When is it Okay to start my baby on baby food??

Why do you want to fill her up? Introducing foods isn't for filling your baby up or even for nutritional benefits. She gets everything she needs from formula. Introducing foods is simply for experiencing textures and tastes. If your baby is digesting her formula easily ( which may mean fast) then that is a good thing. Id wait til six months.

myt twins are almost 11 weeks old and i have been doing cereal in their bottles since about 7 weeks old that helped a little with their reflux disease but in the past week they just have been incurably hungary taking 4 -6 oz bottles almost every hour and staying awake from 8am until almost 2am!!! i started doing some of the beachnut first foods (thats what ill eventually get on WIC) and they are finally happy. they have started taking naps again and are so much less fussy. my daughter can also actually poop normally now too which is a blessing cause shes bee misreable. i cant get it in quick enough for my daughter but my son is still kinda unsure about the whole thing.. i say use your best judgement and only start one food every few days to make sure theres no allergies.. you can talk to your pediatrician too but most of them say not before 4 months or older.. i think if the kids hungary then feed them!

I think it should be okay, if your child is still hungry even after the cereal, just make sure the child's doctor agrees. It's also best to try one new food every few days, because at this age it's can be hard to tell if they're allergic to anything and what it is, if you start feeding them more than one food right off the bat. So, best advice, try and stick to one food at a time, and if they do okay, try something else in 2 - 3 days, that way if your baby has an allergic reaction to any kind of food, you know what it is, and you can avoid it.

Thank you ladies!! I tried her on Berger first baby foods. she loves carrot's and sweet potatoes haha. but thank you, you helped a lot, and yes she is swallowing and lip smacking, and tries to steal food off my forks and spoons, so yes i think it is time!

every baby is different, there will be mums that say NO NO bad bad, and other that say yes.... I say listen to your baby, if you think she is ready then she is, lip smacking, swollowing while you are eating are all signs that she is... we started our son on purees at 3.5 months.... I got hell about it from other mums but bf every hour wasn't enough anymore, not to mention nights went from fab sleep to waking every hour for a feed. After solids all went back to normal. :)

My daughter got her first two teeth at 12 weeks and started using her tongue, so she started getting fruit baby food then. Also she had an issue with spit up and was on Enfimile AR so her formula was thicker, at this point she was eating 8 ounces and I would add 2 scoops of rice to each bottle. By the time she was 6 months she was getting 4 scoops formula 3 scoops rice, except at night then it was 4 and 4. I always have had an issue with weight so was concerned about how much she ate (my husband has the exact opposite problem and has issue gainging weight...he stays the right size but he wants to be a little bigger), but she is at the 50% and the Dr said its better for her to be full and not hungry because they grow sooooo fast. She is a year now and still eats a lot but is no where near chunky, she has her daddys metabolism...sorry for kind of rambling!!

i have 5 children and they were all prem babys and by 3 months they were all on solids cause i could never satisfy them but your health visitor and doc will tell u can not as i can upset there stomachs later on in life my eldest is 9 and she is ok and my youngest is 2 and hes fine it is up to u it is your child and if u think she is ready then give solids to her hope this helps
Little ones are always hungry. They should be eating ever couple hours with a period where they just wanna eat steady. Thats normal. But what I would consider is her weight is she obeese? My daughter ate constantly yet she stayed right on the 50 percentile for weight and height my son weighed 7, 11 at birth and by 2 months almost 28 lbs. He went from a normal sized baby to a round ball. . I was told by his dr to feed him. So I'd take her weight into consideration and talk to her dr or nurse.
