most shops; ie not many places sell hipp organic.

my son started off on cow and gate but i ended up changing him to the hungrier version at 3weeks old because it wasn't satisfying (sp?) him, however he's ALWAYS had problems with bringing up his wind (even now at 15months) so we changed him to aptamil as it was easier on his tummy .. we then changed to aptamil comfort (used to be easy digest) at 4months on advice of hv due to his spit up and wind troubles.
so as the others have said be prepared that you may have to change the formula as it isn't just one type of formula suits all!
and as kathy said about the formulas being the same .. this is exactly what my hv said .. shew said there is no need to change to a 6month + weaning formula as it only contains things such as more iron .. which they should be getting from food anyway.my little boy stayed on the comfort till 11.5months old when we changed him onto aptamil growing up milk .. he's now on cows milk.

well there is S2S, which is a popular brand, but we are using Neslie NAN, the powder is much finer, which means it dissolves better when you shake it. Also while we are on the subject on formulas, i was at mothers group last year and the health nurse told us that when you get a tin of formula, it has stage one, stage 2 etc.. its just money making. If your baby is happy with whatever formula he or she is having, best to stick with that type of formula. I have to agree on that.

Hi Hannah. The hospital where I had my son started him off on Karicare Gold. When he 6 weeks, we had to switch over to a different formula - Nan (its lighter than the karicare) because he had colic, which was then too light for him, so he had to have a heavier formula s-26 AR for reflux. So he is now on both alternated through out the day.

I think all formulas are good for their purpose, when the aim is to get your bub to eat. You may have to change at some stage because it might not be meeting your bubs needs. All babies are different so its really hard to say.
