I am wanting some ideals on what my one year old can make or get my husband, his daddy for father's day. Does anyone have some ideals? I already have him his cards from me and one from my son.

I am not sure where you live at, but at Lids, a hat store found in most malls at least here in Indiana you can personalize hats. I had one made for my daughters papaws for fathers day and on the back of the hat we wrote "julia's Papaw". It's something they can use and yet its personal. They aren't very expensive and can be done in about an hour.

@Nicole Wieser - That is a REALLY cute ideal! If only we had a garage lol or room just for him but we don't here at our house. I'm thinking of getting him a hat, he LOVES hats that says #1 dad or Best dad in the world or something...just having difficulty finding one...He might just get Cards like I did on mother's day lol.

For fathers day one year I bought a saw from a hardware store and some paint. We painted on it, "you're the best daddy I ever saw" aand also included handprints. He proudly displays it in the garage! It was a bit difficult having a 9 month old do handprints, but it was well worth it!

But I like the shirt ideal and my husband needs more shirts so I will look into that and Jackie I know exactly the shirt you are talking about! Thank You for everyone's input. I think i'm going to get him a shirt and maybe a hat. I already have his father's day cards :)

Kinko's does those mugs, too, and photo calendars. I'm sure most copy places do. I know you said you don't want to order anything off the internet, but you still might want to check out www.personalcreations.com or www.personalizationmall.com They have some great items, and maybe you could give someone the money, and they could order it for you.

In my home preschool, I use poems like "Because I love you,/ Father, each day I'll try/ to be as gentle, loving,/ good and kind as/, you are to me. I take a piece of construction paper, fold it in half, and fold the top two corners down, to form a collared shirt. I make a paper tie for the front (glued to only one side), and put the poem and a handprint inside.

I also use these:

A father is a . . .

Fixer of toys, leader of boys,
Changer of fuses, kisser of bruises.

Wiper of noses, pruner of roes,
Singer of songs, righter of wrongs.

Mover of couches, soother of ouches,
Pounder of nails, teller of tales

Hanger of screens, counselor of teens,
Fixer of bikes, hugger of tikes.

Raker of leaves, cleaner of eaves,
Dryer of dishes, fulfiller of wishes.

And my favorite:

"Daddy, take my hand in yours and you'll plainly see,
How very much I need you now to love and care for me.
As my little hand grows, I will need you even more,
Everything I do in life, I have never done before.
Teach me to be kind and loving, sharing adn forgiving,
Show me through your acts of love, the pure joy of living.
The years will pass by quickly and one day I will be grown,
I will pass what you taught me onto children of my own.
Hold me always in your thought and remember when we're apart,
The special love between a child and a daddy's heart."

I got that one from www.personalcreations.com They print it with your child's name, and a drawing of a child's hand holding daddy's finger.

my son was only like 10mo old for my husband first fathers day. we bought some washable paint and a white poster board and did hand of foot prints. it was really cute, it was also very easy and clean up was also easy. even tho i got some on the carpet it came right out with water.

You can also do that idea at Walgreens or CVS if those stores are in your area. But most photo places have those types of ideas.

For my brothers first fathers day we are making a shirt with her bum prints on it. We are going to dip her bum in paint and put it on a white shirt. I have seen it done on Sheets and Pillow cases so I want to put it on a shirt for him so he can ware it to work, The army bases, as the guys would get a kick out of it.

Go to a pottery painting place such as Color Me Mine. They have mugs, plates, piggy banks, and other really cute ceramic things that your little one can paint (all paint is waterbased and will wash off little hands and clothes). I found one that had a football and said "I love dad" for my son to paint for Father's Day when he was little. It came out really cute and is something handmade that you can keep forever. After you paint it, they will fire it in the kiln and you can pick up your finished peice five days later. There is a sitting fee plus you pay for the item of your cjoice, but if you call or check online you may be able to find a day that they offer free sittings for children or a day when you can get 5 dollars off the sitting fee when you bring in a canned good for the food pantry. It is a lot of fun and a great activity for a child of any age.

Last year, Starbucks had a mug for sale that was white with a black 'chalkboard' finish on it, and it came with a ceramic ink pen. The instructions were to write something on it, then put it in he oven for a period of time to make the paint set. Afterwards, it was microwave and dishwasher safe.
I made a little pool of the paint, and dipped my daughter's hand in it, then pressed her hand to the mug, and wrote 'I love you Daddy' on the other side.
It was a huge hit with her coffee loving Daddy. :)

There are also mug and cup-making kits at Walmart and other stores, where you insert a photo or decorated paper into the bottom of the cup to display it.
If you would prefer to do a tshirt or something similar, Walmart and Walgreens have them at their photo areas. They may have to mail it to you, but you can order in store.

Have fun!

Last year I made a homemade card from the baby with a cute little poem about daddy on the inside, and I bought a father and son photo frame and placed a picture of the two in it. It was a cute first father's day gift. :)

It can't require ordering off the internet though.....because my husband would find out what it is before father's day. But yes that is a cute ideal :)
