I hated taking birth control pills, too, so for a while we used condoms, and now I'm doing Fertility Awareness Method, which is shockingly easy. I read the book and chart a little bit every day, and it's amazing to me how unmysterious all the reproductive organs actually are. It sounds like it's a bit more difficult to do FAM when you're breastfeeding, but not impossible.

With breast feeding there aren't a lot of options as the hormones in most birth controls can mess with your milk supply. I have an IUD (mirena) which I am very happy with. My doctor actually told me it is more effective than having your tubes tied or a vasectomy. You have it inserted directly into your uterus by your OBGYN and it stays there for 5 years or until you are ready to have more kids. Apparently a lot of people find it slightly painful to have it inserted but I found it no more unpleasant than a pap smear. There aren't a lot of side affects that go along with it and I haven't had any (but don't generally get side affects from anything so you might want to take a look online for that information) except that I have less periods which is one of the more common ones. I know that it is okay while you are breastfeeding too.
