Sippie Cup Nightmare!

Lara - posted on 02/23/2010 ( 9 moms have responded )

My baby is 10 months old and will not use a sippie cup! We have tried multiple cups including the nubby cup! No way! All she wants to do is play with it and when I try to show her how to use it she screams and fights me! Any suggestions?

i noticed justin only like the sippy cups with a rubber top, he hates those hard plastic ones, i think the rubber reminds him of a nipple, plus he doesn't like the handles he likes the ones that are straight like a bottle

When you give your child juice is is pure juice? My daughter preferrs her juice 1/2 and 1/2. We use juicey Juice (100% juice) and Nursery water. She also likes watered down gatoraid (spelling? LOL) show your child how to do it see if he/she will mimick! also I dipped my finger in the juice and rubbed it on her lips so she could taste it first so it wasn't such a shock. My doc tells me you should never put formula in the sippy's b/c you wean them off formula at 1 year and you don't want them to associate the sippy with formula.

We started Caroline on a sippy at 6 months (just letting her play with it) and she is just now drinking from it. I also put it next to her where ever she is on the floor or in the chair or on my lap her sippy is there! Hope this helps!

be stubborn, dont give her the bottle. Babies will nto allow themselves to dehydrate, she will get thirsty and she will drink.

I know it sounds heartless but there are alot of dental problems that can arise from being on a bottle too long

Last month I got the Tommee Tippee trainer & took the valve out so Torin could see how the milk came out of it, then I put the valve back in & gave it to him. He used it for about a day & then apparently forgot that it was fun b/c he refused it since. I figured I'd give him another month & try again. What's funny is that he's always stealing my 3 1/2 y/o's straw cup & he can drink out of that. It must be the spout or something. If he keeps refusing the cup, I'm buying him a straw sippy.

My 10mo old son like to use a cup with a straw...I think munchkin makes them. He didn't like the sippy cups I tried before. Good luck!

our little guy did not like juice either, and it took a while for him to get used to the sippy. He also used the nuby cup and does well with drinking water from it now, but took a couple months for us to get to this point. Just keep trying and she will get there.

I wish I knew more. Cole doesn't care for juice that much either. I just put formula in the sippie and eventually faded to whole milk. I'm a first time mom and learning the ropes myself. Sorry

Amanda~ I have the nubby cup with is a soft spout and spill proof... I have tried everything in her sippie. She HATES juice... I have tried water and even her formula. Any suggestions?

I used the Born Free transition cup for my son. It comes with a tip that's pliable like a nipple and then they progress to a harder tip that lets liquid flow faster (like a cup would). My only complaint is that it doesn't have a spill proof valve. If they turn it upside down the liquid will drain. What do you put in her sippie cup?
