What is your experience with belly button rings and pregnancy?

Kept mine in the whole time I was pregnant even during delivery. Never had any issues with it.

I am about the same size as you and I also had a belly ring with my first pregnancy. I also really wanted to keep it so I got the flexable pregnancy belly ring and thought I was good to go. However, as I got bigger, about 7 and 1/2 months I bumped the area (which by that point really starts to stick out!) and eventually, even though I did everything I could, the skin started to wear away and I could see the ring through the skin. I eventually had to take out the ring, I waited as long as I could, but it was inevitable. I do now have a scar, worse then if I would have taken it out to start with. My advice to you though, is to see how it goes. I have a very physical job and I bumped it at work. Maybe yours will be okay. My doctor told me there was no problems leaving it in (until I injured it obviously). Good luck!

Hey I had my belly button pierced for about three years before I got pregnant with my first. I waited until i was about three months prego to take it out. I have the biggest scar - I actually am going in for suregery in a couple months to get it taken care of. It looks like I have two belly buttons!!!! My advice is that you take it out as soon as possible!!!!!!!!!! Not trying to scare ya - just trying to give some good advice to prevent what happened to me. I am about 5'3 and weighed about 117 pounds - but gained about 45 at full term....

I was in the same boat when I was pregnant with my son a little over a year ago. I have had my belly button pierced for almost 7 years now, and had no trouble keeping my piercing throuhg the pregnancy. I am 5'6 and was 109 lbs at 12 weeks pregnant. I ended up taking out my regular jewelery at about 8.5 months pregnant and did not use a retainer. Actually the reason I took it out was that my giant pregnant belly looked even stranger with a belly button ring protruding from it.  I put the ring back in after I gave birth and never had a problem. Now my son is 14 months old and I wear my jewlery occasionally, but have started to take it out on occassion for fear of my son trying to pull it out.

I had mine done about 4 or 5 years before I got pregnant with my son and kept it in until he was born (c section).  He's now 20 months and I just never got around to putting it back in.  Mine never really streched or anything.  No one ever suggested I take it out until I was about to go in for my c section, but they make you take out ALL piercings.  The last few months my son has started into lifting shirts to blow on bellies, for that reason I am so happy i never put it back in, he has enough fun trying to get my tattoo off my back i can just imagine what he would be like with a belly button ring.

with both of my pregnancies i was able to keep it in the whole time and not remove it at all. i didnt even take it out for labor and i had no problems what so ever with it staying in (it was also a barbell that i had in, not a hoop or a flexible retainer) so basically keep it in as long as its comfortable for you.

I gave birth nearly 5months ago. My belly button was pierce 3 or so years ago. I took mine out during my pregnancy and put it back in after no problem.

With my first son I had to remove it at like 4 months....it closed in teh center a lil but I had only had it 2yrs...no scaring. With my second son i left both (top and bottom) in til the very end...I walked in the hospital with them. Man the nurses thought I was nuts. I did get the pregnancy one for the bottom since I only had it for about a year...no scaring! But I am a lucky one that doesnt really have any stretch marks....all I can thank from that is lots and lots and lots of coco butter........oh and vitamin E, those things are a must have for pregnant women!! Hope your pregnancy is going great!

i am the same height as u and same weight my hole stretched out and i cant really where it anymore the hole is like big and it looks like it could rip really easily! i had taken it out cuz it was tugging on my shirts when i was pregnant and i have no scar its just stretched out =(

I could keep mine in for the majority of the time I was pregnant, I did take it out when I was about 6 mo. pregnant just so it wouldn't stretch, but I have been able to put it back in and it's just fine

i am pregnant with my 5th and i took it out with my first very late in the pregnacy like 8mths and it scarred instatly as i had left it to long

take out early or leave in had no other problems leaving it in with all other pregnancys

I kept mine in the whole time, except for the c-section..:) My midwife suggested that if it started to bother me to put fishing line threw it! She said that this worked really well for most mommies to be!

With mine I took the ring out at about 5 months, I could just start to see it poking through my shirts. I really didn't care if I could get it back in or not, but to my surprise, 2 days after my daughter was born I was able to just slide it back in. I didn't even know they made the retainer things.

I took mine out at 32 weeks and then just put it back in about a month ago. My baby was about 10 1/2 mos. No problem.

I had no problems with my ring and i had it for 10 years also. It is safe as long as it is comfortable. My boyfriend asked if I would take mine out because it looked "trashy". I protested for a long time but took it out at 8 1/2 months to make him happy. I never put anything in it like a retainer and was still able to put it back after my baby was born with no problems

When I had my son I had to take mine out when I was in the hospital. It had stretched out a bit from the pregnancy. I did get it re-pierced, and I do have a scar from the first piercing, but it's really no big deal.

Pregnancypiercings.com They sell these belly rings for pregnant women, Its great and you dont have to worry about stretching, tearing, and then its back to normal after birth and you can put your old ring back in.

i tried to keep mine for as long as i could but by seven months it was being pulled/rubbed by all of my clothes i took it out and would put it back in every week or so but after my daughter was born I left it out for a few weeks and it closed up :( And it had been pierced for 6 years...if it gets uncomfortable and you remove it just keep up with putting it back in so it doesnt close up!

i removed mine from day one. part where the bar goes in looks horrible now (cos of the stretching etc) im waiting for it to heal and its been ages (9months pregnancy+6months babies age lol)

I am about the same build as you and when I was pregnant with my 1st child I did take it out because I had these stretch marks appearing like crazy all over. I never did put it back in because I have these weird marks (stretch marks) that sort or resemble horns on the top of where my belly button ring was. It just didn't look right and the hole didn't really close up untill 2 years after that. You will most likely have a scar of some sort that will never go away but best of luck to ya!!

hey i got one of them flexible bars and i put it in before i started showing as i didnt want to irritate it later on and it was fine,i also creamed my belly so much with the pregnancy cocoa butter and baby oil,again before i started showin n thru out, towards the end i did take the bar out as my belly button stretched but cause i had it done for years it didnt close and i av no scar and no stretch marks, a happy results so make sure u put the bar in asap as it cud become sore with the stretchin,good luck x

I had one designed for pregnancy with my first son,i chose 2 keep it in despite being advised against it by the midwife.I should have listened 2 her as after i hit 5 months i got very big,very quick and got a stretch mark going over it and now ive lost the pregnancy weight,i have excess skin where the stretch mark is.

I took mine out when I was around 4-5 months pregnant. It didn't scar at all and I was able to put it back in with no problems after my daughter was born.

I couldnt wear a belly button ring at all... once I started getting too big, it just tore. So now, unfortunatly, I have this horrible looking flap of skin where my belly ring used to sit. My advice to anyone with a belly ring is to take it out as soon as you start getting a noticable belly!

i had mine done 4 8 yrs wen i got pregnant an put 1 ov those plasic pregnant bars in the whole time but i left the balls off eaither side wen i got a bump an it just sat round me tummy an i put 3 an a half stone on! an i put my gold 1 bk in wen by tummy went bk down enough 2 fit it bk in! i found it no probs but i did get a stech mark but once my old bar was bk in after i had my son u cudnt tell x x x

I took mine out from 3 months on and it went right back in after I gave birth. I doubt yours will close up either now that you've had it for over 10 years.

My cousin had one... she just got a special ring for pregnancy and kept it in.... You just might have a little extra scaring then normal in that area...kinda like an extra stretch mark.

I did mine myself too, it also ripped out, but no scar, then I got it professionally done! lol...still have it and no scar!  Just stretch marks on my sides from not using cocoa butter! lol

I had to take mine out, only because they were so big.  After I had them I thought for sure it would have been closed, but shockingly it wasnt!...I wore it til it hurt to have it in any more, then I took it out.  But mine never closed!

Hi there. I had my belly button pierced when i was 20 and had my first child when i was 22, and i left my bar in till 2 days before i had my daughter and put it back in 2 weeks later, took it out on because i didnt want it falling out in the hospital, i had 2 little strech marks near where the bar was that as my mum says resemble devil horns, funny. With my second child i took it out the morning i went into labour with my son, and put it back in the next day. The hole never closes over as it isnt an open wound, so no matter how long you have it out you should be fine....

I never used one of the flexi-pregnancy bars so i cant help there, i had all original bars in mine till recently and i know have a eyebrow bar in it. Feels more comfortable.

I've had mine pierced for about 10 years also. I kept it in with my first until five weeks to go and only took it out because my family nagged at me to do so but had no trouble putting it back in. With my second i had to take it out with about nine weeks to go because it started to pull a little but i was bigger with my second, i didn't have any probs with putting it back in again. I am currently 32 weeks with my third and still have it in with no probs. As for the scarring i haven't had any trouble apart from a couple of tiny stretch marks at the pierce site that i got with my second, you can't even tell they're there now though.

I kept my belly ring in for almost 8 months with my second child. (i didn;t have one with my first) I finally only took it out when my belly button popped cause it was uncomfortable. With this pregnancy I have had it out basically from day one not really cause of the pregnancy as much as the fact that my 22 month old likes to pull up my shirt and tug at it. But I have tried to put it back in a few times (just to see if the hole closed in) and I have not had any problems. And I have only had it for about 5 years. So I would say that if you have had yours for 10 years you should probably be safe from it closing if you want to take it out at any point in the pregnancy.

As for the scarring I can't really help you with that one cause when I was 15 and stupid I pierced my belly button myself and it was ripped out so I already had a scar there.

I AM SHORT- 5'2'' AND HAVE HAD MINE PIERCED FOR ALOT OF YEARS, MINE IS ACTUALLY ON THE BOTTOM, BUT I WAS ABLE TO KEEP IT IN FOR MOST OF MY FIRST PREGNANCY. AND I GAINED 62 LBS. I AM ON NUMBER TWO AT 6 WKS, AND STILL OK. I NEVER ACTUALLY TRIED THE PLASTC RETAINERS, I ALWAYS USED MY METAL ONE, SO IDK ABOUT HOW THEY WORK.

With my first I had no issues with it. Every once and awhile I would take it out and just put it back in because it would sort of feel like it was pulling. With my second, my son some how managed to step on my belly and then it while I was laying on the bed. It pulled it and was extremely sore and I think it must have ripped a little or something because it got a scab. At that point I took it out and then put it in after the baby arrived.
