Older Child Adoption

Has anyone in this community adopted older children? I adopted my three (sibling group) when they were 4, 5 and 6 and have yet to meet anyone else that has experienced anything similar.

I adopted four older girls. Get ready for a roller coaster. Stick to your guns and make sure you keep working with them. It is not for the faint of heart. The only thing that keeps me sane is my faith. Seek help and don't let anything slide. My two cents.

My 2 were 6 and 4 when we adopted them. It was rough at first, but now they are 14 and 16 and are typical teenagers.

My husband and i adopted our daughter as an infant. We are in the process of adopting another child....thought we would adopt another infant. However, our social worker just suggested a 6 year old she thinks would fit perfectly into out family. Our duaghter is 3 years old. I want to know if others have adopted an older child into their family.

We adopted our foster child at 3, although she'd been with us since she was 17 months. Fortunately, we have no contact with her birth parents, although we are open with her that she had other parents. At 4 she seems to just take this as normal. She too had/has some lingering effects of the first 17 months and prenatal effects in their care.

My girl was 9 when I got her as a foster child and 10 when I adopted her. We had some issues with the bad habits and untrusting heart. Unfortunately our adoption is open and her birth mom keeps breaking her heart by lying and never showing up for any visits. At the age of 12 now she has the legal right to say if she wants to maintain contact and so far she has. I don't think I would do an open adoption again where the parents are still there again due to the experience of my little girl.

My husband and I are in the process of adopting a sibling set of 3: girls 9 & 6 and boy 8.

We already have 2 boys 11 & 9.

It isn't the easiest but we love them all and do our best!

Try 16 when he came to live with me, and 20 when I legally adopted him...man, did we ever have a rough go of it for the first few years - he had SO many bad habits and a very untrusting heart from his "real" family, the ones that passed him around those first 16 years like an unwanted doll.

We adopted our boys when they were 2 and 3 but now are 6 and 7. Did you adopt them through foster care? We did.
