Whining!!

My son is 4 years old and whines like nobodies business. He wines about everything. I used to think that children who whined only did it because their parents would give in to them after a certain amount of time, but I never, not once give in to him. I give him the 1-2-3 implementation, and on 3 he always gets a time out which only makes him whine more. I tell him that his "time" in time-out doesn't start until he stops whining or crying and that makes him stop, so he does his time, then gets out and is whining again within 30 minutes about something else. It drives me up the wall. Just curious if anyone else has a compulsive whiner and how they deal.

my daughter is 3 1/2 and whines occassionaly but I just tell her "I don't understand you so if you want something stop whining and tell me nice"  She almost instantly stops whining/crying and puts on a cute little smile and asks for whatever it is she wanted me to do.

i've found that if i say to my son, "i can't understand you when you whine; can you ask the right way?" he usually catches on pretty quick

I heard once on the radio about a whining watch. You might google it. But they are supposed to wear and then if they whine, they have to wait till the time on the watch beeps... like two mins. and then they ask again without whining. if they whine again, start the time over. It is supposed to break them of it. I haven't bought the watch, but try the same principle of them waiting and then they may ask with a "self-controlled" voice.
