maybe try and give him bananas, as they are very binding. what i did with my boys when they were small was mix some of the bananas with their formula and give it to them in their bottle. but be warned, this makes the formula thicker and it wont fit throught the hole in the nipple easily, so you may have to open the hole a little wider. ** BEFORE DOING ANYTHING I WOULD CONSIDER TAKING YOUR SON TO THE DOCTOR FIRST JUST TO RULE OUT ANY MEDICAL ISSUES**

My son is 5 months and breastfed. For the first few weeks I couldn't understand why he appeared to be in agony whenever he tried to poop. He would turn red and twist his body and scream for an hour. His belly was also rock hard. When he finally was able to go, it was with such force that it always exploded out of his diaper. His first doctor, not a pediatrician but a GP (big mistake) told me that there was no way whatever I was eating would effect him so greatly, but I decided that was bogus. I stopped dairy altogether, milk, all cheese, yogurt, and ice cream. Within two days I had a totally different kid! His digestive system was not developed enough to process cow's milk. He also had a hard time with broccoli and asparagus. Just in the last 3 weeks have I been able to reintroduce those foods back into my diet. (too long without ice cream, I might add.) Maybe watching what you eat if you breastfeed or changing his diet will help. If his digestive system is sensitive then cereal won't do you any good either. Hope this helps!

Quoting Marjorie :

Is your son breast fed or formula. My son is breast fed and his poos are always liquidy. changing alot of different colors and consistancy. I would try Mylocon (i think thats how you spell it) It might not be that it hurts him, he might have gas that he cant get released and it gets built up in his tummy and really hurts him. The meds help with it and help him release it. It has really helped me and my boyfriend.

Oh btw the whole adding cereal to his bottle... I wouldnt recomend it. I guess the wives tale is it will make them sleep better but this is not true. It actually doesnt do much for them besides make them obese.

Marjorie

I also added cereal to my babies bottles and they are not obese.

first off i dont want to say do this....

but being a nurse i do not think its a good idea to put any food in ur babys bottle!!!
also they say dont start baby food too soon as u can cause internal problems for ur child not everything is developed in side at the same time as giving ur child something too soon can cause tons of problems .... things we cant even thing about just some simple ones are food allergies, asmath, and intestinal problems what i would like to give u something to think about is ....

do u bottle of brest feed ?
if brest feed then maybe its something ur eatting ... such as hot food can cause problems garlic, and other spices, some vegs like broclic and other food make gas for the baby

now if its forumla i would say to try adiffernt kind maybe it something in side that kind is not working for ur baby my son had to have lower iron as he couldnt take poop and well with making the iron leves differnt can also do things
or is this an milk base forumla or what kind there could be tons of reasons good luck but gain i say talk to the dr they know best ... !!

Not a problem at all, like I said, I know how it feels to have your sweet baby cry from a messy diaper. I also refuse to use the parent's choice diapers... They are so rough, and feel like they would be uncomfortable. Hope your little boy starts feeling better soon!

we use huggies and he has never had dipar rash.. tried using parent choice just this week and it broke his skin out instantly and it is still healing.. we use butt paste after every changing.. I know everytime he pees he crys till i change him so i bet that that is what it is.. he just doesnt like it on his butt. knowing that it is there bugs him... So maybe you are right that it might not hurt him to do it just the fact that it is there.TY

It is possible that his skin is more sensitive than some other kids is. Has he shown any sensitivity to specific brands of diapers? Do you use diaper cream frequently/regularly? He might also have a sensory issue with having poop in his diapers. It might not be so much that it hurts him to poop, but that he doesn't like having it on his skin. Both of my kids were that way; even the smallest amount of pee or poop in the diaper, and it had to be changed. We went through so many diapers the first weeks with my daughter! It was crazy.

He is breast-fed and we use the Mylocon drops for his gas but it just seems like he is pooping acid-like poo and when it comes out is when he fusses.. wehenver he farts some comes out and that is what gets him...

Sounds more like your son is having trouble with gas, which can be extremely painful especially in a child as young as yours. I have a 3 month daughter, and she would get bad gas. Gas drops and tummy massages are your best bet there. Cereal is actually not recommended at 2 months; it can cause future digestive issues in children. Doesn't happen all the time, but my thought (at least for my kids) is why take the chance? The APA and WHO are working on revising the recommendations from 4-6 months for introducing cereal to 6+months. And if your baby is having pain with runny poop, why would you want to make it more firm? That will just cause more pain on the way out. I am an infant teacher at a child care center (have been there for 3 years) and the mommy of two, and every 2 month old that I have cared for has had liquid poop... They are supposed to, since they are on a liquid diet.
If your child is formula fed, I would try a more sensitive version. If you are breastfeeding, see if limiting your intake of gas-causing foods (broccoli, dairy) might help. Try gas drops, and look up some info on infant massage. All of these might help more than offering cereal.

everyones ideas are great the cereal in the bottle, but like rebecca said it CAN constipate him too, i would probably try eliminating the fact that it might just be wind first, with some wind drops and if that doesnt help then you could give the cereal a go.

If this has been happening for a while with him 'popping' off all the time and bringing up his legs, then it is most probably wind and maybe changing his formula (if formula fed) to a soy based one. U did this with my son and it worked well, i still put wind drops in his bottle to help him burp too.

If you are unsure just speak to a doctor first, cos if it is anything else it may be more serious and any suggestions we may have given you could esculate the problem.

good luck, and i hope he feels better soon =))

Wetter poo CAN be normal for a baby that young since the entirety of their diet is formula...but if it seems like his bowel movements are hurting him, that's probably not a good sign. Adding cereal should definitely help, but careful not to add too much - that can have the opposite effect and wind up constipating him. You might also try switching to a different formula that has more iron in it, or perhaps something like Similac Sensitive. Stay away from formula that has soy in it unless your pediatrician gives you the okay. And before you DO switch formula, you probably should inform the pediatrician so that they're aware and can notate that on his medical charts.

yes make sure that the baby does not have a resh down there as well as make sure that the skin si not tore. my daughter had really bad diarrea from her formula and they had to change it, but she had rashes and cuts.

ASK ABOUT VISION DIAPER RASH OINTMENT. THAT IS THE BEST DIAPER RASH CREAM IN THE WORLD AND CLEARS UP THE RASH AND CUTS THAT DAY.

Ask his Dr first and formost. Sometimes it can take a while for the bowel movements to firm up.

I fed both my daughters to fill their tummy faster so that they were not constantly wanting to eat and they are not obese

you could always get the banana gerber food from the store and put that in the babies formula. or just in a bottle with some water so they can drink it. bananas will make the stool firmer

Cereal helped my daughter but every baby is different...that doesn't seem right that he cries everytime....maybe you should take him to the doctor??
