The Best Part of Living in NYC I have lived here for five years, and the best part about living here might be the fact that it is so hard to narrow down which part is the best. I was drawn here by the city's ever-percolating energy, and that is the probably the simplest way to describe all of the things that make living in New York such a rewarding adventure. My Favorite Kid-Friendly Activity in New York City My current favorite activity with my son is to go to the Prospect Park Zoo. It is the perfect size for a toddler, and there are plenty of shaded (and even air-conditioned) areas, which are essential for outdoor summer fun. The Biggest Challenge of Raising Children in New York City The cost. Favorite Posts |

The Best Part of Living in NYC I was born in Puerto Rico but have lived in New York City for most of my adult life. It’s become home to me, so much so that I can’t ever imagine myself living anywhere else! My Favorite Kid-Friendly Activity in New York City My boys and I love walking around the city, enjoying the sights, the people and the cultures. My teen is a photographer so he always discovers new places for us to see. Taking photos and researching the different neighborhoods in the city is a great bonding experience for us. It's also a sneaky way of teaching them new skills that they’ll be able to use when they become adults! The Biggest Challenge of Raising Children in New York City Living in the heart of New York has pros and cons. I love that we are within walking distance of the theater, museums, and so much more; yet, the fast pace of life can sometimes be daunting to children. As a result, I try to find activities that allow them to be children, without over scheduling their days. I also have to say that one of the biggest challenges of raising my children in NYC is making sure they learn our Puerto Rican traditions. One that I miss tremendously is the Puerto Rican parrandas. In Puerto Rico, parrandas occur during the Christmas season. This is where a group of friends gather together to visit friends and family members. Before entering the home, they sing songs, while playing a variety of instruments very LOUDLY. When they finish their songs, they are invited inside to dance, enjoy a meal and coquitos, a type of Spanish eggnog. Once they’ve had their fill they leave and move onto someone else’s home to begin the process all over again! Although we still visit family and friends in NYC during the holidays, we’re not able to enjoy the custom fully for fear that someone would call noise control! Favorite Posts |
