I am a medical assistant in a pediatricians office. Antibiotics are given for infections to kill bad bacteria, but they also kill good bacteria as well, which can allow an overgrowth of yeast. This diaper rash can be treated with over the counter anti-foot funal creams such as lotrimin. If it does not clear up you should call your doctor for a prescription strength cream. Next time they put your child on antibiotics ask for a probiotic (to help reboost your childs good bacteria) and a prescription for yeast rash in case it shows up anyways.

my 19 month old had real bad diaper rash and it came from her having thrush in her mouth which than ended up on her bottom and everytime i changed her she cried so bad...doctor told me to use a foot cream for foot fungus...crazy rite but it worked a miracle and i was surprised...it was called lamisil...any drug store has it...

Simple: If it's a yeast infection then there's white curd-like stuff in the folds of her skin, if not then it's a rash. If it's just a rash then I suggest SudoCream, Penaten didn't work on my last two kids, only the Sudo. Hope this helps! (Oh and if it's a yeast infection then you should get it checked out. My son had one and it's only 10 days of cream, nothing to hard to deal with.)

screaming would tell me she has a diaper rash. if it were a yeast infectionshe might enjoy being wiped due to the itching. If shes red around any private areas, diaper rash.... if she has a yeasty cheesy discharge, yeast infection. desitin for rash and i would give her yo gurt for the yeast infection becasue antibiotics caused and yogurt has probiotics that they generally recommend after a round of antibiotics, reguardless this is not a diagnosis you may want to see her dr if these ideas dont work.

How I could tell the difference is, no matter what I did for my son, his rash only got worse instead of better. That's when I figured it was more than just a diaper rash. So I took him to his pediatrician's and they ointment they prescribed got rid of the yeast infection super fast. If you're using baby powder or the diaper rash cream (petroleum jelly works too) and it's not making things better after a day or two, then it's probably a yeast infection. Also, try whiping her off with warm water, baby soap and washcloth instead of baby whipes.

Go to the doctors as soon as you can. My daughter had a yeast infection and did the same thing, they gave us an antibiotic and cream, I also started using Vaseline when changing her diaper and shes been fine since....this happened to her at about 4mths and shes 9 now.

I found that a yeast infection looked way worse than a regular rash. If using your normal cream for a diaper rash doesnt help at all I would take her in to get it checked, you'll get a special cream if its a yeast issue.
