I am 37 weeks and I started going into labor and then it would stop after a few hours. The doctor told me it was real labor and that hopefully my body will not stop it next time. It has happened every night now and I am thinking that my body will not be able to do this on its own. With my first child I was in labor for 2 weeks before they finally induced me because I started bleeding. I do not want to be in and out of labor for 3 weeks and have to chase around my 2 year old. Is there anything that I can do to get my labor going so i dont have to be induced?

Sex...the prostaglandins in the ejaculate will help efface you. If you aren't married or with a partner...OB's and midwives have prostaglandin gel they can give you. But..lol...I liked getting my prostaglandins the old fashioned way from my hubby. Also...lol...orgasms will cause the uterus to contract. So..if he's good at it...the more sex the better. Just find a position that is comfortable for you. When I was 9 months I was told I just started to look pregnant...I had people call me a liar when I told them that I was 39 weeks along. My son didn't decide to make his grand entrance until I was 41 weeks and 5 days. My midwife said it happens a lot with first babies. Your body only "kinda" knows what its doing. But after the first time, most bodies will be like "oh yeah, i know what this is...we did this before" and you'll go on time at about 38-40 weeks. 37 weeks is considered to be perfectly safe for the child to survive without complications...but, the closer to 40 weeks you can go, the better for the wee one. I walked a ton and it didn't seem to do jack shnikes. I also went into labor the week of the full moon in January. You'll be 40 weeks closer to the 21st of july right? Lol..well..the full moon for July is the 26th. My midwife delivers the MOST babies on the week of the full moon. Your body can and WILL do this on its own. Go into labor I mean. Fully dilate is another story. I was at 2 cm for 14 hours so they hooked me up to pitocin...3 hours later I was pushing and GLAD to. 28 minutes later...I had my perfect....beautiful son. Also...something else to consider. Sometimes (if they are idiots) OB's will "update" you. Meaning...even though they know you aren't...they will chart you as being 2 weeks further along than you really are. Then they can induce you and get you to deliver when the baby is still nice and small and easier to push out. Sounds horrible..and it is. But most physicians know that insurance companies won't pay for an induction before week 37. So...for example...you may only really be 35 weeks right now...but your doc tells you that you are 37...the sure sign will be if he doesn't seem worried or worked up about getting that baby out of you. The earlier it comes the more risk is involved. Most baby's have NO problem surviving after 35 weeks with the advancements in medicine. Some suffer, just not seriously. Honestly, I know how uncomfortable you must feel. That I remember PERFECTLY well. I can't remember how the contractions fell or how to describe it...but I remember feeling like a condom stretched over a watermelon and about to burst. It sucks quite frankly. I'm kinda all over the page here now...lol...but there are a lot of factors to consider before you go off the deep end and try to force your body to do what it might not be ready for. I talked to my midwife about induction a lot. But I was doing water birth without drugs and I wanted to keep everything as natural as possible...even going INTO labor itself. Lol...but by week 41 I was pissed. I didn't want pitocin. But...I didn't dilate and had to have it anyhow. I didn't need drugs for my contractions. I was able to breathe through them just fine. But hell...I was getting tired after 15 hours of that BS. My water had broke at 5:30 in the morning and at 4 pm I was still only at a 2 and 100% effaced. But...lol...holy crap did everything get going when they gave me that. Nice strong contractions...they started the pitocin at 5 pm I was pushing starting at 9 pm. I was so glad. Oofdah.... I can't wait to have my next baby...and I am not kidding. I don't think it will be as long and drawn out as this labor was. Just...know that your baby will come when its ready. Its best to let that happen unless there is a medical need to get it out. Just...let it keep on a cookin'....that's its only job in there...to get big and strong and healthy. And IN there is the best place for it to do that hon... =) Good luck!

You're 37 weeks you don't have to be induced until 42 weeks. There's plenty of time. Every pregnancy is different.

My suggestion is a lot of walking preferably on steps... and if you can just have sex.

37 weeks is still early, barely term, so don't worry about it yet! Its normal to have off and on contractions for a while before going into real labor. Unless you have complications again such as bleeding, they shouldn't worry about inducing you until at least a week past your due date. Two things that can actually help though are lots of walking and lots of sex! The sperm helps "ripen" your cervix.

don't use cod liver oil...it will give you diarrhea and cause you to become dehydrated. if you become dehydrated you will have a hard time keeping up the energy to deliver. if you're dehydrated and having diarrhea...most of the time..so will the fetus. passing muconium is bad news all around. its a old wives tale..and for some women it might work...but don't do it.

I had my son when i was 38 weeks thru being induced. but my mom didnt agree..(i had gestational diabeates) so she told me to go for nice long walks (let gravity do the work, haha), take a dumpy car ride (thats what she did with her first and the next day she went into labor), or have sex...

Cod liver oil works its not the most pleasant but it will clean out ur system and send you into labour within a couple of hours.

I was always told to walk a lot to get my body ready for delivery. But I was so tired all the time I could barely get out of bed the last month. So I had to be induced. I've also been told that sex could induce natural labor, But I would wait til at least 39 weeks to try to induce yourself because your baby just might not develop as fast as others. Everyone is different.

I've also heard that pineapples can help; I don't know how true it is, but hey, its something healthy for you and baby to enjoy in the meantime.

I can appreciate you not wanting to be in pain while chasing a toddler; I was in a similar situation, having an almost-2-year-old with a very large baby sitting on my sciatic nerve. Can someone help you with the toddler until the baby arrives, so you can enjoy a few moments with your child before being in the hospital (and the child can entertain you and help make time go faster)?

There isnt anything you can do to bring it on besides the normal walking, raspberry tea, sex & every other theory out there. I tried it all and nothing worked for me I ended up going into labour naturally at 41 weeks. Just relax and let nature takes its course the doctors will intervine if they are concered.

I walked mine right on out as well. I ended up going into labor at work (38.5 weeks) but everyday I'd make my fiance take the car so I'd have to walk the 15 minutes to go get it. I'd also had the membranes stripped and went into labour 2 days after.

Sex sex and more sex. Throw in having your membranes stripped and some walking and then have some more sex. (sent me into labour within 10 minutes from when we were finished, had it everynight but gave birth 5 days short of my EDD and induction date).

The day I went into labor with my third child I was at a superwalmart shopping with my first two children and my fiance. I was having contractions all day and I knew I was going to have her I was also doing a lot of cleaning because of the other two chilren. My second I tried everything that people said sex, walk, baths, spicy food and I ended up having her on her due date. My first I didn't really try to go into labor. I couldn't wait to see him but I was a little freaked out after going to the birthing classes. I don't know if anything really makes you go into labor. I didn't try anything with my son I had him a day before his due date my second on her due date and my third a day after her due date. With my girls I tried everything to get them out. Good LUck!

I was also looking for natural ways to induce myself, but I was a little past 40 weeks. you're in a sticky situation, since 37 weeks is a bit early, but then again, you ARE having a rough time with labour that isn't going anywhere. You'd still be safe, though, since a 37-week-old baby is full-term.

Someone told me to try castor oil. She took 1 teaspoon and in 6 hours, she started labour. I tried it, but took 2 teaspoons instead. In less than 3 hours, I started labour! Nothing had worked before that. I was out and about shopping around right before that. I gave birth to a healthy girl in the middle of the night.

Castor oil is a uterine stimulant because it's a laxative. However, you shouldn't take a high dose of castor oil. It can give you discomfort, from what I heard.

Another option: next time you go into labour on your own, take a strong thyme leaf tea (boil them for a good 10 min. or something). Supposedly, it accelerates the process.

Well I had the same midwife for both of my children and we both believe in all natural. Lots of walking and having good sensual sex with nipple play will help induce labor. And I don't mean fast, hard sex either. ;)

I had asked my doctor the same question when i was pregnant with our first and he told me sex lol. For one the sperm has a certain chemical that basically "eats" away at the mucous plug and slowly dissolves it and you orgasiming helps with the contractions. Of course me and my husband DTD a large amount of times before the due date and even after and i still needed to be induced. It all depends on your body and the baby. Who knows you might be lucky and it actually works. Mine evidently enjoyed the free boarding and room service lol.

I would probably speak to your doc/midwife about it and see what they think. With my first I was 5 days overdue and I was desperate to have her and was trying everything that I could to make myself go into labor and then I found out that she was breech and too large which is why I never went into labor. Good luck =)

I don't know if I would do it now but I googled with my third one and found out that evening primrose oil soften your cervical helping it to dilate. I warn you though I don't know how long you are in labor but with all three of my children it was at a max two hours. I was one of these women who went fast! I inserted come the night before I went into labor the next morning. Of course because I went so fast I almost had my baby on the way to labor and delivery. Because once I got over there she was here in like 15 to 30 mins. I have been induced because my water would not break - after her I wished I had been induced because they are not kidding about that hard labor when it hits. And if you are in labor you have to wait until they get fluids in you before you can get the medicine to make you numb.

You could ask to have your membranes stripped yes, but first try inserting Evening Prim Rose Oil gel tablets into the Vagina. I used 2 every evening before bed. It softens the cervix. Also walk. Walking helps the baby drop. If you walk right before or when it rains it can also help induce labor. Also if your baby is ready and your cervix is as well sperm can help induce labor, it sounds like it could be. If these didn't work, then I would ask them to strip your membranesm however if you are Strep B positive then they cannot strip your membranes and if the doctor will then you need to begin your Penicillan then to protect your baby.

I went to see my midwife the day before I was induced, I was 2 cm dialated, and she stripped my membranes, later the afternoon I walked. I walked around Toys R Us, the local mall, Target, and the park. I started having contractions the next morning at 3 a.m. and had her the next morning. It was my first child, so I don't know if it would be the same for #2.
