When to start on Stage 2 (solids)?

I am unsure when I can start on Stage 2 of solids. My little monkey has been eating at the first stage for about 3-4 weeks. I don't know if I should increase or add another fruit or veggie to each sitting before moving on.

In the morning he eats Rice cereal and bananas, then a bottle, nap, then a veggie, another bottle then cereal before he goes to sleep.

when they are 6 months old and can sit up without support it says it on the jar. i started my daughter on stage 2 but she didnt all of it so i took her back down to stage 1 so that she was getting full enough. i guess the best thing to do is just do it to ur best instict when u think he is ready

I started my son when he was 4 and half months. cuz a bottle was not good enough. i would feed him 8oz like every hour so i knew that he needed more. i started with baby rice in his bottles just so that he could taste it..and then after i just started to feed him baby food..like chicken beef all that good stuff..and he was fine with it..and now he is 9 months and only has 1 bottle of milk a day.. so i would say just try it and see if your child likes it...good luck

...i would suggest when he completely eats the jar or container...my son is 7 months and he is eating stage 2 but we just recently introduced him to stage 3...so he will eats a fruit[stage 2] in the morning, a veggie[stage 2] in the afternoon, and dinner[stage 3] in teh evening...

My daughter started rice cereal and solids at 4 months. She stayed on Stage 1 for two months. I did a tablespoon of cereal and half a jar of baby food, one fruit and one veggie each day! And of course the rest of her feedings were milk. She is now 6 months and her pediatrician said we could start Stage 2, but to still only do it twice a day, like I had been. Along with the milk, breastmilk or formula, they should be getting at least 20oz. per day still. It all depends on your baby though, some are more hungry. Is he on formula or breastmilk? I was told and it's true now that we started Stage 2, that 1 & 2 are the same consistency, just more variety with 2. Have you tried all the fruits and veggies in 1? Have you tried Oatmeal instead of Rice cereal? Best bet, check with the doctor...

Watch for him to be eating the whole jar or not seeming satisfied. If you think he could handle food that is a little thicker. Stage two isn't much different than stage one, just the consistance is different.

It sounds like you are doing good with what you are doing now. But if you are ready to try out more and move to stage 2 then give it a try. Just take things slow and your little one will let you know if they are ready or not. It doesn't hurt them to try it out. Give it a try and if your little one doesn't accept it or it doesn't agree with them then wait another couple of weeks and try it again. That is the best thing you can do. Hope I help in some way.

if you notice that he is eating the whole jar/container of the 1st stage foods then he might be ready to move up. I know that my daughter only stayed on 1st stages for about a month and was on 2nd stage food for awhile. I only gave her half a jar/container of the 2nd foods or half of two seperate foods. My daughter would have half a jar of fruit and cereal for breakfast followed by her 6 oz. bottle. Then half a jar of fruit and half a veggie for lunch also followed by a 6 oz. bottle then she had an 8 oz bottle for "snack time" and half a jar of veggie and cereal for dinner and an 8 oz night time bottle.

You can still introdude new foods after changing stages b/c in 2nd stage they add new things and they start mixing flavors. I would avoid meat until your baby is closer to 1.
