Alex was born with so much hair and in the 8 months it has grown so much! I don't want to do it ... but I think I am going to have to ... cut his hair!! :(

It is growing all over his ears and he looks like a bogan (but cute). How do I do it? I want the sides gone, but I don't want it to look stupid. And how about the back? Is it better to buy clippers/razor and just give him a buzz all over? How did everyone else do it?

I gave my second son his first hair cut at 8 1/2 months. Pulled out our clippers, used the longest setting and did it. If he had been a girl we could have used clips to keep it out of his eyes/face but his bangs were down to his nose!. I have never heard that you CAN'T cut before 1 year just that most mos prefer to wait.

I was raised that it's bad luck to cut a baby's hair before they are 1. My daughter was 2 when I finally cut it. I couldn't stand how uneven it was. Plus kid's shampoo dried it out.

My son is a weel away from 15 months and I just cut the back of his hair for the first time. I have cut his several times the first time the was down to his nose and I just kept swooping them to the side. His hair is thicker on top and thin at the back? I figured if I cut the back maybe it would come back thicker who knows? Anyhow I tapered it looks super cute. I had no choice it was so thin at the back and was scraggly looking.

My son was blessed with a full set of hair. We took him to WDW to get his first hair cut. We requested for it just to be clipped so the buzzing would not scare him. He was great! No hassels. Dont forget the camera! ;)

I took my daughter to the hairdresser to get hers done. There are even hairdressers around that specialise in infant and childrens haircuts - if you arent comfortable doing it yourself. If you are I have no suggestions - mostly because I wasnt!

Hi Michelle. By the word 'Bogan' I assumed your in Australia. I am too. If there is a Just Cuts place near you take your son there. They do 1st cuts for free and put his hair in an envelope for you to keep. I get both my boys hair cuts done there and they're good. They even have a Wiggles cover for the kids to keep them distracted and they love it.

I have a little girl. She got her first hair cut at 15 months because it was in her eyes and over her ears. We went to a super cuts and they cut it for us and CHARGED us for a bangs cut. I couldn't believe we got charged when I read about so many other places doing first cuts for free. After going s second time and getting charged for a full kids cut, we let my mother in law cut her hair. She has a kit and we just wet my daughter's hair and trim her bangs and shape the front. We did go ahead and straighten the back this last time so that it would grow in straight.

At your son's age your probably just better off trimming his bangs and leaving it at that for a little while longer. When his hair gets really long and thicker you could buzz it.

Well my opinion is that you don't cut a baby's hair until after 1yrs old.

For my boys first cut we did it ourselves and just trimmed around their ears and eyes.

Then for the second cut a few months later we took them to a real place, Its hard to find a good place to go, so you might have to check out a few ones before you like the way they cut his hair.

But remember it's all up to you, so go with your gut.

My girls had their first hair cut from a professional find a place that's just for kids were they will let him sit on your lap or take him to yours they'll trim him up and let you keep the first clippings!

We got our son's hair cut about 2 weeks after his 1st birthday. We took him to the same barber shop that his Daddy get his hair cut at and he did great! He's about due for another :) He has curls and I must admit it's hard to cut them but when his ears are covered by hair I just have to suck it up and cut it! :) Good luck!

my son was born with a ton of hair also and he got his first hair cut either at or before 1 mnth he has had as many if not more cuts than he is old he is now 17 months lol i think since your son is already about 8 or 9 months if you get someone else to cut it give him something like a sucker or his sippy/bottle i know with my son he freaks out now if you put the cape on him so we give him a sucker if i do a trim he laughs but its hard cuz he wants to see what is making him laugh just be prepared for him to freak out a little

I have heard that you are not supposed to cut a baby's hair until after they are one year old. I know of a little boy whose hair was growing in curly and his dad didn't like it so he buzzed his hair and now instead of soft baby hair it is coarse. : ( My little sister had a lot of hair when she was born, and my mom would just take scissors and cut around the edges until after her first birthday. That would be my suggestion...or maybe you could call a salon close by and ask what they think.

with my son we took him to the barber and just asked to do it the way it is but shorter with absolutley no change in style. They understood what i meant and did a really good job although once we started to get it cut it hasnt stopped. He got his 1st cut a little after he was 1 and he has had 4 or 5 in 8 months! Ask a hairdresser you trust or a baber and explain what you want and they should be able to help you.
