Lots of kids when they're just learning how to talk, will use the few words they know to describe everything. Or they'll make up new meanings for words--when my daughter was about 2, anything that was blue was something she liked. Even if it was actually pink, or yellow, or green. Or a giraffe.

its easy for them to say one word for everything. my 17 month old says puppy to everything she sees i just say no baby and tell her what it is so she can learn.

lol because its easy to say!! my daughter did that too.. its tough wen they dont know many words to communicate.. my17month old knows pappa and uh ohh, so thats what everything he points to is! lol

most likely he has just learned the word so he is trying it out all you need to do is when he says it go and find a ball and say look mommy found a ball and then get your little one to repeat it back to you.
