My son is not definitely diagnosed yet but it's looking like he has cows milk protein allergy. He hasn't grown in length in the last month but has gained weight. He has had an extreme amount of diarrhea in past month & has heaps if wind & is irritable during breast feeding. He is 4 months old. I am extremely worried about him. We are seeing a pediatrician who is investigating problem. Has any one else had a baby with this problem & did things improve. I am one stressed new mum.

Hi Holly. Thanks so much for your response & support. Since cutting out all dairy in my diet my son only has one loose bowel motion a day (instead of 10 or more) & is much less irritable when feeding. He has also started to grow in length again & is gaining more weight. We have follow up appointment with pediatrician tommorrow so that will be good. I am feeling so much better knowing he is growing again. I hope things will only improve from here on in. THanks again for your help & support. Cheers, Sara

Hiya Sara

My son has a milk protein intolerance, not allergy. But his symptoms were similar except he would become constipated if I had anything dairy (as I bf him). He has seen a dietitian and I continue to cut dairy out of my diet. A lot of ppl I've spoken to said its quite common and their babies grew out of it between one and two years old. I'm unsure whether this is the same for allergies though but stay strong. You have done everything you can to get it sorted and there is plenty of dairy-free food and drink out there so he won't miss out! One thing I would say though is make sure they help you (if you're breastfeeding) and your son out with your calcium intake as this will likely be affected. Good luck x
