My 20 month old has been in a toddler bed for about a month now. I have been having a lot of people tell me that he is just to young to be out of the crib. We took him out of the crib when we found him with one leg over the side of the crib. Do you think we are wrong?? What age or time do you think is a good age?

i dont think it is wrong my lil was 13 months when she went to a bed i think it is ok as long as they can get into it with out help and and are able to walk on there own but i think to answer your its when you feel your lil boy is ready for it ..... my lil girl is almost 2 and she is in a twin bed now

Ayden has been in a toddler bed since 13 months. He has done very well. Frankly I think he loves being able to crawl into his own bed. The main thing is to make sure that he has his things in there like his blanket or stuff animal; just as he would in his crib. But definetely if he is trying to crawl out of the crib you don't want him falling that far, so it's time for big boy bed!

I wouldn't let anyone tell me what I was doing with my child is wrong. You know your child best! I personally wait until 2 years. But if your child is going to climb out and hurt himslef, well then you may have no choice. Safety first. If he is sleeping in it fine, and not having any real problems adjusting, then why not?

I believe you were right for what you did...I really don't think there should be a certain age...A toddler being able to climb out of his crib on his own can be very dangerous and if he's ready for a toddler bed then do it.

We put my daughter in a toddler bed just after a year. She was showing interest so we gave it a shot. She did great! She's now 2 (almost) and in a full sized bed.

We did the same thing with our son except he was 15 months and actually was climbing out. It is the safe choice, the child could get badly hurt. I was always told by my doctor and my mother that you child will let you know when they are ready for things to change. I think you made the right choice for your child.

My son is still in his cot and is 22 months old, he loves it and have never caught him climbing out of it yet. Gonna think about the move to a bed when he turns two as he is a big boy, and there doesn't seem to be that much space in his cot anymore. However if my 20 month yr old had started to put a leg over the cot, and looked like he was gonna be a danger to himself, i would have done the same as you. A lot of my friends babies that are older than mine are all in beds, so no i don't think it is too young. You know yourself when your baby is ready for a bed, and at present mine is still content with his cot.

na ur not wrong only u no when ur tot is ready for a big bed! my son has been in a single bed since he was 12months old and sleeps way better!! he can get on and off easy! there is no age as such to make it the right time!!

If he's starting to climb out the crib and he's happy in the bed why not? I just tried getting my 26month old in a bed but its just not the right time. So she's back in the cot cos she feels safe there. Every child is different so do what feels right!

Dont let anyone tell you he is too young. my oldest son was in a bed from 18mths and he has handled it well. and he was in a normal single bed. if you are worried it may be daunting for him then you can always use one of those toddler beds. they are low to the ground and have the sides on them so they cant roll out

My daughter started sleeping in a toddler bed at 18 months. every child is different and if your child is going to get hurt by staying in a crib then its time for the toddler bed!!

My daughter was in a toddler bed at 16 mos because she thought was a monkey, and I was terrified she would fall and hurt herself! Then, when she was 2 1/2 she went into a twin size! It all worked out for the best :) You have to do what you feel is ok for you and your son!

i don't think your wrong if the crib becomes dangerous it is time for the baby to get out. your son is a good age to get into a toddlers bed. always remember your motherly instincts will kick in for things like this. your doing a great job.

i think you did the right thing doll, my son was 2 in august but i havent gotten a toddler bed yet because i am afraid of him getting out side.we are in a new house now. .he can unlock dead bolts! so i have some baby proofing to do first.

5 years old! lol wow its child abuse to keep a child in a crib till that age..sounds to me more like a prison :/ i think 2 is a good age.

My ten month old has been in his toddler bed for a month and a half now. My friend's daughter is also ten months old and sleeps all night long in a twin bed. I I have bed rails on the sides but he knows where the edges are, even in the dark, and has never fallen off or gotten out at night.

My baby is 2 AND A half now and I have her in a crib/toddler bed(we took one rail off and it is like a day bed!) so that is good....we actually did that along time ago! If your baby is old enough(or mature enough) to climb over the rail...then it is time to get a toddler bed(if the rail cant be removed! Good luck! :)

Every child is different. If you feel you son is ready for a toddler bed, then go for it. No one can tell you the right age. My son starting sleeping in a toddler bed at 13 months. He is now 21 months and we have not regreted night of it.

I feel that if he's in danger by being in the crib then the toddler bed is fine. Also, who cares what other people think. He's your baby & it's yours & your hubby's decision.
On the other hand, I personally believe 18 months upward is a good age. Just make sure it's low enough to the ground so when they get off it doesn't hurt them.

when they start crawling out of their crib. our son was about 19 months when we switched him over. we didnt want him to get hurt so we put him in a bed. we got a side rail for our twin bed and he did great.

I have 3 boys and I think it really depends on the child! My oldest was in a toddler bed at 15 months, my middle one, not till 2 (he was a naughty one!!) any my youngest is 16 months and he's not climbing out yet so he's going to stay in his crib till he can get out!

I think you're doing the right thing. It's better to be closer to the ground with a rail to avoiding falling out while sleeping, than the baby climbing out and hurting himself. My baby is only 8 months but he's very adventurous and I predict he'll be in a toddler bed around 18 months or so, because at that point it will probably no longer be safe anymore. You know your kid better than your friends, and every kid is different.

I would say about 1 1/2 to 2 Years Old. A very low bed because there easy to roll off and easy to climb up.

i think it is totally your call. i would rather my child roll off of a low mattress then fall 3 feet from a crib. my daughter is almost 18 months and there is no way i would put her in a bed yet only due to the fact that she is fearless and just leaps off things and i have not yet caught her trying to climb out of the crib either, but i know the time will come. good luck

My son was about 13 months when we put him on a mattress on the floor. He would climb out of his crib not on the railing side but ends ( they were arched) where it was the highest. To me if he can crawl out he needs a toddler bed.

My daughter is 12 months old, and she has been in a toddler bed since she was 8 months. she was crying her head off every time i'd put her in her crib, and wouldn't give up, so i put her in a bed (with a safe T sleep) and haven't looked back since! she now is out of her safe T sleep, and just has rails on the sides of her bed. It's completely up to you and your child when you feel ready for a "big kids" bed, and don't let anyone else influence you otherwise!

When my daughter (20 mnths) started putting her leg over her crib rail, i lowered her mattress to the last notch. Now, she can't get her leg up that high. Not sure how your crib is designed. Although, i won't put my daughter in her toddler bed yet for the simple fact that she can't do stairs by herself yet and the bedroom is on the second floor. I think her legs are still too short to take the steps down. She's as fast as lightening going up them though! I think i will be comfortable letting her sleep in her toddler bed after i am convinced she is able to do stairs independently. If you feel that your child is safe and secure in his toddler bed then by all means, do what your instinct tells you to do as a mommy. Always listen to advice but you are mommy, listen to yourself first. You will always know what's best for him over anyone else!

My daughter is 18 months and in a big girl bed. I think she is more than ready. Further more if your son is going to be a little monkey and try to climb it sounds like he could really get hurt. I think the people telling you other wise are old fashioned.

If a baby is old enough to jump out of the crib then they should be in a toddler bed! All of my kids could escape their crib by 18 months and i didn't want them to break a leg or something so the first time i caught them climbing up over the rail was usually the last.

I think it is when ever you or the child feels comfortable. My daughter is almost 2 she still sleeps in a crib cause she don't like sleeping in her toddler bed. I should get safety rails for it maybe that would help. I think your fine tho.

I took both my kids out of the crib at around 18months. It just wasn't safe anymore (they were climbing in it). If your son likes his toddler bed and you are comfortable with him sleeping in it then by all means let him sleep in it.

each kid is different if he was trying to get out and had one leg over he was probably ready. its better to be in a toddler bed were if he were to fall out he wouldnt get hurt like he would falling out of his crib. we had my stepson in a toddler bed alittle before 20months for the same reason and he was just fine

We just bought a toddler bed for our daughter today. She is 16 month old and has gotten out of her crib. At daycare she refuses to sleep in a crib and now that she has gotten out of her crib at home she doesnt want to go in it. I think every child is different and I do not think there is a right or wrong answer to this. Our son we waited until his 2nd birthday. My husband and I agree that it is better that they fall out of a toddler bed than out of the crib. Good Luck! :)

I think as soon as they learn how to get out of the crib, it's time for a toddler bed. What's the point in a crib if they can get out of it? It's just a dangerous situation. It's them telling you it's time for a big kid bed.

I think that when they start to climb out of the crib it is a good time to switch to a toddler bed.

Toddler beds are good for little ones that climb because they are lower to the ground. I think you did the safe right thing!! My little girl was in a toddler bed before she was two as well.
