Yeah, wood and MDF. I just didn't want plastic. Costco has the best prices where I live (Canada).
I really want to play with it now. Stupid waiting until Christmas.

I got the crayons at walmart and because of the holidays they have a gift box of them and you get these bathtub coloring pages with it that hang on the wall and an eraser to clean them up when they are done using them. I thought it was a pretty good idea
My daughter just turned 2. We got her a play kitchen. She got a bunch of food and what not for her birthday to go with the kitchen. We decided to get one big present instead of a bunch of tiny ones.
Pretend play kits are great as well. Doctor or vet kits are some of the best.

My 2 year old is an only child for maybe 14 more days so we did get a lot of things but I thrift shop and buy used so we didn't pay retail on a few of the big ones. We got him the cozy coupe car, mega blocks wagon, innotab w/ 3 games, a mobi go game, socks, p,j's, kid tools, mega blocks, books, toothbrush, and a Elmo back pack. We started shopping early otherwise he would not have had such a large amount to open.

I would have gone way overboard too, but I'll be 37 weeks pregnant on Christmas Eve, and we still have to buy a lot of things like a second crib and a lot of little things and clothes that all are adding up. We are waiting till after christmas to buy though since we all asked our family to just buy things off our registry for us instead of something that was actually for us. So we will go from there! Then next year will be small too since we will have 2 kids to buy for! lol.

my daugther was about that age last Christmas (she turned two in early April). We got her a toy keyboard. It's a battery operated one on a stand, with a little stool and a microphone. Of course she is too young to play any songs, but she loves it anyway. She just likes to make noise and sing into the mic. Also, it has some demo songs on it so she would always turn that on and dance to it. This year (nearly 3) she is very into playing "people" and all things girly, so she is getting a disney princess set that has a princess, several outfits and a horse and carriage. She is also getting (to share with her baby brother) a Fisher Price Little People Airport playset. It has an aeroplane, big enough for the little people to go inside, and the airport building with working baggage carousel, etc. She will love this one because she will be able to enact it all, which will make a nice change from all of her toys wanting to go to the park! Oh, I'm sooo sick of that game!
Oh, and playing people reminds me - last year she was just starting to get into playing people with little dolls she can hold in her hand. I got her a Fisher Price Little People Nativity set. It has the same little plastic characters, but Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the wise men, etc. It also has a stable with an angel on top and light up star that plays Silent Night, and of course the donkey, a sheep and cow, and the wise men's camel. She loved it, and still does. I actually gave her that one prior to Christmas though, so that we could set it up with our decorations and she could play with it and learn a little bit about the Christmas story. We didn't have a proper nativity anyway and rather than buy a good one that would break if she played with it, I thought this would be perfect for her.
My girls (10) are getting puzzles, art stuff, nail polish... I think that's it, but those 3 things include a LOT.
My son (3.5) is getting a small Lightning McQueen car, some more cars, Cars bubble bath, art stuff, and puzzles.
The family is getting Candyland and 'Soul Surfer'. :)

My little boy turned two in September. I really wanted to get him a train table set but they were so expensive. I finaly found a bargain at the christmas tree shop! We also bought him a diego adventure set, vtec reader, weeble merry go round, a kids guitar, play dough factorie, some puzzles, books and dvds. My mom went overboard buying a power wheels ligtning mcqueen and a tv shaped like lightning. I think he is a little young to have his own tv but it fits in so well with his room. He has a racecar bed and decor plus it has a dvd
player so I don't have to hook it up to cable. He is an only child and only grand child so he is very spoiled!

Thanks so much for posting that. I don't want plastic either and had seen that one before but was unaware of anywhere around here that sold it. I didn't want to pay the astronomical price that it would cost to ship but we have Costco here so that is perfect.

My daughter is 2.5 and she is getting a really kickass play kitchen and accessories that she will have to share with her sister one day (she is 8 weeks old). Her sister isn't really getting anything so we invested in a more expensive toy that should last many years. I get kind of sick of having many small items lying around that don't get played with a lot.

After last years disaster (we let them open one present and they were so into it they didn't want to open the gazillion others sitting under the tree) we wised up. We Let my husband's parents buy them a year of lessons and clothes, and my parents bought them leapster explorers, My sister is giving them her boys hand-me-down thomas the trains and tracks. We figured that will be distracting enough and decided to fill up their stockings with hardened animals and other cheap things they like and buy them new beds and organic woolen mattresses instead. #weareboring

I think it depends on your childs level and interests. Mines in particular,is 2 and she is advanced. She loves to move! I bought her a wagon for two, she has a leapfrog laptop, an elmo and cookie monster, and a camera. Fairly simple, not much, and her bday was this past Nov.

For my 18month old daughter we got her the ride &rock pink and white horsey, a small slide for indoors, Elmo and Mickey and Minnie characters, a baby doll, numerous leap frog items 18mos + 2yrs.
My 8yr old is just a easy with barbie, Littlest pet shop, play dog arts and crafts, etc so far
My son will be 2 the end of January. We got him playdoh sets, bathtub crayons, coloring books, a tool set that is kind of like the kitchen sets but just kids tools, a basketball net that has 6 different heights and he absolutely loves the sid the science kid and word world shows on pbs so we got him a few of those dvds. They are educational so it is great that he likes them. We also got him a toothbrush and some hot wheels cars for his stocking. Most of the stuff we got him was things he can learn from.

I'm a little behind this year, but one thing I got her was a book called Tickle Monster. Adorable book and it's interactive which is even better. I bought the whole Tickle Monster kit and I cannot wait to introduce her to this story.
Where did you find bathtub crayons?
Mine has been crazy for trucks lately. So we got a tiny one for her stocking. They were on a By one get one free sale. Since her brother will be born at the latest next monday. I'm saving the second to give to her as a big sister present.

Thanks for the ideas I really like the idea for the baby stroller. i think that she would like that. I also really like the educational games idea. I just didnt want her to end up with a bunch of junk for christmas. She is getting a toy kitchen from her grandparents.

My daughter is 18 months and I got her a baby stroller with a baby to go in it from santa. We also got her a wooden puzzle, a couple of board books, a box of mum mums, and I got her a small ball, teddy bear, sippy cup and new plastic spoons for her stocking. That is more than I intended on getting for her because I figure she wont know or care so why go crazy. For my son he is getting a few toys he asked for some pjs and books.
