video games & my soon to be 11 yr old

my son is addicted to video games, mainley his xbox 360. recently his school work & grades have gone down. not failing but not as good as they were. when he brings me home a failing paper i have him fix it and also take his video games away, i feel that its the video games that are doing this. i work so when he gets out of school im not there to be sure his homework is done before he plays the game. my babysitter asks him if his work is done and he tells her yes. but she doesnt check his tracker. i check his tracker when i get home as i have to sign it. in the past month i have seen alot of unprepared stamps from his teachers, which means he didnt turn in his homework. so i told him when his next report card come if there is even 1 D or F then his xbox is coming out of his room till the next report card comes and his grades are improved. does anyone else have these "video game" problems? i also blame my self for all this because he is my 1st born and has been spoiled all his life. he gets every new video game system that comes out, he gets the newest everything no matter the cost. so i do blame myself for this. i just want to know if anyone else has this problem? im trying not to do the same with my soon to be 4 year old but they are my babies so i buy them all the best things. i bought them both the new 3ds for christmas. im ashamed of spoiling my boys but idk how to stop :(

Instead of taking away the system, take away all the games and hide them until you get home and check his homework. If he completed his homework, check over it to see any errors. Then every time his grades improve, give him back a game or two (may not be the one he wants to play, but that may help too). I don't have problems with kids paying games, its my husband who is the gaming addict.
