My mom gave me the best tip- you take regular flour and brown it in a skillet- just put a handful into a skilllet, and heat it up- stir it to prevent burning. Then once brown, let it cool and use it instead of baby powder- it cleared up my son's rash in one diaper change!

You can try cortisone creams...that's usually what the doctors will prescribe, but you can also try plain yogurt.  The bacteria in it, kills the germs, and helps clear up the rash...it's an old cure.  Hope you get it all cleared up :)

Epsom salt and warm water bath worked great for my son, Keep diaper off and let rash get lots of fresh air, and I use petrolium jelly to keep it coated! GOOD LUCK!!

I actually just took my three month old to the Dr. this week due to a terrible diaper rash he has...she said of course to change him as frequently as possible, keep it dry, and use either the beaudreaux butt paste or the original desitin. The key is to get something on their bum that creates a lasting barrier between it and the irritant (in our case, poo)

she also prescribed us a topical ointment for burn to put on underneath the diaper cream because he had some raw spots.

Hi! I don't know how others will feel about this advice but my little one had a really bad rash and I tried everything!!!! I tried the creams and the zinc oxide and it seemed to help a little but it didn't take it away so I tried using baby powder and haven't had a problem ever since then. It didn't really make sens eto me to put something creamy and wet to keep the bum dry and from getting a rash, but the powder dries it and keeps it dry til she wets it again. Just my opinion, especially if it's a bad rash like my little girl's. You just have to be sure to put the powder in your hand away from the baby, and try not to let it get in the air at all. I had no problems with that, you just ahve to be careful. Just a thought if the creams don't work for you either. Cheers!!

I was told to sprinkle a little bit of baking soda in a warm bath....I use about 1/2 cup in a regular bathtub. I dries it up and soothes their bottom!! I promise it works.

i had the same thing with my twins when they were really little and i took them to the doctor and it ended up not being a diaper rash.. it was a YEAST infection. I had to get a perscription cream to get rid of it. So if it doesnt clear with regualr.. try to use a wash cloth and knock off the wipes for awhile cause that will irritate it. And then take them to the doctor.. it might need something stronger...

I was just going to suggst 'Sudocrem'. It looks like I'm not the first! It's always worked for me, rashes have always cleared up in no time. Another thing I would suggest is maybe seeing a doctor. My son, who's nearly 10 now, had a really bad rash and we found out it was thrush, which I thought was only a rash a child would get in their mouth... neither is pleasant, but it was good to get rid of the problem. Another way I try to avoid rashes is to make sure my baby is alway dry before putting on a diaper...

I have 4 kids and my 2 eldest used to get rashes quite often, I used pentaton cream and baby powder on top, (you blow most of it off) and the doctors recomend 'air' thought I am not sure I want to chance my child peeing everywhere! personal choice I suppose. GOOD LUCK!

This is a little tip from my mom that I use on my kids too. Put some baking soda in their bath. It doesn't hurt them a bit! It just soothes the area. Then I let my babies play without a diaper on for a while afterward. Sometimes I did this 3 or 4 times a day if it was really bad. When they were in a diaper I would lather the Desitin on. Also...don't let them stay in a diaper for very long. Even if all they did was pee in it once.....just keep changing the diapers a ton. This helps keep it dry too. The medicines I like are: Desitin and Balmex. Some kids are allergic to the perfumed wipes so stay away from those if its happening a lot. None of this worked on my sister's baby so she just put vaseline on her little guy and it cleared it right up! Every kid is different so just try everything.

I used everything that I could think of and the best thing that I found is Lotrimin for jock itch. You can get it at any drugstore or grocery pharmacy but make sure that you don't get the one that is for the atheletes foot. Use that and rotate from that to aquaphor as well as letting the little one run around for as long as possible after bathtime without a diaper. Oh and I know this sounds a little weird, don't worry the doctor recommended this when my oldest son was very young, so try that and see if it works.

You may want to re-evaluate what you are using, now. My kids are all alergic to Desitin and it make thier diaper rash much worse.

Also they have had yeast infections on thier butt, which looked like a really bad diaper rash, I had to get special meds to clear that up.

Last try some good old fashioned air time, if it is really a diaper rash then air, it being dry and clean will help it cmear itself up.

Hope your little one gets over the diaper rash quickly.

Have you taken your child to the doctor yet? I thought my daughter was just having a normal diaper rash instead it was a type of yeast infection they can get, no matter how much you clean down there. The cream the doctor gave me has work wonders. I always use it if i notice it is creeping back. Hope you find something that works.

My son suffers from really really bad nappy rash, so bad he bleeds...It didnt nessasarily come at teething time. One nappy change would be soft gorgous baby bum, then next it would be bloody and horrible... We have been to countless doctors and chemists. I have that many bottle of cream in my cupboard i could supply the chemists!!! I was reading a parenting magazine and saw a ad for HYDROZOLE. I gave it a go, it worked great for my son. I used it every couple nappy changes, not everytime, then in between i used SUDO CREAM and put it on really thick. I feel for you, it can be so irritating and uncomfortable for your child. Goodluck, i hope you find something for your bub. xxx

I know you have had alot of moms telling you different things.   And many of them work wonders.  it all depends on your situation and your childs skin type.  My daughter has sensetive skin and i have found that  Original Desetin works the best. it is thicker than the creamy stuff.  on the other hand with my son nothing works.  the only thing that helps him is to let him go diaperless.  and to make sure their little butt is fully dry before closing up that diaper. and change them as soon as they wet.  check them every 1/2 hour.

A good home remedy my mom taught me was just put Baking soda into the bath water. I put quite a bit in. It helps dry the rash out. keep you child in the bath water for as long as they will stay in and give them a couple baths a day if you need too. It really works. Also air....leave them diaper less for awhile. As gross as that can get!

I've used Butt Paste & Desitin, but my daughter when she was only a month old had it really bad and neither of these propducts worked. And I was changing her almost every hour. When we went to the check up the doc had a prescription made up for her. I'm sorry that I don't remember the name, but 24 hours of putting that on her butt every time I changed her and she was good to go. I suggest talking to the doc, your little one may have an infection. Sophie also had Thrush, I had no clue what that was or that it even existed until he told me abou it.

The best diaper rash cream I have used is Burt's Bee's or Weleda, both available at Target and Publix I think. They have worked better for my kids rashes than prescription creams, even for a yeast rash. If it is a recurring thing for your kid though, you might want to look into the possiblity of it being caused by a food allergy in which case the cream is only going ease it temporarily. Hope it gets better soon!

I agree with the previous post. Kids are prone to yeast infections because the skin is moist and warm in that area. I would suggest that you ask the doctor about a medicine called nystatin. It worked great for my kids. It is an antifungal cream. I have used it on my kids at a very young age. Good Luck with that.

my daughter always gets a horrible rash when teething & I find canesten cream mixed with mild zinc cream works wonders.  This was actually an idea given to me by my family Dr, who has two kids.  He told me children under the age of 3 are often prone to yeast infections of the skin, mostly due to skin having contact w/ urine & feces.

Hi everyone, my son very rarely gets nappy rash anymore. In the summer when he was about 6-10 months old he would get quite a few but i let him play with his nappy off for an hour or two everyday even if he didn't have a rash. I have used Curash, Sudocrem, Bepantham, Vasalene, Stuff from the chemist over the counter but nothing kept it away. So I used All natural Paw Paw Ointment which I use on myself for cuts, burns, bites etc and it says for nappy rash as well so i gave it a go and my son will be 2 in April this yr and has not had a nappy rash for a very long time. I was bought up by my mum to use ointment every change but every body is different. I don't do it every change now that he is older only when i see the slightest tinge of dark pink i'll use it and it's all natural which is even better and the next change there is no sign of it. You can buy it from woolworths or the chemist just off the shelf. Try it, It really works and is the best thing for diaper rash.

I put it on and the next time i change her diaper the rash is gone. its expensive but so worth it. They sell it at Walmart too for cheaper.

Desatin, Zincofax (this was reccomended by nurses in the NICU while my little guys were in there) or just plain old air (let your little one lay on their tummy with no diaper on (just be sure to lay a blanket or a towel under them). The oxygen will heal the rash. If you choose not to use that option, as I have myself, I've found Zincofax works the best for diaper rash. It's really high concentrated with Zinc (35%)  which is one of the highest counts you can find in a diaper rash cream.

I have always used A and D ointment on my kids diaper rashes.  But my youngest  daughter got them so frequently and it would get so raw, and the A and D did nothing.  I brought her to her pedi and he told me to use Lotrimin.  So I went to CVS and looked everywhere in the baby isle and couldn't find it, so I asked the pharmacist.  She told me it was an antifungal cream for feet.  So I got it and it worked wonders.  I was amazed!  It is the best thing for diaper rash when nothing else works!

My baby tends to get a pretty horrible diaper rash when teething. I find really that the best thing for diaper rash is to simply allow her to go for bits of time with no diaper. Then I put lather her up in Desitin when I put her clean diaper back on.

Quoting April:

What is the best thing for a really bad diaper rash? I have tried all kinds of medicine and it won't clear up!

I had the same problem with my daughter at two months. I bought about every diaper rash cream out there.  I spent over fifty dollars on creams. Took my daughter to the doctor.  The whole time my mother and mother in law kept telling me to try corn starch.  This idea was rediculous to me.  Finally after three weeks I tried it.  It cleared up in about three days. Corn starch is the best thing for diaper rash. Do you know how much corn starch is?  99 cents.  Sometimes the weird cures work.

Auqaphor is the best thing for diaper rash. It creates a 'barrier' between the skin and moisture. The diaper creams used to burn my sons skin!!! and the vaseline wasn't working... I would smear the aquaphor on and sometimes let him run around without his diaper on... lol

The best thing for diaper rash is air, let their little bums air out. If they are not mobile yet but a few towels under them and just let them go naked. We also used baby powder, or corn starch, no creams they tend to lock in moisture, where as a powder of some sort will absorb it. I hope you find some thing that works
