We are still kind of new to the community where I live and the first time I took my daughter to church and an older woman approached me and said "it must be so hard on you" and i assumed she meant because my daughter was very small, she was 4.5lbs at the time, but she continued to tell me not to be embarassed about being a single mom. Is there something wrong with me that I dont drink or use drugs and im married at 21 or is it just that most people assume the worst about everyone. I dont mean this to offend any single moms out there my best friend is going to be a single mom and its a better situation for her than staying where she is.

Lol, I've had men sit next to me in trains or food courts or whatever going on about their kids and how they're single fathers. Then they turn around and ask how I'm finding it on my own.

Its rediculous aye, i am 21 married mother of 2 i take my kids out by myself all the time and i get the most rediculous looks, i know i shouldnt have to but i like to take my husband out places with me i know i will go all the time so ppl that shop there all the time see that he does exhist. Also he is 26 so it kindof makes meseem a little older i guess. It is very unfair how people get treated even if it is just a look it can really ruin ur day. I ask my mum how can i look older so i wont be judged. She always just wants to know why i would want to look older when the rest of the world is trying o look younger. Anyways im babbling just keep ur chin up n dont let ppl get to u. All the best with ur little treasure xo

Erika, I'm right with you. Funny, I'm actually about to streak mine in blue. I haven't done anything in a while, but I used to get all kinds of looks and comments. When I was pregnant, I worked at a video game store, had lime green hair, and my secondary ear piercings are gauged. Later, I went to purple hair, lol. Even though my hair is natural right now (except some stray blonde tips), I still get looks for the piercings, wrist tattoo, and my playful makeup. Again, I just show the ring (peridot) and tell them I have a right to my individuality, and that I'm an artist and I like my colors, lol.

if i'm not with my husband you should see the looks i get, i know my oldest is not biologicaly his but my youngest is and he's white with blue eyes, so people think not only am i a single mum but i definately get around, lol, but i don't care, everyone is too judgemental these days

I get that too! especially when my husband is away training. I show them my ring and tell them its rude to assume, that usually shuts them up. Plus i have blue streaked hair and piercings , so they also assume im a complete idiot and should be sterilzed ... its ridiculous. It bothered me before but my husband said that the only opinions that matter are mine, his and our daughter. If she is happy then im doing great!

Hi Amanda!

Although i am a single mum and know exactly what you mean! Before my partner and i split everyone always assumed i was a single mum because i was young. And now that i am a single mum, when i tell people they always say 'but you sound so intellegent/mature' It just makes me laugh to see the kind of stereotypes people live by, and believe.

The thing i find strange is how communities have changed, 25 years ago it was very common for women to be married and have children in their early 20's, but now society seems to veiw the norm as 30s. You just have to laugh at how narrow minded people can be!

Love your pic, your daughter looks beautiful
