I had an absolutely horrible experience with Mirena! I think the reason for my bad experience is because of my uterus. I have a extremely tipped uterus and also apparently your uterus has be a certain size etc. Also the Mirena must be put into a very specific position.

I had severe bleeding throughout the first three months..I am talking (TMI) blood running down my legs through my pants. I also felt movement in my lower abdomen and through the following 9 months I bled everytime I was with my husband.

I experienced loss of vision, migrains, and concentration was shot. I had to stop driving for six months because it was so bad, I also had to leave my job temporarily. I begged my family doctor to remove it (he did not insert it a gynocologist did two times) when he went to remove it, the string was not there he had to go fishing I almost had to be operated on because it would have perforated my uterus if I hadn't demanded it to be removed.

I will have you know that I had three ultrasounds during the time that I had it nothing seemed irregular.

I thought it would be an excellent form of birth control but I think this form is only good for certain women, make sure you do the research on the Mirena and they make sure you have the right uterus size etc and that you don't have any health issues which might be made worse with this product.

On another note I was on Ortho-Tricyclen for 5 years before I had my son who is now 3. I had absolutely no problem with it. I recommend it 100%

Depo-Provera shot should not be used beyond a short period of time say 1-3 years because it leads to osteoporosis. Which has been shown in many cases. Also, been known to be difficult to conceive quickly after you stop it.

Nuva-Ring- not as faithful as birth control pill. I know a few who've gotten pregnant.

I hope this info has helped you I have done extensive research on the different forms.

I am back myself to using the pill.

I hope you find the right form for your needs.

I have the Mirena and loving it!! I've had it for at least a good 3yrs now and it's amazing!! I havn't had any cramps or no side effects from it but all bodys are made different. I reccommend this to all my friends, it helps out especially if you are a busy on the go mom like I am. I would like to tell you to get it and try it out for 6 months to a 1yr and see how it does you and if don't like it then talk to your doctor and see what other method you can use and be comfortable with..Good Luck!!!

I have the Merina IUD and I love it... I had just the copper one for 5 years before this one and I am working on month three with it... I had a lot of spotting the first month when my cycle came around and my periods and AWESOME now that I have it... barely anything at all... I have a forgetting to take pills issue and I find it sooooo convenient. The only issue I am having with it is the cramps... I never had cramps before with the other IUD but this time I do... its only about a day and it can get really intense but once its over its a breeze... But for sure look around and see what is best for you!!!!

i had the mirena for 3 years. before that (between pregnancies) i had tried the pill, the patch (before it was unsafe), and copper-t iud. i loved the mirena! it helped lessen the burden of menstruation and of course i didn't have to maintain it in any way.

once you're done with kids for good, you might also want to look into the Essure procedure. hands down the best decision i made; a much safer, better, results-proven method than the tubal ligation.

your doctor might be pushing the IUD because of the ease of use with it, there is no remembering anything. no pill, no patch, no ring. 24/7 you are covered. a lot of mothers now are getting pregnant because they did forget to take a pill ( that's how i got my Hannah ). i LOVE merina. i have no pain, no cramping. it's bliss. and you can have it taken out whenever you want to have another kid, which we plan on doing in about 2 years. lol

I would recommend one that is called implanon. it is a little device that goes in your arm and stays there for three years. you can get it taken out at any time and you can get pregnant within days of getting it out

Personally I'm a huge fan of ParaGuard, which is a copper IUD that produces no hormones! It can last for 10 years, but if you decide to have another baby, you can have it removed and get pregnant right away. (I had mine for 4 years, had it removed and was pregnant 2 months later!) Personal preference and feelings should be what ultimately persuade you. Birth control's a very personal choice because everyone experiences different methods differently. For me, I'd never go on the pill because the hormones give me terrible migraines. Oh, and with the IUD there's no risk of heart attack, stroke or clotting like with the ring and the pill!

I use Otho Evra...hard to forget, but it only needs to be remembered once a week. One patch a week for 3 weeks, then nothing for the 4th...thats when the period comes. If your change day doesn't work, you can always pick another day to start it with the new month. Its kind of hard to believe, but it does stick pretty good...no matter what activity you might do. The only issue with Ortho Evra is that its most effective on certain body types, your doctor would be able to let you know if you have the right body type. But, like alot of people have said.....go with what makes you comfortable.

I got Mirena about a month after I had my daughter. She's almost 5 months old now and the spotting has thankfully stopped for the most part but it seemed to exacerbate my bleeding from labor. Every now and then I get sharp pains so I'm considering asking the doctor to remove it when I go back for my yearly in January. I've had a few friends tell me NuvaRing fell out when they had sex but it's different for everyone. Trial and error really, as I'm learning.

I have had the Merina for a full five years and at the begining of the year I got another one put in. I have had no problems with it at all. My periods were irregular before I got prego with my daughter and I can honestly say I have not had a period since I have had her. It cut my periods off and I love it. I hate having to worry about a pill or something I am not too good on timing with things like that. My aunt is the head nurse for my OBG and she recommended the Merina. I thank her everytime I see my family bc I see some military wives getting prego right after they have a baby. So I agree with the doc. If you dont like it you can get it taken out.

I'm not good at taking a pill every day. The Nuva Ring works wonders for me. It's easy to use, you don't need to go to a doctor to insert it, my cramps have lessened and you can't even feel it during sex. I had no side effects. Also, a guy I know hit a girl's IUD during sex and it was very painful for her. I'm also not a fan of not getting your period. Something seems unnatural about it.

I have the Merina IUD...love it. Had spotting for the 1st month and every once in a while, but fore the most part its cheaper, no birth control to pay for every month for 5yrs (quite nice), its easier than remember to take the pill every day, and I don't have a period 99% of the time. At first it was uncomfortable when having intercourse, but now its great and don't realize its there. I guess all in all its your preference, but its nice not worrying bout some things...

i got a copper spiral, it takes about 2 mins for the doc to insert (nice to have a good obgyn or lady doc you trust for that stuff) then you just forget about it!!! get it changed every 5 years. i loved it, got it taken out to get pregnant again ( i didnt feel a thing when she took it out and that only took like 10 secs!) and fell pregnant the 2nd month of trying! it took me 1 year on the dot to fall pregnant after taking the pill! i like it because its no hormones, and it was prefect while i breast fed my daughter. i highly reccomend it! cant feel it at all once its in or when you have sex, which i was a bit worried about at 1st, then you just forget its even there, you get your period and everything like normal but the only sight effect i had was a little more intense period pain which for me i found it to be worth it, but i think thats one reason some ppl dont like them, if you get really bad pain anyone these can make it a bit worse, but anywho....good luck. hope you find something that you like!

I have the mirena and I love it. I will have to admit that when I first had it put in I had a period for like 3mths. I wanted to cry and take it out. My doc told me that it was okay and that it would quit. I started taking Ibuprofen and it finally quit and I havent had a period since and no trouble out of it. Im glad that I went with this.

I got the Merina IUD about two months ago. So far I have had only about two out of the last eight weeks when i have not been at least spotting. I have cramps and pms it seems like all the time. I am thankful i don't have to worry about getting pregnant but if I would've known it was gonna be like this I probably would have opted for another method of birth control. I know everyone is different, and your doctor usually knows what's best, I hope you find a method that is best for you.

i highly recommend ortho evra, ive been on it for many years with no side effects, i even did the study on it for my doctor. i went off it for my first kid and again for my second with no problems concieving after i was off for a full month and its a patch that gets replaced once weekly, its easier to remember then the pills and especially with kids who likes picking and poking at stuff, it almost blends in with the skin and can be placed basically anywhere. my boyfriend took alot of comfort seeing it on my skin so he knew i wasnt forgetting pills or anything. i swears by it and so does several of my friends ive recommended it to

I definitely recommend Ortho Evra patch.... The pill made me gain weight, plus I'm not good at remembering to take a pill every day.  Ortho Evra stopped my weight gain and cleared up my skin and my moods stabilized.  I also didn't have any trouble conceiving very quickly after going off it.  I have never had any trouble with it falling off or coming loose, and I play a lot of sports and swim and love to soak in the tub.  I've recommended it to friends who also really like it.

I use the copper IUD it has a 98% failsafe (good enough for me!) and no hormones at all!

It has to be replaced every 5 years by a doctor, but other then that I've had no problems! And I love not being on hormones or having to remember anything for sex!

I have regular periods, but I'm okay with that.

The primary mode of action of the Mirena is to prevent sperm from reaching the egg through thickening the mucus. The secondary mode of action is to thin the uterine lining so that IF an egg should happen to be fertilized, the blastocyst will not be able to implant. Although technically not an "abortion," since a woman is not considered pregnant until implantation, it does destroy a fertilized egg, which to some is not ethically acceptable. I think it's important to be informed on all the aspects.

I know I can rely on it being effective for 5 years and all I have to do is go in every so often and have it checked out. I donthave to remember a pill, I wont gain MORE wieght from the shot, and I dont have to dig a ring out of my vagina (the nuvaring was truely a pain in the tushy, $20 everytime you need a new one then getting it in there perfectly, then getting it out... WHOA!) I think the mirena is great to atleast try for those of us who dont plan to have more children anytime soon. :)

The first year wasn't so great but after that it is wonderful, I only have a cycle every 3 months, I don't have to worry about remembering to take a pill or pay a doctor bill every 3 months for a depo. On the other hand certain sex positions like doggy style is painful so there are boundaries on sex positions lol. Hope this helps!

I have paragaurd which is a nonhormonal iud. I can have it in up to ten years, not that I will but that's kind of cool if you're looking for long lasting. I usually have a full 30 or so days between menstral cycles but the tend to last around 6 days and are heavier than when i was on the pill. I love the nonhormonal. I feel like myself. I do have cramps probably with every other period though. You just have to look at all your options like eveyone else has said.
