What can I do to help my 4 month old with her constipation, without using juice?

Juice gives her horrible gas and she is in much more pain than she is with her constipation. What else can I try to make her go more often or at least soften it?

My ped had me use some Dark Kyro syrup in my son's bottle when he would get constipated. (1 tablespoon of syrup per 4oz of bottle) We had a lot of issues with this when he first started on solid foods. He could go 4-5days without having a BM. But if you do use it make sure that you are at home and have a few extra diapers on hand. Everything that has been backed up comes out and you have a much happier baby. It does take a few hours to work...

As for an immediate relief if it had built up for too long and she is in terrible pain try suppository for baby you don't need perscription for it. With my baby it worked within an hour or so.. but you still have to find the core of the problem and the solution.. suppository is only for temporary relief.. if the problem continues you should check with a paeditrician..

My baby just turned one and she had severe and constant constipation for months after she started solids.. I tried everything from prune juice to coloxyl which made her gassy and made her reflux worse as well... I avoided every constipating food from rice cereal to bananas... It turned out she wasn't getting enough fluid and water solved the whole problem like magic.. I thought she was getting enough fluid as I put a lot of water in her solids but apparently it wasn't.. so If your baby has started on solids it's worth a try to give more water.. but what's tricky is baby can get intoxicated from too much water especially a young baby as their body weight is not much so you have to figure out the right amout of water to give..

Karo syrup... It helped my cousin's baby, but mix it with her formula/breast milk or get a dropper and get it to her right before you feed her, but don't use water, she's too young and the water will fill her and she won't want her formula/breast milk.

My son was having the same problems and we gave him 1st stage baby food but it was fruit. We started with applesauce and mixed it with a little bit of baby cereal and he hasn't had any problems since then.

my maternal child health nurse said give water and if breast feeding more breast milk, as constipation is not getting enough liquid...if it gets worse or not improving, you should see someone about it!

I have always used the mylicon drops or fruit baby food. My mother in law always tells me to use the karo syrup or an enema, but I've never tried it. Yogurt helps also. My daughters doctor can sometimes check her temperature rectally and it seems to get things going...

I used to get my son liquid flax seed oil. The dr. said it was safe so long as I followed the dosing instruction, but even today, my son still has severe consatipationunless he gets 3 cups of straight apple juice. Also, prunes are a good way to go. We also switched our boy to goat milk and that seemed to help quite a bit too, but not everyone knows who has fresh readily available goat milk. I was never a fan of enemas. I never used karo with my son. If she eats some regular food, try the yobaby yogurt! There is grain and stuff in there that helps too, and yogurt is sposed to help soften a little too.
