My daughter loves to fight sleep during the day, and I thought she fought at night like crazy until I realized that she was feeling the effects of the coffee I drank in the mornings. (This would only apply if you are nursing, though.) Once I stopped drinking coffee she started going down no problem.

:) because there's just so many interesting things going on that he doesn't want to miss even a second of it. :)
not sure what your bedtime routine for him is, but try to follow one. keep it simple and short and matter of fact. bath, jammies, nurse, bed. and leave him be. don't check, don't walk by the room or things like that. my gals liked a little soft music-so i got a wind-up stuffed animal that I wouldn't have to turn off. some kids like white noise or a favorite song sung.
stick to the routine, so he knows what to expect and what's happening. and he'll struggle less.
