Hi there,

My LO, is EBF and has started some solids. She doen't gets a bottle with rice cereal or stage 1 baby food maybe twice a week.
She has not been pooping like she used to and when she does poop its been really thick (like peanut butter) and STINK.
She's been farting like crazy too...and they too are STINK!!!

Anyone else experiencing this, I'm mostly worried about the frequency of her poop, is maybe once a week normal?

you should always offer some cooled boiled water or breast milk/ formula with the rice cereal. Its made of rice and is very absorbant of fluids...so can constipate. Aim to give her half a sipper cup... 100mls or so with the cereal, whenever you give it or give the bottle straight after the cereal and increase your normal bottled amount in the day you give the cereal. It will give her more fluid and soften her poo. Also if you give banana with the cereal it will cause more constipation. Pears with the cereal can help to reduce constipation, but yes poop does change to a thicker consistancy and wind starts to be more "odouress". thats pretty normal. THe frequency of poop will slow a little and may be more each time, or more frequent but smaller amounts because of the change in texture. You will notice lots of variations now that solids have started... so as long as its not rock hard and shes straining to go, or runny and green and diarhoea like, then its probably normal for what she is consuming, There is a huge range of normal in the area of baby poo! some babes go several times a day, others up to once every several days at a time. the longer they hold the smellier usually lol but thats not a major drama... no need to see drs if its once a week. JUst increase her fluids... and it should come good. A teaspoon of brown sugar dissolved in a bottle of cooled boiled water can help a constipated baby to pass a motion if they havent been for a while...so consider that if you think shes constipated.

Dont worry about frequency as long as she isnt straining.. My baby used to poo once every 4-5 days.. and now that we started solids he goes from like 2 times a day to like every 3 days.. it just depends what he gets..
