I'm curious how many young moms went to college. I had my first child at 21 and got my Bachelor's degree 3 months later. How many other young moms went the college route?

I don't have my degree yet, but I am one semester of classes and a semester of student teaching away from having mine. I think going to school was the right thing to do for my family, but it is not the route that every young mom takes. I think it depends on the family.

I got my bachelors at 21 and married in the middle of my senior year. I then went back to school last semester to pursue a masters and I'm having my baby boy next Friday! We've been married for 3 years now and are looking forward to being parents. Yes, it will be difficult to finish my masters with a newborn, but we'll get through it somehow! Last semester I was pregnant (bad all day sickness) and working fulltime while going to school, so I have some confidence!

I am 23 years old and have 2 Associate degrees, one in Criminal Justice and one in Forensics. I recieved both of those before getting married and having a baby. I will be graduating with my Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice this August (2010) and will be starting on my Master's right after. My husband and I felt that he makes penty of money and thought that it would be best to rise our daughter at home and once she starts school then I will put my degree's to good use and go back to work.

I have a bachelor's degree but I got it before getting married and having children. I graduated at 21, got married at 22, got pregnant at 23, had my first child at 24, and got pregnant and had the second child at 25. I've been on a roll! lol I worked full time in my field from a few months after graduation until I gave birth and I've been home with my children ever since. I plan to eventually go back and get my Master's but that may not happen until after I'm finished having children. We'll see.

I worked full time and went to school part time until I finished my bachelors. It took a little longer (I graduated the month I turned 25), but I had less debt coming out of college and good work experience, which helped in getting a better paying job. Found out I was pregnant just one month after starting my new job after college. :P
Now age 28 and planning to start my MBA in a year and a half, after baby #2 is around a year old (due June this year). I want to get that out of the way before baby #3 shows up!

I graduated with a BS in Sociolgy when I was 22 and had my little girl just after I turned 26. Considering that my degree is pretty broad, I guess you could say that I use it working with intenational students and scholars at the university. I can't imagine having to go to school and take care of a baby at the same time, so big props to all you moms who are doing/did that. I think that's awesome. Good luck to you all who are working towards those degrees!

I was 22 when I had my first children, twin girls. I had them in November, went back to school the next semester, and graduated the following December with a Bachelor's. I have stayed at home with my children since then. I love being a stay-at-mom and have no desire for a career, but I feel education is important and it's there for me if I need to use it some day.

I went to college right after high school got married at 22 and had one year left of college. I graduated in 2007 with a Bachelors in Social Work then had our son 3 months later. Since that time we have added another son and I stay home with them. I love it and am glad that I have my degree. Someday I would like to go on and get further education but I have a full-time job with two boys, a dog, and a husband :)

I graduated with my degree in Social Work when I was 21, got married at 22, and has my son three weeks before I turned 24. I used my degree for over a year but we moved to follow my husbands job and I've had trouble getting back into a position (I have free child care through my mom if I stay part-time). So for the past year (during pregnancy and after maternity leave) I've been working part time at a nice hotel as a front desk clerk. It pays well and lets me stay home part-time.

I completed my BA Education degree 9 months after my daughter was born I was 25, graduated November just gone. Also this year I started and completed a NVQ3 in Childcare, learning and development (a course done at home) and next Monday I am due to start my Level 4 Diploma in Specialist Play for sick children and young people. Not sure if im more nervous or more excited. Course is onlt 9-4 one day a week with 200 hours placement over the year as a student in hospital. Still get to spend the majority of the week with my 18 month old beautiful daughter but still hopefully gaining the qualifications I need to get a good, well paid job that I will enjoy and will secure all our futures and make her proud of me.

I didn't take the standard "college route." I'm 22, and my expected graduation date (with my Associate's) is my 23rd birthday. I will definitely be continuing my education at some point, it's just that I need something to get a job with. I don't think it matters WHEN and HOW you do it, as long as your kids are provided for and you actually do it. My mom had me when she was 16, and she got her Bachelor's pretty much "on time" after taking only one year off after high school, but then she didn't get her Master's until I was about 11 and two kids later. As long as you DO it, I think that's what matters.

Well I do not define it as the "college route." I am 21 years old...and almost done with my associates degree. I do not plan to have my next child until I am at least almost done with my batchlors....in my opinion you are never too old for school. My aunt finished her degree at 29 years old...and hey..no one can say a word she still finished even with her three children all still young...as long as you finish thats all that matters.

I had a bachelor's before the kids and am now working on my PhD in biomedical science while working full time. I have a great husband to help but it would have been a lot easier to be done with school before having the 2 kids. But it is still possible I maintain a 4.0 gpa despite everything and my children are too young to remember that I'm not around all of the time.

I graduated High school with my hours to complete my Cosmetology license. I used that to work full time while going to school part time. I got married at 19, my husband and I bought a house, and we both worked full time. I finished my associate of applied science in accounting in 2007. We were married 7 years before we even tried to concieve. College was very high on my list for completion. I must say it is very hard to work full time and do night school, have a house, husband, and try to have a life as well! Working hard, going to class, and finishing to walk across that stage was awesome! We got pregnant six months after my completion. She is nearly 14 months now, and we are loving it. We both still work full time.My degree in accounting will help me buy a hair salon in a few years and keep me into the bookwork! Yippee. Oh yeah, we are Blessed to have family to help us with childcare.
To all of you moms who have mentioned college, just do it! Don't wait, your quality of life is so much better! Much LOVE!

I, thankfully, never did get a college education. I know that sounds ridiculous to most, but I am thankful for where I am. I got married almost right out of high school and my hubby and I both worked very high-paced careers and I ended up by owning part of my own business. Then, when I got pregnant, I chose to be a stay at home mom. I fully plan on going back to college to become an RN, but I feel my place is in the home with my daughter and future children (hoping for four). But mostly, my husband will be going back to school soon and hopefully will open up his own business, which I will work at along side of him until our children grow up and move out. Then off to work I will go until we decide to retire. I am very blessed to have a husband that supports me and agrees that I should be raising our children. :)

I spent 4 years getting my degree and didnt take a break when I had my daughter because I knew I wouldnt want to go back! I now work in a school but I am not teaching in a classroom although I am still using my degree. I will likely have a better job next year to really utilize my degree. Great job to all you hard working moms out there!

I'm getting ready to start my final semester to get my B.S. in Biology. >^.^< My son was a "Happy Surprise!" But since I was so close to being done, I thought it would be really stupid to quit. I'll be 24 in Feb...started my degree when I was 18. Well, actually I started out as a Psychology major, decided it wasn't for me and 2 years into it switched to Biology. Along with many MANY crazy life happenings that postponed earlier graduation. That's life though! :)

I went to college after high school - quit because i was in the wrong major - and just wasnt financially prepared for it. When i was pg. with my 3rd - i went back - and recieved my Associates Degree in Business.
I am now at it again - but not at an actual college - im in the Market America University. I am trained in whichever 'major' I choose - which happens to be cosmetics right now - and I get to make money as I go along. So Im learning and building an income/business at the same time - and I love it!!

Def. easier if you do things in the right order. School, marriage then kids :) But I understand the importance of education more than someone who is 18 I think...
I must say I am rather insulted by your last statement. I had my son at 18 and am now 21. I graduated high school with honors and have a 4.0 in college now. You should not place all 18 year olds in the same catagory. That is the same as saying all black people steal and all muslims are terrorist. Social class as well as upbringing affect the way an individual sees education. Before you assume you understand something more than someone who is 18, you should walk a day in there shoes and then judge.
I Had my first child three weeks before I turned 18 and I have graduated from college and have a wonderful life with a loving husband and three amazing children. My husband and I bought our first home a month after I turned 18. I am currently a stay at home mother and have a very wonderful life. So how can anyone say that an 18 is any different than a 25 year old. I had more at 18 than most 30 year olds have now!
