when did your LO walk?

My son walked at 9 months, but neither of my girls walked before their first birthday. They walked at 14 and 15 months. My oldest daughter was skinny, was always trying to fatten her up(even now!) but my youngest was a chunky monkey!! Don't think it made any difference, they both just loved to be held and carried, and they walked when they were ready!

my baby didn't start walking, pulling herself up, and ccordinating until after her first birthday a couple of weeks ago. She's healthy, happy, I was stressing for people comments, and you know what? Enjoy while you can, sooner that you think you'll find yourself chasing your baby all over and wondering where he gets the energy!! I'm sure your son is fine!

my daughter took her first step or two at 8 months and by 9 1/2 months was walking around the house..... shes 11 months now and she runs! lol. My sister on the other hand didnt even try to walk till 15 months. every baby is different.

Every book and professional will tell you "each baby is different". He will walk when he is ready, and as for the standing up unassisted he may just feel a little insecure about that just yet. My oldest daughter was taking steps alone at around 9 months, My 2nd child, my boy, would take steps on his own at 10 months but wouldn't walk with out something (hand, wall, couch, or toy even if it wasn't supporting his weight) until closer to a year old. My youngest, she was a determined one. She was/is small for her age and was meeting all the physical milestones early. She took her first steps (holding my hand) at 6 months, on her own at 7months. Oh the backaches that came with that - holding her hand to go for a walk, at 5'3" i had to hunch over.

My son was walking well at 8mo and my daughter at about 10mo. But a friend of ours, his son is 5 weeks younger than my daughter, and his boy didn't even start walking until about 16mo (super recently).
It really all depends on the child :) Just help and encourage, but don't push. Your little one will be running around in no time :)

My daughter took her first steps (5 steps) in the backyard of our new house the day before she turned 9months.

My son took his first steps about 8 months but I dont really count them, he started walking properly (walked for about a metre) when he was 9 months and 2 days. But I know some people whose kids didnt walk til way over a year old dont stress enjoy it my son is almost 21 months and has been full on running since 10 months and hasnt stopped since it is exhausting lol.

my daughter was solidly walking at 10 months old... but she is in more of a rare group... some children don't walk until 18 + months

My 1st started walkin at11months but my2nd didn't start till 14months.
My 1st took time walking bit by bit day by day. My 2nd took a few steps, then nothing for ages then a few. I went to my friends house & tryed to get um 2walk but wasn't having any of it then all of a sudden , got up walked across the room and has never looked back. As for standing, it's a sitting down then onto all fours then standing.
Best Peice of advice I was told / read about things like this was, (i had same worries about the timing on walking ) "your child will do everything they are surpossed to when they are ready, have you ever seen a adult still crawling because they don't know how to walk??? Have you ever seen a adult use there hands while eating because they don't know how to use cutlery??? Etc, etc.
Instead of worrying about who does what or when, concentrate on spending presious time enjoying your child because it passes by so so quickly? They will do it when there ready, not when someone says they should be ready. 9 times outa 10 parents like to tell white lies bout when there kids did things.figures and statistics don't matter in the slightest, your child is a individual and needs to be treated like one. Don't ever put to much pressure on them, have fun and enjoy."
And do you know what after I got that into my head I stopped worrying and alls perfect.
As for weight gain, no.1 it's better to have a little extra weight than be under weight. No.2 when they start walking and getting more active and start growing taller it will burn off, spread out. No.3 I'm sure if there was a real problem with the weight midwife/health visitor would of said something.
Please don't worry, it sounds like alls ok, and your doing a great job.

Boys can be awkward at the best of times, he's capable of standing and walking, whether alone or aided he can do it so you don't need to worry. You can't really compare a boy to a girl, it's proven that most boys will do all the physical activities before girls and most girls will do the mental activities before boys. My eldest boy was walking by a year old and my youngest boy didn't walk til about 14 months. This was unaided, assisted walking happened at 9 months for my eldest and somewhere around a year old with my other. Either way he'll do it when he's ready and will do it when nobody is watching, and unless you yourself are concerned about his weigh, or a health proffesional has expressed concern, don't worry. He needs some meat on his bOnes for his next stretch :D

my daughter starting around her first birthday.she really got the hang of it and pretty much starting running a week or 2 after her birthday.my daughter also had issues getting up by herself (without help from us or furniture) but she would start off holding on to the couch and would walk holding it til she got to the end and continued walking.

Each child is different. My daughter was taking her first steps by your sons age. My Mom was younger, my brother was older. Some kids are also more fearful than others and take longer to do it on their own. Don't worry!! He will walk on his own when he is ready. He sounds almost ready.

My daughter took her first steps shortly after 11 months and was walking all over the place around her 1st birthday. She started out taking 3 steps, then 6, then 15. I took her to the mall play place to let her play with the little kids and she started walking. Sometimes all they need is to see other children walking. Sounds like yours is doing fine!

Both of my kids walked at 15 1/2 months. (Two years apart). They both just stood up and walked across the room. On my son's first day, I was counting about 15 steps at a time, and he walked all the time after that. Some kids don't start walking until 18 months. Sounds like your son is doing just fine.

my daughter took a couple of steps around 11 months, and would do it occasionally from then on. It was on her first birthday though, that she decided she was going to walk full time. My son just started a few weeks ago, on Mother's Day, at 13 months. He had been standing by himself for a long time, and walking around the furnature or holding onto moving things (like his wagon) for a few months, but would not take a single step without holding on. Then on Mother's Day, he just took one that was deliberate (he had taken the odd one before then, but they were accidental and he didn't mean to) but he god stuck when he tried to transfer the balance to the other foot. He did the same thing again a few minutes later. Then suddenly, that afternoon, he just got up and took a step then managed the transfer to the other foot - and he was off! He took about 10 steps straight. Over the next week, he started walking as much as he was crawling. The week after that, he was walking more than he was crawling. And the week after that, he wasn't crawling at all anymore. He is now 14 months and walking full time. A little bit slower than his sister, even though I thought he'd do it earlier because I've been able to see since before he started crawling how badly he wanted to get up and go do the things that she does. But he just took his time and now he's doing a great job. He didn't take his first unassisted step until 13 months, and he's underweight, not overweight. They all do it in their own time, and 11.5 months is not "late". It's pretty average.

Hi there, I have an almost 8 month old boy and he is just starting to pull himself up on stuff like mainly the back of the couch when hes on the couch with me and is doing the army crawling thing so hes not really walking yet or even close to walking i dont think..... but withyour son, i know that every baby is different, and im pretty sure that his weight has nothing to do with him not being able to get himself up with our the aid of something. hes just tying to figure out how to get up to the standing position so that he can slowly learn how to walk . but im sure that he is fine and will start walking in the next few weeks and like i said, every baby is different. i hope that this helped

My daughter didn't walk unassisted until 16 months. Coincidentally, I didn't walk until 16 months either. =)
