I'm curious how many young moms went to college. I had my first child at 21 and got my Bachelor's degree 3 months later. How many other young moms went the college route?

O went to collee as well, and am currently in grad school. Two classes away from my masters degree. It's hard though trying to balance everything, but i was 18 when I had my first and had to drop out of college. Since then, I went back to school slowly, received my associates first, then a bachelor's in social work, now I'm pursuing my masters (MSW)...I guess I have the drive because I am determined not to give up on my dreams and to provide a better future for my family.

I had my first at 16 second at 18 and just had my third at 23 and am currently attending college to obtain my RN and am also trying for my degree in medical imaging! I honestly never planned on going to college but with the economy the way it is I believe its the only way I can get a good job and beable to provide for my family the way I would like to!

I plan to go to school in the next 5 years... I probably will start school when my son does. The only reason I don't go now is because I don't know what I want to go for.

I got my bachelor's degree at 23 (2005). Got married at in 2006. Went back to school for my masters a few months after getting married. Graduated grad school in July 2008, just after my 26th birthday. Switched jobs in Oct. 2008 and found out I was pregnant in December 2008. In August 2009 at the age of 27 I had a baby girl. After getting my bachelor's degree until I switched jobs in 2008, I most definately used my degree in journalism as a news reporter. Now I am a technical writer for an agricultural company. But at the end of the day I can leave my work and work and not worry about working wierd hours anymore.

Hello ladies! I am currently getting my Bachelors Degree. I also work part time, and my son is 3 years old. Luckily I have a lot of caring people in my life who help me out.

I went to the Institute for Human Services Education (IHSE) and got my Public School Program Assistant Certificate (Teacher's Aid / Educational Assistant Training). Right after I was out of high school. I worked three years and then had my son. But I wish I had of got my teaching degree. I feel like it is too late though.

I have a Bachelors of science degree in psychology... most worthless degree ever! Unless you are planning to go to grad school for a masters or phd, there is pretty much nothing you can do with it. I worked at a psych hospital until I was laid off at 7 months pregnant. Which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I was never sure what I wanted to do career-wise, but I was always sure I wanted to be a mom at some point. So now I'm staying home with my almost-7 month old, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Hi everyone! I am 27 right now and married to a wonderful man. I attended college and earned a bachelor's in psychology. I worked in the field for about 4 years before having my "Irish Twins" :) My husband and I decided that I would stay at home to raise our children, which has been an amazing experience. It was hard to shift my attitude from career to motherhood. I think once my boys are in school, I would love to earn my masters and look at career options. Don't get me wrong, my husband and I can barely afford to have me stay at home but we make whatever sacrifices we need to make in order to give them the best care and home!

All I meant by that was I have life experience that some 18 year old might not have therefore I truly appreciate my education. I have always done things backwards from the social norm: babies, marriage then school. It wasn't a personal attack on any young person in school or you so perhaps you shouldn't compare my statement w/ terrorism. You walk a day in my shoes ( cancer, broken back, cancer again, and a horrible upbringing riddled with drugs and abuse) before you tell me not to judge.

I was not directly comparing your situation to terrorism. I was stating an example that you cannot just lump a group of people with a common caracteristic in one catagory. The way you wrote your first comment came across like you were  lumping all 18 year olds into knowing less than education about you simply because they were "18". I was not judging your situation since I do not know you situation. I was simply stating that your comment sounded stereotypical and it was offensive. I am sorry to hear that you have gone through so many hardships. I will pray for you and your family.

I earned my bachelors degree before I got married and had my twins. But, while I was pregnant I started my masters degree and just graduated a few weeks ago. It was a lot of work, but well worth it (my twins are 18 months old now).

I had my daughter when i was 17..i graduated high school then immediately got my bachelors degree. i currently work in the field in which my bachelor degree is in. I think that babies in general make people grow up because there is no other choice. i think that anyone who goes back to school at any age baby or not appreciates it in different ways. Congrats to all other moms who went back/finished/ are finishing school of any kind!

Sara, I think the problem was the wording you used. You said "the right way." I don't think you meant it to be condescending, but it came across (regardless of your own situation) as saying that all other ways are wrong. I think that's what was being responded to. I know seeing that rubbed me the wrong way, and I did things technically "the right way." I even owned my first home before having a child.

I don't work outside of the home.  We decided that I would take this time to have children and take care of them and when they start going to school, I'll either get a masters or start working.  My husband makes more than enough money to support us and I like being home with the kids.

My son is almost 10 months and I am in school for Physiotherapy, and I'm currently 21. I was always taught that you can do anything you put your mind to, and that you have to do what's best for your child before yourself in most situations, but make sure to take care of yourself as well.

Def. easier if you do things in the right order. School, marriage then kids :) But I understand the importance of education more than someone who is 18 I think...

I must say I am rather insulted by your last statement. I had my son at 18 and am now 21. I graduated high school with honors and have a 4.0 in college now. You should not place all 18 year olds in the same catagory. That is the same as saying all black people steal and all muslims are terrorist.  Social class as well as upbringing affect the way an individual sees education. Before you assume you understand something more than someone who is 18, you should walk a day in there shoes and then judge.

I am currently in my second year of college and will be graduating in 2012 with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing! My son is 2. I should be in my 3rd year, but I waited a year to get adjusted to having a baby. Might have been easier the other way around, but I dont really know any different and it works for me. My son keeps me grounded and focused on finishing my education so I can support him better in the future.

I have a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education specializing in early literacy. When I graduated, I was 5 months pregnant with my daughter. Right now, I am using my degree working part time as a literacy interventionist with at risk students in an inner city school.

I had my daughter when I was 23 and finished school with 2 Associate degrees when I was 25. I plan on going back to school hopefully in the next year or so to get my Bachelors (should only take me about 2.5 years to complete). I do use one of my degrees now and the other will go toward getting my Bachelors. I may even go on eventually and get a Masters and PhD if circumstances permit.

I did the same thing you did Shaina. I had my son 3 months before I graduated with my Bachelor's degree. I now work from home as an adoption social worker. I also do day care during the daytime hours. Adoption work I do my meetings in the evenings or weekends and the paperwork part where I can fit it in.
