What birth control do you use?

After I had Aubrey I had decided to get Mirena put in. Since then I have been having a lot of headaches and some back cramping. Then I looked online and a lot of other women have complained of the same symptoms. I am looking to get my Mirena taken out and get on a new form of birth control so I was wondering what you chose and how it works for you.

I am on Seasonique. I get my period once every three months, and you see it less days. You'll see spotting in first few months but it stops

I would choose Nuva Ring. It has worked wonders for me. I have been on it for 3 years now and it is very easy to remember only once a month. With a child you dont have time to remember a pill everyday. I hope that you will at least try it. And good luck at whatever you decide.

I have heard of numerous women having complications from Mirena. BC pills (low dose) have always worked ok with me but even the low dose usually make me sick so my husband and I use condoms and that has always worked for us :)

I decided to have the Implanon when I found out it would be very risky for me to use Mirena since my uterus became titled during my pregnancy last summer. Its a little wire like piece that they insert under a layer of skin on the inner part of the upper arm, either arm is fine. I love it. Just like the Mirena, with out the mild after effects of it.

I have an implanon which is the rod that goes into the arm and stays there for 3 years. I think its like 98% effective. Some women get constant periods with them but I've only had one and I was having it when I got it put in. I think I've had it for 4 weeks now.

I used to be on the pill but I always forgot to take them and thats how I ended up with my Lillie, but yeah I think the implanon's good. My friends had hers in for 2 years and she's only had 2 periods and lost weight. Ive lost weight as well but I'm not sure if thats because I'm still working of teh pregnancu fat I gained.

But who knows everything works different for everyone.

We are using the calendar method. My ob-gynecologist didn't gave me any contraceptives to take because she said it may be difficult for me to give birth again when I use anything due to my asthma. We've been practicing this method for 5 years now and for us it's the most natural and effective way of BC.

the nueva ring works the best for me i used to be on ortho tri low and it made me crazy as hell. each weeks worth of pills has more hormones and then the last week theres none so it like builds up and then u crash. with the ring its constant, u can have periods every other mnth and i dont forget to take it.

I have used the Merena for a total of 4 1/2 yrs, had it taken out inbetween 2 pregnancy's & have always loved it. Right around my period I do have sharp back pains, but that can be really normal even without it. I LOVE being TOTALLY carefree & not having to ever worry about taking b.c. I did do the nuva ring for years & if you're not into the idea of an IUD I really liked that as well!!

I got the Mirena IUD put in too, and for me, it's wonderful!I I don't get a period anymore, and it tapered off rather quickly; within the first few months. The only issue I had when I first got it, was the first month or two, I spotted almost every day, hardly anything, but still annoying. But then it stopped, and so far, so good!

I was on Ortho-tricyclen-Lo until it caused me to have a psuedotumor on my brain. I had been taking the pills on and off for 8 yrs. and would have continued with them but the dr said that I couldn't take them anymore. The pills cause me to go temporary blind, so make sure you know all the side effects to whichever birth control you use. I now have the mirena, have had it for a yr and have had no problem with it. So much easier then remembering the pill. I have heard the bad things about it, but you have to weigh them out. Sorry the mirena didn't work for you.

Also i find this is the best choice for me because i never remember to take pills,. and also when i did the depo shot i was the biggest biatch

I agree with the ortho tricyclin. I have been using birth control over 10yrs now and I have found that the best for you is the pill even though its hard to remember I have set a 9pm time everyday.

I have mirena also. I haven't had any problems with it except mild discomfort the first couple of days after I had it put in. I chose it because I can't remember a daily pill and I'm not a fan of condoms. I also love that it makes my period all but disappear. I'm one of those people that had week long periods so I'm loving it now! Plus I already have two children and my last one was a huge surprise. I can't afford to be surprised again. It's nice to know I don't really have to worry about that now.

I haven't had sex in a really long time, but I am on birth control pills because I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and my period's been bouncing all over the place for the last 4 1/2 years since I had my daughter. I'm a 30 year old divorcee without a boyfriend or even prospects.

I have a little bleeding in the last month sometimes. I love it and it is the best birth control I ever took!! Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Right after I had my son last year, I was on the depo shot until I started having mood swings and my significant other was claiming I would snap at him for no reason plus I started getting depressed all the time, I think it was because of the hormones in the shot. I recently chose to have the Mirena, I just got it a few days ago, and so far so good, we'll see how it goes since my OB/GYN informed me that instead of the shot which all the hormones runs through your blood stream the Mirena only has hormones going to your uterus. You really have to talk with your doctor to see what is the best choice for you!

Hi, I was on the pill for 9 years. I went from one to the other because I would have really bad headaches. I liked Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo because I didn't have headaches. When I was ready to have a baby, it took me two years because the pill messed my cycle up so bad. I had to go on Clomid just to ovulate. I had my baby and six weeks later got Mirena. I love it. I don't have to worry about it and I think migration into the uterus is kind of rare. Think about Ortho-Tri-Cylcen Lo if you want to go on the pill.

If your breastfeeding the best way to go is the Mini pill. It has no hormones (I'd say after a baby we all have enough of thos surging through our bodies) and for me so far so good. I really suggest talking to a your doctor or even your babies doctor.

I also had the mirena and had the very symptoms you are having..my advice would be to get it out as soon as you can...my was misplaced and was not all the way in so I could have gotten pregnant...so get it out as soon as you can hun.....I was on the birth control patch you change it weekly so you were a patch for 3 weeks then the 4th week no patch...I had no issues with the patch..you can swim with it,it will not come off until you take it off...and you can put it in places people do not see...

I just started on seasonique... only been on it for a week but so far, so good. my period stopped the day I started taking it (pretty sweet if you ask me)... I was on femcomFE before (the chewable pill) and had no problems. I was on depo provera (the shot) before, had lots of problems on that... weight gain, depression, loss of sex drive, breast tenderness, and the worst headaches I've ever experiences (I don't get headaches often but had them all the time on the shot).

But remeber everyone's body reacts differently to medication.

I have Mirena and I had it put in when my son was 6 weeks old and he is now a few days away from turning 6 months old. I had spotting for the first two months and then two very light periods and after that I have had no period at all! Scared me at first but I took several pregnancy tests and they were all negative. So far no complaints with the Mirena, I have had no side effects besides the spotting during the first two months of having it. I'm really sorry that Mirena didn't work out for you, everyone's body is different so I hope you find something that works out for you soon!

I have mirena I just love it, it's the 5 year plan, but you can have then take it out at anytime just in case you want another child. I haven't had a full period, and i have no craps either. After 6 months you will not have any period at all.

ps if you go down the depo injection rooute it can take at least a year for you cycle to return to normal so id you want a baby yu may have to wait a while apparently your fertility rturns to normal as soon as the implanon is removed from the arm

I started on the pill but i got pregnant. after i had my daughter i went into the Depo Provera injection it worked okay i got an injection into the hip vey 3 months (12 weeks). the familyplanning clinic then decided to take me off this as i was unable to loose any weight hadnt gained any but hadnt lost any from i had my daughter. they have now put implanon in its an implant injected into the arm. (stays in for 3 years) it is 0.1% more effective than sterilization. thankfully i've been fine with it i have slowly started to lose weight etc i have no periods and i dont have to worry bout contraception for another 2 and a halfyears but some people have had realy bad side effects eg acne weight, bleeding heavily for months and 1c you have it in they're reluctant to take it out again. although i think if you are bleeding badly they put you onto pill along with it to control the cycle but thats alot of hormones !! lol hope this helps

i decided to try the implanon rod and got it put in 11 days after my son was born. so far it has worked great except the weight thing lol. the good thing i found is that i only get my period every five months but unfortunatly it lasts for 7 days :( i guess there are some minor set backs but every contraceptive device is different

I have only used birth control briefly, but when I was on it, I was on the patch, although I wouldn't recommend it. I ended up getting off of it after a month because I bled for 3 weeks straight!! I really don't feel that any birth control is safe! I have heard of pretty bad side effects with pretty much any of them!! Good luck!!

I am on the deprovera needle. One needle every 3 months is great. Like anything there is side affects but if there wasnt it wouldnt work. You dont forget about the needle like you do with the pill. I recommend it.

My sister-in-law had the implant and it has been proven to her that is the reason why she cannot have children.

Everyone has their own opinion though I guess.

Thanks once again for all the comments and encouragement.
For the women out there who do have Mirena I AM NOT TRYING TO SCARE YOU! It seems after my experience and what I have read online and heard from other women that it is a very 50/50 birth control (like most of them probably are). Either you love it or hate it.
Just to clear up any confusion...I got my Mirena put in around 8 weeks after I had my daughter Aubrey. She is now just over 18 months so I have given Mirena a fair shot. I have had it almost a year and a half.
STARDUST---to answer your question I just want to start out by saying I feel your pain. I feel like I have 3 or more periods a month, which for me I would rather just go back to my natural once a month period. Sometimes I get really bad cramping before and after my usual period along with bleeding. The bleeding isn't very heavy, but enough to have to use something. I did talk to my ObGyn about it and he said as long as it wasn't heavy he didn't consider is to be a serious problem. But at the same time the first six months passed long ago so I would think that irregular bleeding should have too.
Also my migraines still continue. Somedays I feel like I take one tylenol after another. I have also had back cramping which is even worse because it seems like no matter what I take it doesn't go away for an hour or so. It's not an everday thing...but enough to notice. I also have a close friend that had her Mirena get embedded into her uterus. I am not one to complain or jump to conclusions but when I hear of other women having the same symptoms and experiences it really makes me think that it is definitely the Mirena.
To the women that have Mirena and love it I say good for you. I wish it worked that way for me. It was what I planned on but it just didn't turn out that way. Nobody can know what works for you better than yourself. So trust in yourself and if it works stick with it.
As for me after the problems I've experienced with my Mirena I have decided to have mine taken out. I think it is the best decision for me. I am hoping to start taking the Tri-Sprintec birth control pills afterwards. I am going to talk to my ObGyn about it when I get my Mirena taken out. Hope my experience can help someone else out there.
P.S. REBECCA...thank you so much I love Aubrey's name too. It was the one and only name I ever fell in love with. And it was also the only name I ever picked out. It sure is a good thing I had a little girl!

I had the Mirena in and I had it removed because i got a lot of infections that i had never had before and the doctor told me to have it removed or it could grow into my uterus. I am on the pills right now.
