My daughter was 6 months when I had her ears pierced. She rubs her ears to soothe herself to sleep and we haven't had any problems with them. She's now a year old, the only thing I have to do is to make sure the earrings are safety back so she can't pull them out.

I DID IT WHEN SHE WAS ABOUT 1 MONTH OLD, BUT IN MEXICO, WHERE I LIVE, NURSES DO IT INMEDIATLY AT THE HOSPITAL WHEN THE BABY IS BORN . SO THEY DO NOT SUFFER. NOTHING HAPPENS, SHE MIGHT CRY BUT FOR A CUPLE OF MINUTES.

Hello! I now have 3 girls and I always get their ears done as soon as the piercing places let me, which is usually about 3 months old with up to date vaccinations.

I got Lexi's ears pierced at 6 months old. I personally believe it was the best time to get them done because she did not mess with them at all and now they don't bother her one bit and she just turned 2.

Right before her 1st birthday...and the only problem we encountered came when we changed the earings...we found out she was a little sensitive and her ears require real gold.

I agree with the mothers who are going to wait for their daughter to ask for pierced ears. I think piercing of any sort is a personal choice.

My daughter was 4 1/2. She had wanted to get them done on her 4th birthday becuase her cousin who was 4 had them pierced but she was too scared and it took 6 months for her to get up the courage. I have always had the opinion that she could decide when she was ready and I would not make that decision for her. It has worked out fine and she is proud of herself for making the decision to get them done when she was ready. Good Luck!

I got my daughters ear pierced when she was about 9months old, we didnt have any problems at all.She cried for a minute or two thats it. The younger the better i'd say! She is now 3yrs old and loves her earings especially new sets, she collects them in her Barbie jewellery box!

i think its a preference and sometimes a cultural thing, but if your going to get them done as a baby the younger the better. if you leave it too long i.e when the child is 1 your better off waiting until they understand a bit more not to keep touching them say aged 3.

I would have done my daughters sooner but she was in the hospital for the first 6 weeks of life.. but got hers done at 4 month and she has never pulled at them even with teething... most people say the younger the better.. one they will not remeber the pain.. i felt that if i waited for her she would end up only getting one ear done.. that and when i got my daughters done she didn't even cry not one little sound..

i agree, i think its cruel, the poor lil babies dont understand why they r getting metal things put in their ears and why it is hurting them and plus what if the baby doesnt want her ears peirced wen she is older i think its a good idea to wait untill she is old enuff to ask for them herself and to make sure she understands not to pull on them and how to care for them and most of all that it is going to hurt abit.

I agree! My daughter is 23 months and I have never felt comfortable with the idea of piercing her ears when she was so little. I don't think it's a bad thing to do, I just decided to wait till she was about 9, like my mom did.

my little girl was 8weeks when she had her ears pierced. she is now 11 months. she has never touched them or played with them and that was the very reason i had them done so early. she was very good with the pain...she cried for a few seconds and i think it was personally to do with the lady fiddling with her ears then the actual pain. the only 2 problems is now that she is growing they are becoming a little lop sided but nobody else seems to notice it and that the looks people give you and the remarks they say about them being so young.

We did my daughters at 6 months. There hasn't been any problems. I think that it all depends on the child. Today she is 4 and the only issue we have is what pair to put in her ears! Get her gold ones to start since most people are allergic to fake jewlry.

my daughter was 11months and i wanted 2 do it when she was 3 months but my husband wanted 2 wait so we did before she turned 1. i was pregnant at the time and i think it hurt me worse then it hurt my daughter. she cried and then the lady gave her a sucker and she forgot all about her ears. i think people think it is cruel but my daughter is 1 1/2 and she LOVES her earings but i think the earlier the better i would do it at 3 months

7 weeks old. She has never messed with them and they don't bother her in the least because they've been done for so long that she doesn't notice them. It's almost like they are a "part" of her. she's 9 months old now and no problems what so ever.

My daughter is 19 months and I don't plan to get her ears pierced until she is old enough to care for them herself. Probably not until she is at least 8 or 9. She had to get tubes put in her ears and she still pulls on them occassionally so I worry that pierced ears would have caused a problem. I don't feel it is a necessary thing to do to my child unless she wants them at a later date. She is beautiful without them!

If you're nervous about having them pierced at a shop in the mall as other Moms have stated, talk to your pediatrician. My daughter's doctor will be the one to pierce her ears if/when she gets it done, and everything will be clean and sterile.
Look, pierced ears are very common on little girls. It doesn't really fall into the body modification category as a pierced navel would and it poses no serious health risk to the child, unless of course you allow it to become infected. Yes, it is a beauty choice and if you choose to make the decision for her then I guess you ought to be prepared for the possible animosity that other Moms have mentioned.
In my opinion, (don't get up in arms, this is only MY opinion) if you are going to be angry about having your ears pierced without your consent, then shouldn't you logically be angry about being baptized without your consent? They are both life choices that we should be allowed to make on our own, right?
