What kinds of food...

What kinds of food did you start feeding your baby to get them off of baby food? My son is 11 months old, so I need to start getting him off of the jarred baby food. He won't eat much table food yet. He likes chicken nuggets. I have tried giving him fresh vegetables and fruit and he doesn't like any of it much. What are some easy foods for most babies to eat? What did your kids like at that age?

Also-How many meals were you feeding your babies at this age. How often did they eat? Did you feed them on your schedule or on their own baby schedule? I would really like to get to the point where my son is eating with the family and eating what we eat.

Oh I forgot also try adding cheese to his veggies. Our son loves his broccoli that way and will eat a ton of it!

We never fed our son baby food. When our son was eating pureed like baby foods it was food that I homemade. Like fresh steamed pureed veggies and pureed fruits as well. Maybe you could try pureed table foods but leave them on the chunky side to start the weaning process. That way the foods are still a bit like baby food but have the taste of table food. Then start leaving it chunkier and chunkier until he's eating table foods. When our son was 11 months he was eating what we ate for the most part just cut into smaller bite size pieces. Good luck!

Thats awesome Jennifer! Thanks for the input. I love to try to give my son cooked vegetables whenever I make them with dinner for my fiance and myself. He hasn't liked any of it so far, but I do keep trying. I like to show him that I am eating it, so he should too. Even with fruit, like bananas - I have NEVER liked bananas, but I will eat them and try to get him to eat with me to show him its "good" (even though I HATE it lol)

My son LOVED long green beans and steamed baby carrots and squash and zuchini sticks. I just cut everything into easy to hold "french fry" style pieces and he just kept eating. I did let him dip his food in whatever he wanted (plain yogurt works great). I also never fed my kids the jarred food, he may just not be used to the taste of 'real' food because that jarred stuff does not taste like the actual food. In my opinion you should just keep exposing him to different foods. My son will be four next week and he just in the past month decided he liked tomatoes which he has been exposed to almost every day for the past 3 years. Don't let him get started on fried junk and the easy foods. Start him off with good healthy foods and you can trust that he will continue to make good healthy choices, even at 3 my son will choose whatever is healthy over eating crap, even if all his friends are eating it.
