What is your scariest pregnancy/labor story?

  • Nicole says:
Just one? Probably this last labor...my BP dropping so low and my passing out. I had a serious reaction to the epidural that could have killed me and my baby if the nurses and doctors hadn't been so competent and quick to take action.

  • Francine says:
    The pain!!!

  • Amanda says:
I had a natural birth lol so really the whole thing was scary

  • Rachel says:
when i was pregnant with my twins and my cord prolapsed they rushed me into a c-section to get my girls out they were premie. my oldest died the same day and my youngest passed 1 1/2 mon later.

  • Amanda says:
not really scary for me but when Emily was born she came so quickly that there were people running everywhere... my dad was trying to get out of the room, the midwife (at the hospital, not MY midwife) was trying to get someone else in to assist her and break down the bed (which did not happen, btw.) we caused quite a commotion!

  • Melissa says:
I had a difficult pregnancy but by far the scariest part was when I was in labour and they lost Noah's (Baby B) heartbeat. They checked with the ultrasound and still couldn't find it. It was 7 weeks early so I was terrified we had lost him. We had an emergency c-section though and everything thankfully, turned out great!

  • patrice says:
the scariest part was wondering when and where my water was going to break. My son was born in the winter and so, NOT knowing when he was coming, was scurry.

When a doctor came in to "check" to see how dilated I was and lied...she tried to manually dilate me without my permission, and later found out it was against my doctor's permission! I could choke her!

  • Anonymous says:
Nothing really scary. Was in labor FOREVER with Jacob. The next day the doctor came in and rushed a c-section though.

  • Tarsha says:

  • Angela says:
During both labours had fetal distress, with the first, his head was getting stuck and compressed which caused his heart rate to drop really low. Ans with number two, I caused her to be distressed, I panicked about an a drip I had to have and nearly fainted, then she went into distress too, purely maternal stress. Was quite scary, I got thrown down on the bed, an oxygen mask went on and alarms were going off everywhere. The midwife was shouting for help, and the looks on their faces said it all!

  • Jessica says:
Ive heard alot....i dont think mine was too scary... apart from when her heartbeat dropped to 75bpm she was pushed out right away i didnt want a c-section!

  • Victoria says:
actual labor, the pain, pushing the baby out!

Went into labor the day before I was scheduled for a C-section.

  • Kate says:
With the first the doctor had to break scaring that was on my cervix that was acting as a rubber band, and yes it did hurt alot. With the second after he was born, while trying to deliver the placenta I bleed around 2 litres and had to be rushed off to theatre. I remember going into shock and from reports later if I hadn't been in hospital I probably wouldn't be here now telling this story.

  • Melissah says:

When i was preggers with Abby, my 6 year old, I told everyone that I didnt care weather she was a boy or girl, as long as she came out breathing and crying. I was terrified when she was born blue and I didnt get to hear her cry. I was yelling for someone to tell me that she was ok, but everyone just looked at eachother. Thank god She turned out to be just fine!

  • Leah says:
Oh my gosh, she had the ambilical cord wrapped around her 3 times, everytime I pushed her heartbeat would go down, scary for me

  • Amy says:
well mine went well so i dont have one YET!

  • Jacqui says:
I was sick in the beginning they gave me the choice of terminating the pregnancy in my 13th week ... she was a handful right off lol

  • Pamela says:
I was in premature labour with Amy. Finding out how litlle she was 2 lbs or less. I was dilated to 4cm and 100% effaced with 3months to go. With God's help, with medication and long bedrest. She was born health and doing well.

  • Carly says:
well i only have one. erm basically i started leaking my waters at 36 weeks so went to hospital to have it checked out. they refused to let me go home as i could get an infection and they wanted to keep an eye on me. i asked to be induced the next day as waiting the 3-4 days knowing i could get an infection worried me. but i didnt even need to. an hour after i was checked over i went into labour. i think having a internal actually broke my waters and sent me into labour. i was in labour for 3hrs 14mins in all and enjoyed every second. the scary bit though was when they couldnt stop the bleeding after and eva being rushed away from me at birth.

  • Lisa says:

  • Sarah says:

well I only have one child and the other is on the way but my first delievery was scary for me because they lost his heartbeat so they ran me in for an emergancy c-section. With this pregnancy I just get a c-section so hopefully everything will go smooth.

  • Dominique says:
I got severe SPD with my first pregnacy and spent the last 6 weeks in a wheelchair unable to walk. I was finally induced at 37 weeks and spent the whole labour with my legs tied together with bandages as my legs couldn't be seperated. You're proberly wondering how you give birth naturally with your legs tied together and the answer would be with great difficulty!!! But i did it and was eventually fine.

  • Mary says:

  • melissa says:
When I was pregnant with my 1st I went in to premature labor 2xs. With my 3rd I was getting out of the car and had my middle son in my arms and fell down the hill. I was about 6 months pregnant and my son that I was holding was asleep and it didn't wake him up but it scared the crap out of me.

  • Angie says:
I was in labor with my son for 22 1/2 hrs. Right before it was time to start pushing I overheard the doctor tell the nurse that they could no longer find my son's heartbeat. That is NOT something you want to hear when you are in labor! Especially during the pushing part.

  • Paula says:
i had a really easy pregnancy, and a really quick labour, but i tore really badly and ended up in surgery after he was born

  • Claire says:
it was awful, 16 hours, forceps delivery, with a tear on top of being cut, to then be sick and pass out and miss the first few hours of my baby's life :(

  • lindsey says:
with my second it was too quick went from 5cm to pushing in like 15 minutes doctor wasnt there, they were telling me not to push but my body was making me(im sure you all know the feeling) the head came out and they didnt let me rest at all they were all saying push push thenher shoulders got stuck and they were yanking on her...but everything was ok...

  • Bonita says:
After I had been admitted, the nurse was trying to find a vein to give me an IV. I was already 5cm and the contractions were coming every 5 min and very strong. They stuck me three times in my hand before finally putting the IV in the middle of my arm(elbow). I had a bruise for a month from the IV. I asked for the epidural when they admitted and was told they had to wait for the blood work. My doctor was not there yet. Three hours later, the anestegiologist finally arrives asks how far along I was, no one had checked, I was now fully dialated and told it was too late!!

  • Ewa says:
when bub was born, wasnt breathing

  • Tanya says:
I hit a 18lb moose on the highway within my eight month of pregnancy. My vehicle was a complete write off and I was rushed to the hospital. I had glass and moose fur/blood everywhere. The hardest decision was to have an Xray to see if I had internal bleeding. I was admitted and spent nearly a week in the hospital. The reality of the situation didn't hit me until I returned home and saw the pictures of the vehicle. I shouldn't of survived the accident but the "Universe" or "God" had other plans. I am grateful for my second chance in life.

  • Anonymous says:
I had some bleeding when I was only about 8 weeks pregnant which terrified me, then when I was around 7 months I had to go to the hospital with really bad stomach pains.

  • Kat says:

  • Amanda says:
when i was pregnant with hanna rick got in a bad accident and broke his neck. i was about 4 months along and i think it was the stress but i started bleeding severely. i went to the e.r. and they told me that hanna was aborting. they didnt do any tests at all just told me that i was gonna lose the baby that i should go home and take it easy. they put me on complete bed rest. i was devastated. i quit bleeding the next day and made a doc appointment to be checked out and little hanna was fine. still dont know what actually caused it i just blame it on the stress of the car accident and everything that happend along with it.

  • Mel says:
i went into labour at 6 months and i was in and out of hospital from then on he was only 8 days early in the end!

Having a baby who was determined to sit up right for birth. He would not turn "head down" on his own and a team of doctors turned him manually in the womb.

  • Kaylia says:
When my baby got stuck! Her face turned blue, and one nurse had to jump on the bed with me and start pushing down on my belly. I didn't know what was going on because they were speaking french. My grandmother is fluent in french and just seeing her face made me panick more.

  • Michelle says:
Hard to say. I guess the scariest time for me was when my middle daughter was born suddenly, at home, footling breech with the cord around her neck, and got stuck in the birth canal. She was halfway born with her legs already out and my contractions just stopped -- the paramedics had to literally reach in and pull her out. I was absolutely terrified that she was going to die! But at the same time it seemed like everything about that day conspired to make sure that if she had to be in that situation, it was going to turn out ok. By the end of the day I felt like it was obvious that God's hand had been over us, and if I had to go back I wouldn't do a thing differently.

  • Tonya says:
i had a pretty scary labor, started off ok... they decided to induce because my blood pressure was high and they were worried about pre-e or something scary. Started pitocin on Thursday evening, by later that night I had nurses coming in to put oxygen on me and making me turn on my sides to get Rylie's heartrate back up. They even turned off the pit to let her recover a couple times - I was freaking out! By Friday, they basically told me that she wasn't handling labor well and i had to get an emergency c-section (the number one thing i DID NOT want!!) But for my baby, i had no choice. Turns out, her cord was so long and was sitting right by her head the whole time I was contracting, so it was putting pressure on her cord. Probably would have had to get a section anyways. Sorry that was so long!!

  • Cyndi says:
After suffering miscarriage before, I was pretty scared in the first trimester that it would happen again. When I got used to the fact that I was staying pregnant this time, my fear was of whether or not the baby would have OI (osteogenesis imperfecta) and how that would affect the rest of the pregnancy and his/her birth. THEN, at 33 weeks I went into pre-term labor and my amniotic fluid dropped drastically. We were able to slow the labor down and I had contractions for the next 6 weeks, but he held out until our c-section date.

There were alot of scary points with my first pregnancy. In the beginning my morning sickness was so bad I was hospitalized for dehydration. I couldn't even keep water down. Not even a g profile. When I was 5 months pregnant I was in a car accident because apparently no had explained red lights to the other driver yet. Then I moved suddenly and hadn't found a new doctor yet when I went into labor, and the on call doctor let me sit there in labor, feeling like I was literally dieing for 11.5 hours before she decided to do an ultrasound to check the position of the baby (she was breach). My husband got kicked out of the hospital twice by security for threatening to do her bodily harm if she didn't do something to help me. All around, not the best experience. I am glad she's here now though.

I swear it felt like minutes went by before I heard him cry...I couldn't see him because he was in another room and I was being stitched up so that made it even worse. I got up to pee one night at 34+5 weeks and my water broke on the toilet. I packed a bag and we headed for the hospital 45 minutes away. When the nurses FINALLY checked me, I was fully dilated, fully efaced, and at a +3 station. The doctor wasn't there and I was almost delivered by a resident. They didn't let me push until the doctor arrived. He gave me a shot of a local anesthetic, as that was all we had time for. The doc delivered his head, unwrapped the cord, and suctioned his nose and mouth. Then he delivered the shoulders and turned to get something. The nurse pulled me up to see the baby coming out and he shot out! The doctor barely caught him. All in all, my labor was 2 hours and Justus was out in 4 contractions.

I had a home birth, right after my baby girl was born I felt liquid draining from me and I said to my midwife, "Beth I'm leaking something." She looked down and said "yes you're bleeding" While delivering my baby she tore the placenta off of the uterus wall and caused the hemoraging to start. We lucked out that Beth knew what to do and was able to stop the bleeding even before the first responders showed up at our house (35 miles from the hospital).

The labor part went pretty quick for me when I was having my son, (so quick that the meds they gave me had no effect bc almost as soon as they gave them to me I was ordered to push), except for that last part when I started to get tired & it was hard to push. Then all of a sudden they start screaming, "Push!! Damn it push!! The cord is wrapped around his neck!!!" And I remember my mom looking nervous and i can't remember if she was crying but I was like, "Oh shit!" and gave a final push and finally he was delivered. I didn't hear him cry & at first I thought something was wrong---my heart started squeezing tightly--- until he gave a squall.

It was when I was in labor with my daughter Aubrey. I had problems during my pregnancy and had to have many ultra sounds and an amnio, I was induced at 5:15 AM, and they broke my water around 11:00 AM, and as soon as they broke my water, I knew something was wrong, I was told Neo Natal needs to be called and I was told I could not push until they got there, well for 45 minutes I was told not to push, and as you all know, that is easier said than done, while they finally got there and I pushed 2 times and Aubrey was born, but she did not cry right away, a few minutes later she began to cry, but I was not allowed to hold her. She had what is called : Meconium. I was so scared because while I was in labor, they kept losing her heartbeat, and I almost had to have a C-Section

  • Carla says:

I don't have anything horrible. I suppose it would have to be being induced opposed to letting things happen naturally. I was hoping for a med free birth, but I had an extremely rare reaction to the pit which caused me to endure one long extremely intense unending contraction during labor. (My "breaks" were the strength of regular contractions, and the peaks were 3-4 times stronger.) As a result, I ended up with an epi...it was either that, or end up with a c-section for failure to progress due to the stress/tense/exhaustion of the pit reaction.

  • Becky says:
1st pregnancy -- I started going into labor at 29 weeks. they stopped it with a shot. I had my son 10 weeks later. I was scared during the labor because I had pushed for over and hour and he still wasn't out yet and I was soo exhausted. I was worried they would have to do an emergency c-section, but luckily 30 mins later he was born. 2nd pregnancy -- miscarriage 3rd pregnancy -- I had a bad experience with my epidural, it worked, but getting it was bad. They missed the first time trying and hit a nerve and blood vessel, I was in so much pain from that. It has turned me away from getting one ever again. But the scariest part was after my son was born. They were cleaning my son off while I was passing the afterbirth, but it didn't want to come out.. when it finally did , I started bleeding out. They were worried that it wasn't going to stop. Luckily the Dr got the bleeding to stop after awhile. That was scary.

My water didn't break (any of the times) so I didn't know I was in labour. We called his mom, and she said I'd know if I was in labour when my water broke, so we called his friend too, she said the same thing. So we called a cab home, went home and our neighbour was over and told me that yes, I was in labour, so we called my boyfriends best friend to pick us up, he came about an hour later and when I got to the hospital they sent me home because I was only 2 cm dilated... so 3 days later I had my son With my second, I was having a bath when I went into labour. I had nothing ready so I got out of the bath, went into the room and started packing. My boyfriend asked me what I was doing, and I simply said "Packing" He asked me for what and I said "The hospital" He jumped up off the bed and told me to lay down and he started packing... so after that was done, we went out into the hallway and realized we had no money to get to the hospital, and no phone to call an ambulance. Luckily, my boyfriends mom lived down the hall, and just happened to be leaving her room when we came out, so her boyfriend lent us the money for a cab. An hour later I was at the hospital giving birth to my second son, and the doctor told me to stop pushing, because the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck, but she quickly unwrapped it, and my son was born happy and healthy My third, I was at home alone, at about 4am I had started feeling small contractions, but thought it was just Braxton Hicks. So my boyfriend went to work at 5:30am like he always does, and at around 6:30 I started feeling the contractions harder and closer together, so I went upstairs to my landlords house and no one was home. I didn't have a phone at the time, so I used their phone and called my boyfriends coworker. He answered and I told him I was in labour and he said "Ok, do you want to talk to Corey?" so I did. I asked my boyfriend what I should do and he told me to call an ambulance. So I did.. by the time the ambulance got there I felt like I couldn't hold her in anymore... but I made it to the hospital, feeling like I was going to pop every bump we hit, including the little bump going into the elevator, and when the nurses bumped the stretcher into the door... when I finally got into the room, there was no holding her back, there were no doctors available right when I got there, they had paged one to come, but she wasn't there yet, so the head nurse ended up having to come in and I was finally able to have my daughter... I had her just as the doctor was getting into the room

It was actually while I was pregnant, but it has nothing to do with my pregnancy. We got into a pretty bad car accident when I was 5 months pregnant. I was so thankful that nothing happened to my baby boy.
