Tea is fine for children. As long as they are a year old. Some of these posts are some of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Caffeine? Really. When you give them tylenol and other medicines, guess what? It contains caffeine! And saying it is a drug, wow! Think about what is in your water, like Chlorine, guess what? That's a drug, but you're still letting them drink water. McDonald's sweet usually contains a ton of sugar depending on who is filling up the tea machine. But herbal tea is alright to give to your children. Think about other cultures, especially in England and Asian countries when they always drink some sort of tea.

My son LOVES chai tea with milk. And i let him have it with breakfast on a regular basis. I use about half the amount of chai that I do for my own tea tho. He also LOVES regular iced tea..which i only let him have on special occasions and very watered down. All said and done....Im sure you are a wonderful mother, and would never do anything to harm your son! And I cant say that I honestly believe that if you allow your toddler to drink some tea now and then, that he will later abuse drugs. Thats silly.
Good Luck!

I wouldn't give my kids green tea b/c of the small bit of caffeine but when I'm making a cup of tea for myself and they ask for some, I make them fruity herbal tea. I cool it to luke warm with milk or an ice cube once it's done brewing and don't add sugar to it. Especially when they are sick, I give them luke-warm tea.

No...but we have a family history of diabetes. So I'm kind of anal when it comes to sugar.

My daughter is seven months old, and she loves green tea. Her doctor said it was fine, so every day after dinner, her and her daddy sit down to a sippy cup of green tea. (about 6 oz a day)

I let my son drink herbal tea...no caffeine and no sugar brewed at home!
Also really good for them when they are coughing or congested.

I let my daughter drink tea every now and then. I still water hers down because of the sugar, but remember there is caffine in tea so be ware not to give it before nap times or he may not want to sleep. Tea is a lot better for him than soda.

Yeah the bottled stuff is pretty vile. I also in the summertime like brewing fresh peppermint, spearmint and lemon verbena, really good.

The caffiene content in green tea is actually very minimal. And the benefits of drinking green tea outweigh anything bad. Just read the labels and stay away from any with artificial sweeteners. I actually like to brew my own and stick it in the fridge, it's really good. Peppermint too. I've been giving my daughter green tea and herbal teas since she was tiny. She loves them!

It has caffiene in it which is a drug, personally id never let my kid have drugs at that age (reasearch shows that early exposure to drugs makes them more prone to taking/abusing them later on) but its up to you really - if you can handle the crazy caffiene high and the comedown and arnt concerned about the effects on your child then yeh its your choice.

When my son was they age thats all he would drink. I sweetened with a sweetener called xylosweet. I would stay away from the bottled green tea it is sweetened with aspartame and its not good for you.

I think I'll let him have it more often then. Esp green tea. I don't add anything to it and it's supposed to have lots of antioxidants. Thanks ladies! :)

I think if it's sugar free and caffeine free, it shoudn't make a big difference.
But, I dont see the point in giving a child something with no nutritional value in it.
