i broke both of my kids from the bottle @ 1 yr...on their birthday...it was hard because they cried alot at night, but it only lasted like 3-6 days...you can try to start out around 8 months old giving him a sippy cup during the day and his bottle @ night, then switch to the sippy @ 1 yr.

My daughter will be 7 months on the 15th. I have tried giving her a sippy cup a few times but all she wants to do it chew on it. It's not too soon. And I wouldn't be worried that ur son not holding his bottle. My daughter knows how to hold it, she just won't!

Now is just fine. I've seen some cups in store at, Wal-mart,Target that list six months+ as the starting age. But you can't always go by that. If you think your babe is ready, give it a go.

My nephew didn't hold his bottle until he was a year old which sucked but he's now almost 3 and there isn't a thing wrong with him so no don't be concerned

My daughter is 6 mos and Im starting the sippy with her, but she hasnt quite understood the handle concept yet either. Im not worried. Just have it on the ground with him while hes playing, and just work on it with him every day, hell get it eventually, I really dont think you need to worry about it. Alot of people dont give their kids a sippy till their 8 mos.

My son is on WIC and they told me to start him at around 6 months he still isn't really into it much and you aren't supposed to give them more than on ounce of juice or water a day from what they told me. I started him out with a soft silcone sippy cup to ease him into using one

It is not too early. Most sippy cups have handles on each side, so maybe he'll be able to hold on better. Gerber makes a transition bottle/cup. You can put a bottle nipple in it or a soft spout like a cup and it's got the handles on it.

Well I started my son on the sippy cup at 6 months. We just started giving him the cup and he didn't want the bottle anymore. A good way to start is by watering down juice and milk in the bottle and putting the "GOOD STUFF" in the cup! My mom said it worked for my brother and I =)
