I went for another ultrasound on the 25th and wanted to confirm the sex of my baby and im so happy that its a little girl! she was being absolutly cute by being literally folded in half with her head up. she was resting but good lord it was so adorable!

Also i have to go for some blood work to find out if i have gestational diabetes. Im still kind of worried about this but will know everything will work out in the end. If it comes down to it i may end up having to have a change in diet and will have to get blood work often and constant monitoring of baby. Im fine with this, im sure ultrasounds will be included in this as well, and will probably have to go for weekly doctor visits? any advice would be appreciated!

Congratulations on your baby girl! The way it worked when I did it was that they take your blood, make you drink a sugary drink in less than five minutes then you sit around for an hour and they take your blood again. If the results come back in a certain range they will retest you. The retest is basically the same thing but they take your blood when you get there, you drink the drink, wait an hour, take your blood again, wait another hour and take your blood a third time. My advice would be to confirm with your doctor the "rules" for before you take the test! My doctors never told me anything so when I went for the test I had been eating (mostly sweets since that's what I craved), took the test and it came back high. They told me there was no point in sending me for the retest because it was that high even though I asked numerous times to be retested. They started treating me as if I had gestational diabetes and I had to take my blood sugars four times a day. Finally, I switched doctors and they agreed to send me for the second test. Surprise, surprise I didn't even have gestational diabetes. Hopefully your doctors are better than mine and your results come back fine!

I didn't have to drink it once an hour for 3 hours. I had to fast after midnight then I got to the Dr. around 830 am. I drank the orange soda stuff once, waited an hour, then they drew my blood and I was done. The only time my Dr. does further testing, which then it is 3 hrs, is if your first glucose test comes back abnormal. Then they do the 3 hour testing.. All drs are different though..Good luck:)

I had to have that test too, it sucks. I ended up not having gestational diabetes, but I can tell you about the blood work. You're not allowed to eat or drink anything other than water all day until you're finished with the testing, so try to make your appointment early! They will give you this orange-soda type stuff to drink three times, once an hour, and then take your blood after. I'd bring a book or something because waiting around a hospital for 3 hours with no food is extremely frustrating! Good luck :)

I had to go through the 4 hour blood work, but it turned out I didn't have it. It was just precautionary, because my blood sugar was a little high. I hope you don't have to deal with that, but if you do, you'll be fine. Anything for baby, right?!

The test totally sucks and though sometimes people don't have any symptoms its alot more likely you would have them one of the biggest ones is that you throw up alot more through your pregnancy especially after eating fatty food like take aways. Just remember that this diabetes only last through your pregnancy and very very rarely afterwards so just think of it as a very strict healthy diet to help keep you baby well :)

Hi.. If you do end up having gestational diabetes, then yes your diet will change and more than likely you will be taught how to monitor your blood at home unless you are having a real hard time keeping your numbers under control. You will have a few more drs visits then normal, and they will watch the baby's size because it is common for babies to be large when the mother has diabetes. Just wait till you get your results and try not to worry about it till you hear them. And remember your dr will walk you through it all.. Good luck:)
