Where is the line for hair coloring for a 22 year old mom?

I'll be 27 in November and my hair is currently dark purple and prior to that it was bright purple and teal! :) But I always have it done in a fairly stylish hair cut, then people seem to get over the color. Granted, I don't overly care what people think and my kids think my hair is cool. :)

I'm a 21 year old mom and I just dyed my hair dark auburn. I love it! It's pretty sane so I don't look like I've gone too overboard, but at the same time it still has an edge to it.

So, here's my advice...I get in these dull moods frequently and for some reason always go for the hair change first. You should dye your hair primarily a "normal" color found in nature but throw in some colors where you can see them if you wear your hair a certain way or if the light hits it just right. Maybe a chocolate brown with some red and copper shades throughout...and if you're feeling really daring you could throw in a few dark violet streaks on the interior layers...just so you know they are there. Then if you pull your hair partially up, you might be able to see them, but if you need to look "professional" or if you are in a conservative setting you can hide them. Also, since all moms get in these funks where we feel completely isolated and like we've lost ourselves...join some sort of group. Yoga once a week, or take a walk with a friend, or go to dinner, start reading inspirational books, do SOMETHING you feel good about that is just for you...or you will lose yourself! The best thing you can do as a mom is take care of yourself. If you don't take care of yourself, how can you be the best for your child?

hair color has nothing to do with being a good mom or what type of person u r. whats your kids faveorite color? go with that if u want, lol, i bet the kids would love it. but really, black, blue, brown red or pink, who cares?

I became a mom at 20. Im now 27. In those 7 yrs my hair has been almost every color under the sun. Currently it is light brown with red highlights. I had pink stripes in it before along with blue stripes, I had accidently got it turn orange right before halloween one year. That was funny. Its your hair, do what you want. Its all about your tastes so I cant really give you ideas on what to do since I dont know you lol.

im 22 and my hair is naturally almost black so in the next few days its going from shoulder length to super short and im getting pinck highlights sod what anyone else thinks its your body its all about how we express our personalities. yes i have 3 tattoos and i get looks for them but for me there my works of art i get to carry around with me instead of being a stuffy old hag who keeps theres indoors on walls lol.

I am feeling the exact same way as Tiffany. It's not that I think I'll embarrass my son (shoot I'm only 23), but I also feel I won't be taken as seriously as not only a younger mom, but also as someone who is currently seeking a good paying job. If I knew I could get any job regardless of my hair color, (and my MIL's constant criticism), my hair would be purple!

I know what you mean! I'm also 22 and have a 9 month old. I always love changing my hair color. If you have long hair I would do either a burgundy or brown ombré. They look so cool! Just because your a mom doesn't mean you have to be dull. I'm about to get a tattoo!!!

I am 33, been a mother since I was 17. My hair color is pretty much the only thing in the world that I get just for me. Everything else I have and am goes to the family. They kind of like it when I go all weird. Last year I was pink, purple and black (all at varying times). My husband has gone to work with my hair black and comes home to a smurf blue. Right now the top of my head is a deep red and the bottom is black. HAVE FUN! DON'T LET PEOPLE TELL YOU WHAT A "MOM" LOOKS LIKE! You get to define what a MOM looks like for yourself AND for others (the more moms play, the more other moms will see it as ok to play!) Hell, if I tried to look like the other moms in my neighborhood, I would be blonde with dark lowlights and wear cardigans everywhere! BLAH! Sooooooo, not for me! I'd rather be out in the backyard playing with the kids or painting some new project!

This is crazy Hun you are only 22. You are so young what are you worried about. Do whatever makes you feel good. I just turned 30 with 2 kids and one on the way. I have dark purple hair with a side shaved. I also have a tatt on my back, my nose pierced and my tongue. Tanya Broadley we seem to have a lot in common. Like you I have had every colour and have really played with my hair. I'm a hairdresser and I colour men and woman of all ages and they do all sorts of crazy things to their hair. I would add some highlights to it to add some dimension and if your feeling more adventurous add a few panels of different colours. I think you will be surprised at the reactions you get.

Just have fun please you are too young to worry about this stuff

I'm 30 with 2 kids and one of the way. I've had my hair black, red, red with blonde streaks, blonde, pink, all at different times since I was about 18. I also have 3 tats and a pierced tongue. I believe in doing what makes you happy and not caring what other people are going to think about it.

Color your hair whatever color you want. Your kids will always find something that you do that embarrasses them Just worry about what embarrasses you :-)

I'm a 33 year old stay at home mom. I too have done blond, red streaks (the fun kind, not the natural kind!) and got my nose pierced in June. In no way do I feel that I'm an embarassment to my children. I'm with Firebird, dye your hair whatever color you want!

If you're a person who can be taken seriously, it won't matter what your hair colour is because you'll have no trouble proving people wrong. You are the one who has to face the mirror. You are the one who has to be happy with what you see. At the end of the day, it's only hair.

My philosophy is to not do anything that I would be embarrassed if my Mom did it. I'm 28 and just try not to embarrass my kids. My oldest will let me know when I've gone too far. Other than that do whatever color or style suits your mood.

Not sure what you mean by "where is the line for hair colouring for a 22 year old mom". Dye your hair whatever colour you want. I'm a 27 year old mom and I dye my hair black. Last year and this year I've also had chunks of red, blue, green and purple added to the black. Not all at the same time though. lol
