My baby will be 2 months old in three days. He seems to not be getting full from formula...He eats about 6oz every 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. How do I know when to feed baby cereal formula?

Gerber has a website that talks all about stages and how to tell which one your child is in. It will tell you when to feed baby cereal. If he watches you intently while your eating it may be time to start feeding him baby cereal. However, I've been reading more and more about new conclusive evidence that giving cereal in a bottle is not good. You can't do portion control and it leads to obesity among other things. If you do give it be sure it is in a bowl! The way I knew when to feed baby cereal to my Janalynn at 2 1/2 months, was she sat up while supported, she moved it back and forth with her tongue to swallow and did not spit it out and she could do a full push up, elbows straight, while on tummy time. Hope this helps some. GOOD LUCK !!

6 months is when to feed baby cereal..Bottom line. Your babies digestive system is not mature enough before that. Yes our parents may have fed us before this age but we are fortunate enough to be equiped with proper information and facts. You could cause a number of health issues. I urge you to wait for the sake of your baby. And whatever you do not place it in the bottle. Unless you want your baby to choke. Please research this. even though the doctor told me not to feed him cereal or baby food i did anyways. with my first son i started him on it when he was 1 month old and my second son even earlier. the bottle wasnt filling them up at all.

I started my son with rice cereal when he was 2 months. He was taking 4oz every two hours. I know lots of resources say not to before 4 months but you should do what feels right. With my first child I was definitely more rigid and everything by the book so I didn't give her any solids until 4 months but with Max I did what I felt was right for him and he never had Any problems except being a big boy but he's been that since he was in my belly. Remember anything you choose for you and your baby will be the best for you two.

I started giving my son a cereal bottle at night to help him sleep better aroung his third month. Your the mom it's up to you when to feed baby cereal. Don't be fooled by what the doctor says is best! Trust your instincts.

I had to put my son on it when he was about two months old because he was eating 4-6oz of formula every 2 hours. I only give him about a tablespoon and a half in his bottles right before bed, and it definitely helps him sleep longer through the night. I wouldn't rush it, and if he seems constipated, add more water to it to help flush his system.

I'd say your kiddo is normal. As long as he's eating every 3-4 hours he's right at track. My little one is 4 months old and I just started him on cereal/first foods about 3 weeks ago. He's only eating a little bit each day and is mainly still on the bottle and eating 6-8 ounces every 3-4 hours. TOTALLY normal =)

I gave mine cereal at about 3mo...don't rush it, it can constipate them if you do it too early. your baby's eating habits aren't that bad...I started mine on it because they were eating every 1.5 to 2 hours and it was all the time day and night. My advice is if you do, try it in the afternoon to see how your baby takes it...if they aren't ready they will definitley let you know! try like a tablespoon at a time and wait a day or two and see how they digest it...if they are ok, then do it at the same time everyday....and rice cereal is the best...good luck! :)

right now. you dont have to wait until someone else gives you permission. You are the mother, you know your child better than anyone else, that means doctors, nurses AND family members. I started feeding my son baby cereal when he let me know. he was sleeping through the nights, but started to wake up 2-3 times again, thats when i knew he needed more than just a bottle or breast milk. I think he was either 2 or 3 months old. thats why the stores carry beginner baby food. Dont let someone else tell you what to do, your the mom, you know whats best.

I started my son on rice cereal at 4 months. Doctors recommend 6 months but they do fine with it at 4 months. The signs to look for to know when your baby is ready for cereal/solids are they are atleast 4 months old, they have doubled their birth weight (and are atleast 13 pounds), can sit up with support, and open their mouth for a spoon. Hope this was helpful! :]

i know you think baby needs food but 2 months is much to early 6-8 months is the time...

you may just need to try a different formula...

talk to your midwife
