When did your baby start to do "baby sit ups"??

My son will be 3 months old tomorrow. He has been pulling his head forward in his car seat and today he started doing what looks like baby sit ups. He is laying on his back on his play mat and is bringing his knees to his chest and his chin to his chest is the best way I can explain it. He is lifting his head and shoulders off of the play mat! Isn't this a bit early?! I also seen him hold on to the hanging toys w/both hands and trying to pull himself up. If I sit him up he will sit up unassisted for about a minute. I read numerous places that babies don't sit up until 7-9months, but it seems really late to me. My daughter is 4 yrs old so I feel like a new mommy all over again. I'm just wondering when your child started to do these "sit up" motions and how soon after they were able to sit up on their own.

Ok. Not sure why a few sites said 7-9 months, that is too late. I seen on baby center that it is infact 4-7 months which sounds much better!

my son was sitting up 100% on his own by 4.5 months. so i def dont think its too early! Good for your boy (yay) :)

my son is also doing the very same thing and he just turned four months last week!
