After my daughter was born last february, i didn't breast feed her until i went to the health department and the lady show me how to latch her on, but she would not, so i started pumping breast milk. i did it for 3 months until i started to lose interest. when she turned 10 months old she had her first cold and an ear infection. then last month , she got sick again with an ear infection, then got an ear infectioon for the third time with an ear infection. is this because i didn't breast feed her long enough? she's almost 15 months.

Some kids are prone to ear infections. My brother was so bad, he had tubes put in his ears 3 times! My daughter was breastfed for only a few weeks as I lost my milk, and she only just got her first every infection: severe gastro. Every child here in town has it, and at least half are hospitalized because of it, like my daughter.

Our son was breastfed and still struggled with ear infections. Like Emma said some children are just more prone to them than others. They do out grow them, so that's a plus! :)

Do not feel bad. Yes, breastfeeding or pumping and feeding it are the best for the baby, but it doesn't always work. Our daughter was a preemie and could not latch, nor did she have the sucking reflex. I pumped for 3 weeks (which they fed her through a tube), but I was in such horrible pain, that I couldn't go on after those 3 weeks. I felt horrible, but really had no choice (I was in tears when I pumped). Our daughter never got sick until she was almost a year and a half old and then it was just a little cold. I breastfed our son for 7 weeks before I had to go back to work and he never got sick either. So, I don't think that really has a whole lot to do with it. So do not feel like you caused this at all!

As for the ear infections, some kids are just prone to them and end up needing tubes in their ears very early. My friend's little girl had tubes put in at only 6 months old because she had them all the time. They say if the mother or father had issues when they were younger, the children are more likely to as well.

Again, don't worry yourself or feel you did anything wrong. You did nothing wrong! Talk to you doctor about her ear infections and see what they suggest! Good luck to you!

I doubt this is due to not breastfeeding long enough. Some kids are just prone to ear infections.

Im with Danielle on this, your feeding method wouldnt have anything to do with your daughters ear infections.
My mum breast fed me until i was 10 months, and i never had an ear infection. I formula fed my son (hes now 16 months) and so far hes never had an ear infection. My niece who is 19 months old was breastfed, and she constantly has ear/throat infections, colds and flus. Some people are just more prone to getting infections.

I'm with Danieele on this one. Also She hasn't really had time to build up a proper immune system either. Every cold could be a different virus. Her immune system has to build up to it to be able to avoid all the colds and stuff. My son catchs every cold that goes around and He was only breastfed for 6 weeks. He just ate too much and I couldn't keep up with him.

If she is having frequent ear infection I don't think it has anything to do with your method of feeding her.
She probably has sensitive ear ducts, or just prone to infection.

Some women strictly formula feed, and it has no affect on how often their children get ear infections.

Obviously, if you chose to breastfeed, it could help your daughter fight infection, but I feel it no way affects her health conditions.
