Hey there, does anyone know when you should start switching from formula to whole milk, I have a 9 month old, but I think it's still a little early.

After spending time working in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, and working for QH for almost five years now, I can safely say that NO dairy before 12months of age. Dairy before your child is 12 months of age can cause SERIOUS health issues for bubs, both now and when they are older. Unless you are unable to breastfeed, or your child is not responding well to formula or something similar to this, then dont give bubs ANY dairy - cheese, icecream, milk etc etc before 12 months. This isnt my opinion - this is the opinion of the people who have been researching this sort of thing for a long time, and DO know whats best!!!

I'm pretty sure the recommendation is one year, but I also think that is because there is a link to whole cows milk and asthma. However if there is no history of asthma in either you or his dad's family you are pretty safe to implement it slowly. I did with my boys because we lived on a dairy farm and had fresh milk every day. They thrived on it and have never had any health problems.

I started to give my daughter milk at 11 months. You have to make sure that you get him on it slowly. Also my doctor said that to make sure he is getting all of his nutritional needs.

I started mixing whole milk and formula at 11 months because I knew that by a year they should be on whole milk. I would add 2 oz of milk to the formula every week until there was only milk in my daughter's cup. I also eliminated the bottle at the same time I was eliminating formula.

I work at a daycare and we always reccommend that people make the cange at the 1 year mark. There are special nutrients in their formula that they should keep getting atleast until then

Hi its recommended to give formula as a drink until one year however start introducing whole milk on cereals and in cooking to get him used to the taste as you dont want him to become fussy and not drink whole milk when he is bigger its a pain!!

My son would NOT drink formula no matter what. I had to stop breastfeeding, I was starting to dry up, and my doctor told me that if he wont drink formula that whole milk was fine. He has been drinking in for about 3 months and he is fine. I think though that if they WILL drink formula that one year is the recommendation to switch to whole milk.

I have two boys they are 7 & 9 and when they were getting close to a year the doctor recommended implementing whole milk slowly. I think I would alternate and slowly introduce more whole milk than the formula. Hopefully that helps. Your baby is gorgeous by the way!
