What do you love about being a military mom?

There is so much I love about being a military wife and mom. Mostly, I love the pride I feel for my country and for my husband. I am happy that my children can grow up in a safe environment and learn that although life isn't easy, life is good. I love the benefits that come with being a military family and even though military life can be difficult it has taught me so much and for that I am thankful.

What advice would you give to moms on how to build a new support circle after a move?

My best advice would be: don't be shy. Get out there and make friends. Volunteer, join a club, Bible study, or play group. Get on Facebook and find groups that have other military wives in your area. Put yourself out there if you can, and people are going to find you.

What's a tip for helping kids cope with a parent's absence?

My son was 16 months when my husband left for deployment. At that age, I don't think he understood much of what was going on. I think the best you can do is talk about daddy a lot, show the kids pictures, have them help with care packages (draw pictures, choose items to put in, etc), let them have Skype time with daddy, and let them talk about there feelings. Sometimes just following their lead is the best thing you can do.
