I totally agree. Both of my children get their vaccines when they need too. If they fall behind, I catch up before getting them back on the schedule for them. They vaccinate for chicken pox now, and they only give that one to school age children. My daughter got her 4 year shots last month and they gave her the chicken pox vaccine. Neither one of my kids has ever gotten sick from getting their shots. The worst that happens is their legs are sore. The Health Department where I live even recommends some vaccinations for parents to help keep their kids healthy.

I was hypothetically speaking but using small pox as an example. They are considering small pox vaccines again. They have all kinds of stuff in their labs over there that can kill... it's insane.

the only link that i know of between shots and autism is that it hasn't been completely proven but giving too many shots in one sitting may cause a high enough fever to hinder the developing brains of little ones. my daughter has had all her shots and she's doing awesome in fact i recommend getting your baby vaccinated because it could save their life in the long run.

Autism typically isn't daignosed until a child is 2-3 years of age. It CANNOT be caused by vaccinations because it is a genetic disorder. Which means if you carry the gene for it, one of your children could be autistic. That's like saying that vaccines cause Down's Syndrome. It's genetics and chromosomal deficiencies, not the vaccinations. People just want to find blame somewhere else instead looking at their own family history (or even their spouses). My husband has a cousin who has Down's Syndrome, because of that, our son was at risk for it. Vaccinations aren't toxins, whoever thinks that should do some research. A vaccine is a small amount of the virus. Example, if you get a Flu shot, you're being injected with the flu virus. Besides, toxins are everywhere. Unless you live in a plastic bubble, you're exposed to them all the time. Facts are facts, if your child isn't vaccinated...they cannot go to any public school, including daycare and preschool. So unless you paranoid people out their plan on paying out the bum for homeschooling and don't care that your child could contract one of these diseases they vaccinate for, all you have is yourself to blame. I got all of mine, my daughter is up to date with hers and so is my son. My mentally handicapped brother has all of his and so does my younger brother who has severe immune deficiencies. Myself and none of them have ever had any problems due to vaccinations. It's not the vaccines that are making your kids sick, it's genetics and possibly your parenting style. If your child isn't exposed to the "elements" and allowed to go outside, they're going to have problems with things like asthma and immune defiiciencies. If they don't get to do normal "kid stuff" like eating dirt and bugs, playing in the dogs water bowl, etc they will not have an immune system and will not be able to fight off so much as the common cold.

Trina that must have been so terrifying! I hope he is ok now?
In my opinion it's when we have first hand experience with things that can threaten our child's life that we become less dogmatic, less trusting that others are taking care of it and make sure we know all the facts for ourselves.

They don't vaccinate the general public for small pox anymore. Military members get if, but they can get an exemption for A) pregnant spouse B) Eczema C) someone in their family has eczema.

I don't feel like reading all of the long drawn out crap yall are typing up. BTW autism shows the most around the age of 2... which is why ppl like to link it with vaccines. That and they want to place blame on everyone but themselves. it's genetic, helllooo... Whoever up there (I forget) said it's being linked to a vitamin D deficiency... I can totally see that! 1 of my TWO autistic nephews has a D deficiency. You can see through his skin, he's so pale.
To miss "toxins" up there... ok, sooo let me ask, when you leave the house... do you wear a mask? do you wear rubber gloves? do you touch everything at the store or outside the house with a napkin? Toxins are everywhere! you are breathing in soooo many chemicals and pollution in the air, it's not even funny.
Also... I was watching the 1st part of Dr. Oz today and he did a segment on the small pox... it's pretty bad. Did you know that the soviet has a whole lab full of bio-weapons. Meaning... fridges and freezers FULL of deadly viruses. Anyone can get ahold of them. They are secured with a dinky padlock that can easily be broken. All they have to do is fill a sprayer (kinda like the bug guy or yard guy uses for weeds) with these diseases and spray it in a public place, like an airport. The small pox disease spreads within 5 days. within 2 weeks 1/2 the nation is infected! Get where I'm going with this? If you aren't familiar with small-pox then wiki or google it. I would much rather vaccinate my daughter with "toxins" and "autism" than have her suffer the negative effects of something like small pox. Biochemical warfare is just as deadly as a bomb... Here in the U.S. that's a big thing...

If this doesn't make sense (talkin in circles)... sorry, I feel like I got hit by a mack truck that then backed up and hit me again... I hate allergies!

Vaccinations are safe, whoever told you that they can cause autism is full of crap. They are also important to keep your child from getting extremely ill and you won't be able to enroll your child in school unless all vaccinations are up to date. Both of my kids have their vaccinations, and nothing negative has ever happened to them.

Exactly, I have a child who has done courses of steroids for severe asthma, and I have taken them for inflammation. I worry about being exposed through live vaccines that are shedding. They do shed for several days and even weeks after vaccination. That is why if you are living with someone who is immune-compromised they want to know, and why people with low immune function should not have vaccinations. Just last year my child suffered from a severe walking pneumonia that caused his white cell count to drop to 2,000 . I was terrified that he was being exposed through other vaccinated children to illness, and this was at the height of all of the H1N1 hoopla. He recovered, and after about a week his bloodcount went back to 4,000, his RBC recovered, and during that visit the dr. asked if we wanted to give him the H1N1 vaccine. While his WBC was 2,000 and we were waiting on it to recover so we wouldn't have to see hematology for childhood leukemia (they told us when his WBC count was low it could be leukemia). That is enough terror for one day, no thank you. We passed.

Some of you are so angry about those who choose not to vaccinate and blame them for infections. Megan put it well that infections happen because we can't control nature. Although one could equally claim that those who choose to vaccinate are putting others at risk. Should I come after you because I caught whooping cough, measles and mumps from recently vaccinated children who then carried a mild form of the disease in school? It is rare for trasmission to occur but I am proof it does happen and it is not so mild for immuno-compromised people. Case studies have shown that when children are vaccinated against chicken pox it increases the cases of shingles in the elderly by up to 90%. So although one could say that your vaccinated children are putting others at risk I wouldn't do that because the health of your child is your business. I don't expect you to inject or not inject YOUR child for my benefit or anyone elses. Just for their own.

Your body is a temple. You can stay healthy by using the right things.. not by injecting them with chemicals. Outbreaks happen b/c you can not control nature, you can not control germs. My kids are home schooled and we have plenty of friends that know we don't vaccinate and they are fine with it. They know that vaccines aren't 100% but they accept the risks associated with the vaccines, I am not willing to do that, not after what my boys have been through. And assuming that the majority of kids in a classroom have been vaccinated, what exactly would my children be giving them, those children are protected, right?

I am sorry that your baby got sick. What was your baby sick with? I am guessing that doctors treated with fever reducers and myriad of drugs, which interfere with the bodies complex immune system. Children with a childhood disease need to be kept warm, hydrated, in bed so that their body can heal itself. Most of the diseases that are vaccinated for are malevolent disease, that means you can prevent them with having a high functioning immune system. This country eats loads of crap, scarfs down drugs like there candy, injects toxins into their system and then wonder why they get we have such a high rate of disease. Vaccine mess with the immune system in an unnatural way. Why is there such a high rate of autoimmune disease in this country? Are we simply trading childhood diseases, that if treated properly only help the immune system and create lifelong immunity, or are we accepting vaccine without a blink of an eye and causing our child a whole host of serious life debilitating disease later on in life?
Bottom line, vaccines are not scientifically tested for safety and effectiveness and the effectiveness and side effects of vaccines are not monitored after they are introduced. How convenient for the large pharmaceutical companies, who are exempt from any liability for the damage that vaccines cause.

Rebecca, thank you for clarifying. That helps a great deal. It must have been a very hard thing for you to go through. I think one issue with the internet and COM is that we don't know the reasons why people do things or their whole story. It is just good to give all the benefit of the doubt, and to remember that we all love our little ones and we all want what is best...including non vaccinating mothers.

Sorry it has offended but some people who think it's ok to not vaccinate go on rants as well and i find some offensive so i'll leave my post for now.
It's a lose lose really. the one's who do vaccinate feel strong about it and those who don't feel strong about it. It's ALWAYS a battle in these topics, just like breast feeding or formula...it's always a debate, right.
I think everyone has the right to their own opinion and their own decisions for their family but the vaccines are in place to help us not harm. The effects are different for everyone.
And yes i feel strongly about this seeing first hand the effects of NOT vaccinated and harming another child.

I'd say do your own research. It's the only way you will be comfortable with any decision you make. My son is 9 months and not vaccinated. I have done a lot of reading on this topic and this was the best decision for my family. I found Dr. Sears book helpful since he does present both side, unlike most books which are pushing one side or the other.
People get very emotional, shall we say? about this topic so it's hard to get a non-bias opinion. Do what is right for you and your family and only you know what that is.

Ok Megan, you know why outbreaks will occur again...because people WHO DON'T VACCINATE!
Ok so i went back further and read some more info that you have graciously written and i want to ask you this...
Because i took in 3 children in to my home who weren't vaccinated and my son almost DIED because of the people's negligence in not telling me is it my fault that they decided to bring the germs in to my home...no it was not!
The children were older then my son and had the option to get the vaccines he is not able to and brought in these germs to my home, which i also had a new born in, and it just kills me to see people think it's ok to not vaccinate! If you don't want to then fine, like you say it's your purgative but when it risks other people's kids lives then guess what it's no longer just effecting you! Once your child steps foot in to school they will be carrying around germs others have been treated fro yes, but did you ever think that there could be kids who actually can't get a vaccine because of health reasons??? what if your child made this other one ill. Would you take the blame or would you say something selfish like, well they just didn't have to go to school. Shame on some of you. My mother can't get vaccinated because she has lupus and i would be irate if she got sick because of a selfish person. If you don't have a VALID medical reason to not vaccinate and it is NOT your religious beliefs, then why are you signing that little piece of paper for your kids to go to school.
I think parents who decide not to vaccinate their kids are setting them up for failure. think of the jobs they will miss out on because YOU decided their fate for them...think of the friends that will be lost, on the parents and children's end once people find out you didn't vaccinate.

Keara, the study that was done YEARS ago that linked vaccines to autism has recently been thrown out. He made the results say what He wanted them to say. there is NO link to autism. It is my belief that a child is born autistic but no symptoms are present until they are triggered. some children's trigger can be change in routine, or it can be a vaccine. AGAIN, I DO NOT THINK VACCINES CAUSE AUTISM BUT IT CAN TRIGGER IT. My nephew is autistic and he was fine after EVER vaccine. when he was 3yrs i would say was when we saw a change. He was brought up in a rough house hold until he was 2yrs which was when my mother took him from my sister and my mother still has him and he's 8yrs old. I think his living conditions were too harsh and my sister didn't care what she did while pregnant and this caused his autism. I was worried about my own son before we gave him his 1.5yr vaccines as they "say" these are the ones that are "linked" but we went ahead and our son is fine. If you have concerns, go on an adjusted schedule but do not miss any! I did childcare in my home and i didn't ask if the kids were vaccinated when they came in my home and my son almost died! The family i watched ,3 kids, were not vaccinated and i let them go the next week when i found out. I ask EVER parent that comes through my door now. My kids are way too important to me.
And people who LIE so they don't get vaccinates are just wrong! Yes some people have religious beliefs but if my kids get sick in school because they sat next to your kids and they brought something there you better be damn sure i'll go after the parent and the school! Also tell parent's who have other kids in a play group you do if you plan on not vaccinated and i can guarantee some wont go to play group anymore.
We don't have epidemics anymore because of these vaccines! Do the right things here. Ho would you feel if your child died because of something that you could have controlled... and if vaccines were really linked to autism wouldn't we ALL be autistic...

These are the toxins that are in vaccines, I don't mean to be rude, but how can anyone think that it is okay to inject someone with these substances, much less a baby. A 180 lb man gets the same vaccines as an 6 lb baby. Ppl with lots of antibodies can still get sick. The level of antibodies in the blood that is suppose to prevent a person from catching a disease is not determined by scientific investigation; it is just arbitrarily chosen. So what happens the next time we have a measles outbreak in a population that supposedly has herd immunity, the CDC will add more shots on top of what kids already get b/c "obviously" you need more shots to create immunity, or they will adjust the "correct age" that the shot should be given at. Vaccines don't work, but if you want to think they do, that's fine by me, that's your prerogative.

The goal of eradicating the world of polio has long come and gone. It is only a matter of time before polio becomes virulent again. In 1992 the goal was set to eradicate polio in 2000? Vellore India, which had a 98% vaccination rate and 80% rate for all rural areas, still had a polio outbreak. Bottom line, they won't ever get rid of polio, b/c there is no such thing as herd immunity and you can't control nature. And yes, you are quite right, ppl with polio can spread the disease, satellite cases are when vaccinated ppl spread polio, so the ball bounces both ways.

Big Pharmaceutical companies, the FDA, CDC, and NIH are all corrupt and in bed together. The CDC's beloved Paul Offit created a rotavirus vaccine that has since been recalled because it is contaminated with a pig virus that causes cancer, conflict of interest much? And were is Mr. Offit and the millions he stole, anyway? That right there makes the CDC less than a creditable source of info.

What if your son did have a reaction to a vaccine, do you think it would be fair for him to suffer just b/c he is the minority of kids? That he doesn't matter b/c we are "saving" so many other children? Ask my boys what they think of that idea, I think they would tell you that they got the raw end of the deal. In the larger picture, I am just thankful that they are alive even with all of the daily struggles we have, b/c they could have lost their lives like so many others out there.

Megan, it's of course a person's own prerogative whether or not they vaccinate their child, but the fact remains that vaccines do work by creating anti-bodies in a persons immune system. Some vaccines (not all) require boosters to try and ensure that enough antibodies are present in order to crate life-long immunity. Just like with natural disease, it's always possible to not have enough remaining anti-bodies in order to ward off another infection, people with chicken pox can get it more than once, people with measles can get it more than once, etc. As with anything, it's not 100% guaranteed for every individual... but for many of us, the benefits far outweigh the risks.

It is true that 90% of polio infections are asymptomatic, but anyone who contracts polio can spread it. Since the height of the polio epidemic in the U.S. in the 1950's 60,000 people a year were crippled or killed because of the disease. Since the release of the vaccine, polio has been eradicated in the Western Hemisphere. If vaccines didn't work to create immunity, this would never have happened. The WHO, UNICEF and other organizations have been working since the 70's to vaccinate people in countries with indigenous polio virus, and have reduced the worldwide number of polio cases 99%. Fewer than 1,000 cases of polio are reported each year, and of the 124 countries that harbored the disease indigenously, only 4 still do.

As for Wakefield, his study was retracted because it was impossible to reproduce his results, and it was determined he obtained some data unethically. There may be a link between vaccines and autism, and some researchers are still looking into it, but as of yet, it has not been definitively proven. The Lancet very rarely retracts studies or findings, and i do not believe they would cave to pressure from big pharma.

I believe that with the controversy surrounding vaccines, it's almost impossible for any parent to remain completely ignorant of the alleged risks and benefits. As an educated and concerned parent myself, i have researched the ingredients in vaccines, paid attention to which vaccines were considered safe, and which not, and exercised my right to selectively vaccinate, or delay vaccination. I don't feel that i've made these choices unwisely. My son is very healthy and robust, i believe this is thanks, in part, to the vaccines he did receive.

Wow, have any of you toting the mainstream party line ever looked into what is in a vaccine? Vaccines do not work, they do not create immunity to disease, if they did you would not need a booster. Your kids don't have to be vaccinated to go to school, you simply fill out an exemption form. Dr. Wakefields study was retracted by the Lancet after bullying and under the table deals from big pharma. Your doctor is not a valid source for medical advise/info concerning vaccines, he is payed for every child he fully vaccinates. Every one loves to bring up polio, did you know that between 94 - 96% of the ppl will get polio and will never know it? Did you know that getting a regular flu shot makes you more likely to contract the swine flu? Mercury in vaccines was replaced with aluminum, another neurotoxin. A great book to read is How to Raise A Vaccine Free Child by Wendy Lydall, she goes through the so called science behind vaccines(Louis Pasteur was one of the biggest scientific frauds of all time), how to treat a child with a childhood disease and dispels many vaccine myths. The decision is yours but make it wisely, you can always wait to vaccinate but you can never take it our of their system after the damage is done.
Viruses will decide when they are going to become virulent again and studies have shown that even if you are vaccinated you will get the disease and that those that are vaccinated get the disease much more severely than those that remain vaccine free(they have stronger immune systems)

my half brother is autistic and his mother has done extensive research on the topic. To date there has been no evidence to support this claim. Your child would be more likely to suffer from the illness itself than to have any complications from the vaccine, which is quite scary. Like Trina i've done pretty extensive research on the link between vaccines and autism. She's right that the initial man who linked vaccines to autism was discredited as it was impossible to replicate his experiment, and it was found out he'd obtained his data unethically.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/02/02/lan...

Some believe there may be a link between vaccines and autism, but it has to do with a mitochondrial DNA disorder that is triggered by a low-grade fever (sometimes caused by vaccines). This fever can disrupt the mitochondria and the autism that was lying dormant, is not present. The autism can also come on from a fever due to illness, or teething.
http://www.autismspeaks.org/dawson_state...

Recently in Arizona there was a breakout of measles brought over by an unvaccinated child who'd recently traveled to Switzerland, every person who contracted the disease was unvaccinated at the time. People were being exposed to the disease at their doctors offices. Measles may not be dangerous for some but it is for others, and the recent outbreak is a stark reminder that while these diseases are no longer endemic in the United States (because of vaccines) they are still out there in the rest of the world, and they can be brought back to the U.S. and spread to other people who are not vaccinated.

One theory as to the cause of autism is vitamin D deficiency, some reaserchers are exploring the link between maternal vitamin D deficiency in pregnancy and during lactation as being one cause of autism.
http://www.scientificamerican.com/articl...

It's a pretty interesting implication, that as we started staying out of the sun more, and wearing higher SPF sunscreen our numbers of autism have risen.

The doctor that first questioned the MMR and autism has been struck off!!. the research he did was based on only 12 children 3 of which had a family history of Autism. people only think it is linked because the signs of autism start to happen around the time the MMR was given. if the MMR was given 6 months earlier or later no-one would ever question it. It still astounds me how this link was disprove more than 5 years ago and still mothers are putting their babies health and life at risk.

You should get "The Vaccine Book" by Dr. Sears. It was really helpful for us. I was not comfortable with getting the vaccinations, but after reading that book and talking to our pediatrician, we decided to do an alternate vaccine schedule. Our daughter will get most of the standard vaccinations eventually, just not as many all at once. As for the debate about vaccines being linked to Autism, I believe that the shot series in question is the MMR, which is given at a year old (please, anyone correct me if I am wrong).

omg, this drives me nuts!!! There is no proof that autism and vaccines are connected!! If vaccines have ANY link to autism than how come there has been such a spike in the past 15 years? Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disorder in the country, with a registered growth rate of 10% to 17% every year. How come 1 in every 150 children have autism? How come 4 out of 5 people affected by it are male? The only reason IMO that this relation was even started was pure coincidence that the start of the spike happened at the same time it was made manditory in quite a few states in order to enter public schools. It is also said that household chemicals or chemicals on foods can cause the disorder- however no one ever says anything about that right? It is a genetic brain disorder! It is there regardless of immunizations!

I have an severly autistic nephew- I have done my research! Needless to say by my previous rant my 19 month old has ALL of his vaccines (short of the flu or H1N1) and he is fine! The only issue I have ever had with him was yes, after is MMR shot-his arm was swollen...big deal. To everyone that wants to go on and on about the crap in the shots- if they are that bad HOW COME THEY KEEP GIVING THEM, if they are so horrible howcome we dont have polio or mumps and measle epidemics anymore...maybe this makes me a crappy mom but I would rather have my son be injected with that stuff and be healthy than run the chance of him dying of a diease.

Anyway all the being said, it IS a personal choice, but if everyone wants to talk about doing research-do your research!

let me start by saying i had a perfectly healthy happy on schedule with all her milestones child till she was given her shots at 15 months. I DONT believe the gave her the problems we have, but i believe that having given her so many shots in such a little time, caused her little body to be over loaded. I believe she was genetically predisposed to what ever it is she has(she just turned 5 and we still have no answers) So when our second daughter came along it was a hard decicion for us to make on weather or not to vaccinate her. So we compromised! Since we know that we would rather have another special needs child instead of a dead child we do vaccinate her. However we are choosing to do it slowly and only one shot at a time. AFTER HAVING AN AUTISTIC LIKE CHILD WITH OTHER MEDICAL PROBLEMS AFTER THE VACCINATIONS WE STILL FEEL VACCINATION IS THE BEST CHOICE OVER DEATH BY SOME OLD RARE DISEASE.

if you read the pamphlets about the shots most doctors give out they tell you exactly what could happen. Unfortunately we got the bad side effects...but hey we still have our little girl.

My niece almost died from her vaccines, she has to be admitted to the hospital each time she gets one. My sister is like most parents, thinking it is better for her to have them. My nephew became autistic after having his vaccinations. As for my children, I would never have them injected with something I would not put into my body and dont get me started on the CDC, they will say anything just to shut people up. Then of course, I dont trust the government in any form.

You guys need to do more research, obviously. inoculations (vaccines) can and have been linked to autism. There was recently a nuerosurgeon who had an 18 month old daughter who was quite intelligent for her age. She got her last set of inoculations and became autistic. Being a nuerosurgeon, he knew this wasn't normal, and actually sued the government and WON... They have a separate savings just for these type of things. Research does not include Google, people. Try picking up real books. This isn't even the beginning. If you really care about your children, you'll do your research. Immunizations can cause autism, paralysis, ETC.

unfortunately i wasnt aware of the dangers until after my son recieved his vaccinations. he's 8 now, and hasnt needed one since i found out. i did refuse the h1n1 vac, i felt that one was paricularly sketchy, and also rushed. i'm not too sure what i'm going to do when it comes up again.i can't decide if it's more dangerous to vaccinate him or not. i guess it depends on how likley the autism is compared to how likely it is that he'll catch the disease they are vaccinating against. i have a friend who doesn't trust vaccines, her daughter is on an ammended vaccine schedule. she only gives her the ones that are mandated(thats right, some of them are forced) so she can go to school, and she never allows her to get more than one vaccine in one visit. the more i read the more afraid of vaccines i am. but i'm not sure if i'm comfortable refusing, i cant help but think what if i refuse and he gets that disease. i also believe that no doctor is going to tell you the whole truth about the dangers of vaccines. its about the pharmasutical companiers and money money money. i will get more detailed info about how my friend handles vaccines, and i will pass it on to you.
