My 3 month old has the same problem at times! The dr said to put a little (tablespoon) of DARK Karo in her bottle and within the first 2 or 3 bottles she was back to normal!

Is he really constipated? The fact that he has not pooped in 4 days does not mean that he is constipated. Is he uncomfortable, crying? If you are feeding him formula and breasmilk or just formula it can happen that he may not go for a couple of days and be ok. At three months you can give him 1oz of prune juice mixed with 1 oz water. When I started givin my son formula he did not poop for three days. I gave him the prune juice and he pooped wiithin an hour. My pediatrician recommended it.

are you nursing? It's very common for breastfed babies to go several days w/o a bowel movement...

You can also try massaging the babies feet, and or their abdominal area in a counter-clockwise circular motion. GL

Hi Misty! Sorry about your little one ...

You should stop letting him poop in his diapers! Start potty training now. Imagine if you started number 2 only to find out you'll be stuck sitting in it ... you'd hold it in too! This is so common at this age. Babies are developing their awareness of their elimination muscles and if you continue to diaper him in the conventional manner, he'll lose this awareness soon and think that sitting in poo is normal and constipation could continue or become cronic.

I started potty training my daughter from birth. By the time she was a couple months old she was going potty in the toilet all day long. It’s so easy and it has saved us so much money! She never has diaper rash, never been constipated and I never have to clean up poopy diapers!

I have a company called PeeSpeak that teaches parents how to bring this very easy practice into their families. It’s stress-free and can be practiced part-time if you are a busy mom. You can see a video on our website:

There is a $5 off coupon code for the book & DVD: poofree123

Good luck and message me if you have any questions :)

I am glad to see you got a poopy diaper. I have the same issue. My Dr. said give Prune Juice. Every day we do 2oz prune juice with 2oz of water. IT WORKS!!!! The prune is very powerfull. We actually did not do it for 1 day and my son was constipated for 2 days. If the problem comes back try it out. Good luck!!!!

If your baby is breastfed it is totally fine for him to go several days at a time without having a dirty diaper. As long as he is producing 7-10 wet diapers a day he's okay. I thought my baby was constipated too, but I guess it's only a problem if it's really hard (like rabbit pellets) when they do go.
I have no idea what it's like when they are formula fed, but it sounds like the problem is solved now anyway :)

I wouldn't use a cotton swab that's kind of scary. I would just use a thermometor, that helped my daughter, you can also use prune juice, 1oz of juice to 1oz of water, they should go within 24 hours. You might not want to be to worried though, my daughter is almost 4 months old and since she's been born she only goes once or twice a week.

When my first child was a newborn she had some troubles too. Our doctor had us take a cotton swab, coat it with vaseline and insert it just a little way up her bum. This makes them contract their muscles and push. Worked every time.
