How do I get her to drink from a straw?

I'm just curious about how to get my daughter to drink from a straw. She's been on a sippy cup since 6 mos & I just recently bought her some cups w/straws since she likes to try to drink from our cups when we have straws, but she's clueless. She tips it up & bites the straw, but can never seem to suck from it... How do I get her to take a sip? It's not really a major concern, but I am curious. Thanks! :-)

my son always wanted to try and drink from my cup and straw so i too bought a straw sippy by munchkin. At first he jus chewed it so i smeared some of his baby food on the outside of the straw and gave it to him he started sucking instantly as he was trying to get the taste of the food. i did this three times and thats all it took he now will only drink from sippys with a straw.

We tAught r Daughter to drink from a straw by putting the straw in a drink and getting some fluid in it. Then we put our finger over the end so the fluid stays in it. We pull the straw out of the drink and then give it to baby. We don't release our finger to let the fluid out until she sucks on the straw. So this way baby gets that sucking means getting fluid out. Do this awhile and then put straw in drink for her to do herself.

My daughter didn't like sippy cups so I bought her the tag on the bottom calls it a juice box. It's got a spout like thing that flips out and has a straw attached inside. She didn't know how to drink from it, so I would squeeze it a little to make some of the liquid come out. It took a few tries, but eventually she would suck on it. And since then, she can drink from any straw. It's really messy because she'll take a sip, then open her mouth before swallowing the liquid, so a lot will just come back out of her mouth. Now, she will use a sippy cup, but only 1. She won't use a hard spout, and with the silicon ones, she just bites down on them to get the liquid out of it. She won't suck it. I've got one that's kind of in-between. The spout is rubber, and those are the only ones that she will use. She'll get it eventually.

We've tried juice boxes & Capri Suns & to no avail... that's why I thought I'd try the straw sippy cups... Thanks for the advice - hopefully she'll just catch on soon!

Try the juice boxes that have the straw that you poke through the top or capri sun. I got my son to drink from the straw of one of those yesterday, I think their is less air in there so it is easier for then to suck out actuall juice instead of air. Then maybe once she gets used to that she will realize thats what you do with the sippy cups/straws. It worked for us good luck!
