Hello! I am just wondering where most of you are as far as weight gain and any tips or tricks for curbing those not so healthy urges when we are pregnant. Also any tips for quick and effective weight loss after the baby?

Hi All,

I am also expecting my second and am 22 weeks along. I am on the metric system and gained 14kg with my first (31 pounds) and lost 16Kg by the time I was pregnant with number 2.

I strongly feel that Breastfeeding was the key factor. I breastfed until my son was 10 months (returned to full time work when he was 13 weeks) and pumped as often as I could although it was a major pain. I am a Phys Ed teacher and fairly active anyway, but did not feel the need to diet or have to overindulge on exercise either.

At this stage of my pregnancy I have gained 8 pounds. However, it's weird as I know I am bigger at this stage of my pregnancy than I was at the first pregnancy yet I feel like I have not put on as much... Weird I know.

I am 21 weeks along and have gained 7lbs so far. But before I go any further I gained 60 lbs with my first and 30lbs with my second. You learn real fast to try and not indulge just because your are pregnant. I am 5.2" and gaining weight on that frame is not fun. So, what I am doing this time is trying to be careful about what I eat and I never eat past 5:00 at night. Heart burn sets in and I learned to eat earlier instead of later. Keep in mind I was 103lbs before I got pregnant with my first and before getting pregnant with my third I was 118lbs. So, I have held on to some of that weight, which gives me a bit of cushion to start with. I am also seeing a personal trainer with this pregnancy twice a week, which is suppose to help with losing the weight much quicker after pregnancy, but will see... Oh, and one more thing, eating every two-three hours helps metabolize your body so you can eat more, just be picky about what you reach for. ;o) Drink plenty of fluids before a big meal as it will make you not want to eat everything in front of you. Good luck and congrats to all the ladies.

First of all...congrats to all of you!!! I am now 22wks, and as of my last appointment I have only gained 4lbs. I know what you all must think...LUCKY!! I know I feel the same way, however I started over weight and have a goal of gaining only 15lbs. Not sure how I am doing it, just eating when I am hungry, no late night food unless super hungry then I have veggies, fruits, or my fav right now is a bowl of cereal. I am eating lots of soup, awesome w/the cold weather, and salads and subways veggie delight sandwich. YUM!! Oh and did you know Starbucks does decaf anything? LOL Woohoo. I do indulge from time to time, but overall really listening to my body and trying to eat healthy.

As far as after, I plan on walking, nursing, and continueing my healthy habits. I had gained 40lb w/my daughter, never lost it, and 35 w/my son, and never lost it. So I am hoping with this one that my lesson has been learned. Again congrats on all the pregnancies!!

Hi, also pregnant, 23 weeks and 13 pounds gained....have to agree with Stephanie. South Beach was heaven sent after the first, he too weighed 9.1 and I suffered from pre-eclampsia and HELLP with him. I did Phase 1 and lost a total of 28 pounds in 3 weeks (I gained a little over 40 with my son). The rest came off slowly with breastfeeding, and chasing my son around when he started crawling. I did not start South Beach until my January 08 when my son was almost 8 mos. old. I continued to follow South Beach through the first trimester, but then the O's crazings hit (Oreos, Cheetos and Doritos). Trying to be good; but, will start South Beach again after this one (hoping May 1 - due date is April 9, 09).

Unfourtunatly with my first, who is now 9, I gained 86lbs. However, I was also preclampsia and had pretty severe adema. I did lose all of it by my six week check up since most of it was fluid but this time is different, I do not have those problems (yet :-s) so i am trying to be as good as possible. But it is difficult when I crave sweets ALL the time!!!

Hi Jennifer, I am preggo with baby #2, I'm 22 weeks and have gained about 23 pounds so far. I gained a total of 40 with baby #1 (who was almost 9 pounds) and lost ALL of it the first 6 months by going on South Beach.. but I did Phase II while breastfeeding b/c I didn't want to cut out all carbs and fruits while nursing. I think that breastfeeding (and lack of sleep) and South Beach Phase II was my magic formula! I'll be doing the SAME thing after baby #2... so I don't worry so much about gaining weight during this pregnancy, I don't overindulge but I am also not being strict with my diet either.

I am 25 weeks with #3 and actually lost 8 pounds the first trimester this time. I've now gained that 8 back plus about 5 more. The same happened with my first two, somewhat, though I didn't loose quite as much either time. I gained 15 lbs. total with #1 and had a 6 lb.15 oz baby, and 20 lbs. with #2 and he was 8 lbs. 2 ozs. With both I left the hospital in jeans (with a zipper!) one size bigger than I would normally wear. I think as long as you make healthy choices and try not to go too overboard on junk food, it will be easier to loose the weight afterward. Nursing helps too, you burn a lot of calories making milk, though your chest will look like you gained 45 pounds!

Hey Jennifer, I am 23 week and have gained 15 lbs. With my first who just turned 2 I gained 40 lbs but ate horrible. I am trying to be careful about what I eat this time. All the weight came off in the first 6 months except 10 lbs. I started a weight class and a spinning class at my gym. 3 months later I had lost the 10 plus another 5.

I am currently 21 weeks and I have gained 15lbs and I feel like maybe that is too much or I may have twins (u/s is Monday). I plan to join a kick boxing class again after the baby comes to help drop the added weight, however I would like to stop craving sweets now so I dont have as much work to do after...
