I'm curious how many young moms went to college. I had my first child at 21 and got my Bachelor's degree 3 months later. How many other young moms went the college route?

Quoting Sara:

All I meant by that was I have life experience that some 18 year old might not have therefore I truly appreciate my education. I have always done things backwards from the social norm: babies, marriage then school. It wasn't a personal attack on any young person in school or you so perhaps you shouldn't compare my statement w/ terrorism. You walk a day in my shoes ( cancer, broken back, cancer again, and a horrible upbringing riddled with drugs and abuse) before you tell me not to judge.

I was not directly comparing your situation to terrorism. I was stating an example that you cannot just lump a group of people with a common caracteristic in one catagory. The way you wrote your first comment came across like you were  lumping all 18 year olds into knowing less than education about you simply because they were "18". I was not judging your situation since I do not know you situation. I was simply stating that your comment sounded stereotypical and it was offensive. I am sorry to hear that you have gone through so many hardships. I will pray for you and your family.

I was in college when I became pregnant. Because my classes/field is sooo demanding, I had to take a leave of absence, and am unable to return until the next rotation.. a whole 9 months later. My husband is disabled, I work ONLY on the weekends. It is VERY nice to have both of us home to care for the baby together. :)

I have a Master's in Education in Kinesiology. My hubby and I met in undergrad and did our Master's together as well. We got married after we both completed our Master's and then had our first 2 years later. We now have a second who is 9 months old. I am a stay at home mom right now by choice. I want to know my children and enjoy their early years. I know it isn't something that everyone can do financially...I am blessed to have this opportunity. I sell Scentsy Candles to help bridge the gaps in our finances and do great at it. I love it and I can set my own hours. I will be going back to school in October to finish another degree. I look forward to it. If any moms want to earn some extra income....check out my website... www.serinabowen.scentsy.us

After the string of nowhere jobs that i took in order to be there for the most part with my first child, i decided to go back to school when I was 5 mos pregnant with my youngest. I should have an Associates in Diagnostic Medical Imaging and a Bachelors in Liberal Arts by the time my youngest hits kindergarten and plan on putting them both to use.

While I agree education is important - college education isnt necessarily what that means. Its how hard you want to work for what you want in life. Experience is the best education - the degree just gives you a different status. Of course there are certain j.o.bs that you need a degree in (doctors/nurses, etc.) -- but that doesn't mean time or financial freedom either.

I have a Bachelors and a Masters. I actually got pregnant my last year of my Masters and I am currently teaching at a local college. There's nothing wrong with using your education. There's also nothing wrong with having one and wanting to stay home. Either way, Good Job on finishing school!

Hi there! I was 19 when i fell pregnant and was half way through my degree in bachelor of law and bachelor of business. I went to university right up until i was 9 months pregnant! Sitting in class trying to fit my belly behind the small lecture tables proved to be a difficult task nevertheless i sat with my note pad on my knee lol. I attened class right up until the semester break and had him during the holidays only 3days later. I then switched to night class and went straight back to uni as soon as the break was over and my son was about 4weeks old. I persevered and did not defer or stop going to class beacuse i knew i was doing it for his future now too not just mine. I would study for exams with a text book in one hand and feeding the baby in the other. I graduated when he was 3 and i was just 22. My son was there for the ceremony sitting in the auditorium barracking the loudest for me....he was truely my biggest fan that night! I am now 23yrs and i am working as the business manager and marketing coordinator for a design and manufacturing company....My sons father and i recently got married and now we are trying for baby number 2, I am sooo proud of myself all the young mums who have completed their degrees or are doing so now, because it truly is such a huge accomplishment and you all deserve it. We are proof that it can be done and you can do it, no one ever said its easy, but i can promise you its worth it.

I dropped out twice. Got my life straight. Registered for school, then found out I was pregnant. Third time is a charm. I'm due in March and am just doing part time this semester and my brother and his wife will watch my son while I'm in class since I'm doing night class.

So everyone went to college. Now what. I have my Associate's degree in business. And basically is just one thing to add to my resume. It doesn't guarentee me a J.O.B., and it doesnt guarentee me success. It doesn't guarentee me anything - but 45 years of working my life away for someone else's success. I am now doing something that i love. And for my own success, my family.

What about us? Entrepreneurs? I think we are just as hardworking - dedicated, and strong - I give up and sacrifice some of my time and money - so that i can have time and money.

Anyone else doing this?

I got pregnant at 18 and had my first child at 19. I enrolled in college when my daughter was about 3. I gave birth to my 2nd child at 23 and that was only 2 months before graduating with my Associate's degree. I am now 25 and working on my Bachelor's; should be done in June 2011. People like us show others that nothing is impossible. I am also going through a separation from my husband and I work full time. I will show people that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I'm not saying it's easy by any means, there has been tears of sadness, tears of happiness, many times with no money, but it has helped me get through life knowing that money will not solve all of your problems. It just takes away the money stress. That's it. That is why we go to college, to make more money and lower that money stress in our life.

I have my Associate's in Political Science and my Bachelor's in English Literature.

I have to say, I'm really proud of everyone. So often people assume that if you're a young parent that you don't have an education or you have no motivation to get one. You ladies prove just how wrong that assumption is. :-)

I did one year of college and am a certified nursing assistant. I never got to pursue my CNA because I got pregnant two months after I received it.

Now I am finding it incredibly hard to go back to school.... first and foremost because I simply can not afford it. And secondly, I don't want my son in daycare all day, 5 days a week. I feel obligated to be his mother... I brought him into this world so I feel like I need to be with him until he is in school full time. After that I will get back to my education and figure out what I want to do with my life.

Well I was 18 and in university when I found out I was pregnant with my first child... I continued to do so until I had her and still we to school after I had her I was lucky that my school had a child day care there while I went to my classes... Then I got married 4 months after I had her bought a new home and 14 months after I found out I was prenant yet again lol and I was still in University tryin very very hard to get my bachelors in nursing HA it was hard but I DID IT!! Thank god I have a wonderful husband to help out on those late night feedings so I could study and sleep in on the week ends lol And now I have to do all that baby stuff over again because I have my third child and she will be turning 1 on the 17 of this month and yes I am still working the night shift from 6pm to 6am and a full time mom durning the day and I wouldn't have a thing different like I said it's a wonderful thing I have such an amazing husband He is a mechanical engineer and works 6 days on and 6 days off so it works out for our relationship too because we spend lots of time as a family as well and to think I'm just 25 years old HA wouldn't have planned that in a million years when I was younger but I love it... So to all you working/school moms take it from me...YOU CAN REALLY HAVE IT ALL!!!!!!
